I was craving guiso de puerco and this was one of the few places that popped up on imaps. It was a little on the salty side so that was disappointing. Although very few places get it right, it's always a hit or miss with this dish at any restaurant. Tortillas were handmade they give you a sampler tortilla with your chips and salsa. Service was good and fast! I was seated right away and served my food within 5 minutes of ordering. Food was hot and beer was cold! This is the second time in a while that I've gone and honestly I can say for sure this is the very last time: I will ever come here again. I'm not sure if through out the years they got new owners or management but Cuquitas Restaurant is definitely not the same anymore. Their quality in food has gone down. Their menu is a lot smaller, no desserts included in their menu. I ordered pollo al carbon but they looked so plain, and not al carbon. They looked like pollo al vapor. The cuquitas, I remember had way better quality food. Side note: I have gone to a different Cuquitas, and i can say all of them have changed. Cuquita's is a place that I had passed by for so long and always wanted to try. I've been there twice now and feel like I know enough to review them. I usually judge a good Mexican restaurant by their rice and beans, the rice and beans are sub-par here however I gave it a 4 star review because everything else is so good. The first time I ordered a chicken quesadilla and a bowl of menudo. Both were delicious. The 2nd time I ordered flautas, also delicious. The chips and salsa are good and their waitresses are nice. The place gets packed so that's a good sign and they are very authentic! Overall I highly recommend this place if you're looking for some good Mexican food. read more

Authentic, maybe. Good? Not THAT good. I don't get the fascination with Cuquita's. I feel like their ability to season things is average at best. My SO does like the posole, and the presentation with the thinly shredded cabbage and white onions on the side is nice. Flavor of the posole was OK to me. I ordered a chile relleno and it was freshly fried which is important, but aside from that not too much flavor in the ground beef filling, and nothing special as far as the ingredients go to set it apart. Plus quite greasy as if it was not properly drained after frying. Rice and beans did taste home-made, but not in a flavorful way - some of the hispanic homemade rice and beans I have had in the past was equally tasteless. Not like delicious beans I have had in Mexico City that actually had, you guessed it, FLAVOR! Finally, their two salsas were watery and lacked much taste at all. Overall, I almost added a star because our service was friendly and efficient and maybe there are some gems on the menu and I just ordered wrong. Have not tried their breakfasts - maybe that is what I'm missing. However, to me the food is 2 stars, and I am in no hurry to ever go back. read more

I had bad service and couldn't order 1 taco had to order 2 but I did and they said had to be the same taco so they wanted me to order 3 I asked for the manager and she said it's policy but it's not on the menu or anywhere she just said that. This place reminds me of Mexico! The moment you get there they give you fresh tortillas to start with. The tortillas are literally off the comal! It's so good with butter. What a great find! This isn't the fanciest of places, but it serves some of the most authentic Mexican food I've had in the metroplex. My co-worker initially introduced me to this place, and within a couple of days, I found myself coming back for more. From what I read online, I knew that the pozole was going to be a must-order. However, after being seated and scanning the menu, I was getting more hungry and settled on trying the pollo en mole. While you wait for food, fresh tortillas are brought out and served with butter. Even if you normally order flour, it is absolutely essential that you get the corn tortillas. These are not tortillas taken out of a bag and thrown on the flat top for a few seconds. These are freshly made in house tortillas and are oh so good. If you want an authentic experience, smear some butter on them, dab a little bit of salt and enjoy. When the food arrived, I knew I was in for something good. The mole was not too sweet and very well balanced. I took some of those corn tortillas that were still left, and just scooped up all of that goodness. Upon my next visit, I ordered what I originally set out to get, and tried their pozole. When it got to the table, it was served in a very large bowl, with cabbage, lime, and onions to garnish. After putting it away very quickly, I now understood why every other table had a bowl of pozole on it. Easily in my top 3 pozoles all time. Good service, great food, and da bomb tortillas.
