OUTSTANDING customer service & EVEN BETTER FOOD. I am gluten free and lactose intolerant, so majority of the time I cook for myself and avoid local restaurants because I always have to ask so many questions. I can't cook while traveling... I didn't get her name but a woman here was sooo helpful with my order. She was happy to answer all my questions, explained how the mains & sides were prepared and EXACTLY what ingredients are used. I ordered Cilantro Chicken with a side of green beans, fried rice and fajita vegetables. Chef's kiss. Chicken is moist inside with a delicious smokey grilled outside. The green beans are fresh & garlicky. This food is SO flavorful, perfectly seasoned, delicious and fits into my health goals. It sat well in my stomach. I will be back again, and suggest you try it.

Here just for the night and I remembered that the last time I was here it was sooo good. And today didn't disappoint me!!!! My chicken was soooo tender and juicy, the cilantro rice was fresh and the beans were good too. Everything was really good!! I wished my mango juice was a little colder but it was delicious as well. Anytime I'm close by here for the evening, I'm coming here hands down!!!!!!

Really good chicken and sides for a decent price! Stopped in this afternoon to grab dinner for tonight. First time here and the gentleman behind the counter was nice and helpful when I asked which rice to get. We ordered the following: The 1/2 chicken meal with two sides plus we ordered an extra side. First off the chicken nice and juicy. There was plenty of chicken for the two of us. We ordered the fried rice, the pinto beans and plantains, and all were delicious, Generous servings of all the sides. We tried both their green sauce which is the hot sauce and the white sauce. I can't handle heat but my husband said the green sauce was good and flavorful. The white sauce had a little kick but also good flavor. There is plenty of seating inside and I do think everyone orders at the counter and walks through the line but we were the only ones there, so I'm not positive. Great tasting food and parking is easy in the lot.

The food is always soooo good! The chicken cilantro with fried yuca and green rice is my go-to and never disappoints. I ask for extra sauces too. My only gripe is that my order has never been remotely ready when I have placed orders in advance. Each time I have had to wait 15-20 minutes after I arrive at the expected time. I see other people pick up their orders just fine so maybe it's specific to the chicken cilantro?

Visiting Richmond, heard great things about this spot, so you know I had to give it a try. First glance it reminds me of a certain restaurant chain in MD called "Sardis". I love the fact they have unique things I don't see often in Peruvian cuisine such as the "Green Rice" & Anticucho De Corazon (my first time having both of these and the flavor profit was delightful!) The prices and quantity of food was modest. The quality was superb! The Peruvian flavor was kickin up spice. The wait time wasn't long and you can call your order in if you wanted to jus pick and go. All in all very nice restaurant, nice experience, & most importantly I will be back lol .

I ordered the special Brochetas (chicken kabobs) with plantains and rice & beans. $12.50. Spouse got the steak quesadilla $10.00 with fried rice and black beans $3.00. The steak quesadilla tasted great. Brochette de pollo. The food was delicious. I loved every bite of my chicken. It was very tender and well seasoned. I don't need the sauce that comes with it. But I did use some simply because I had it. I did mix the sauce into the fried rice and black beans. I as usual had left overs. But I had to have some of my fried bananas. They are so good, sweet and perfect. I consider them dessert. My favorite. It is fun to watch the rotisserie with all the chickens turning. This is self serving. You wait on line to order. When ready they do bring the food out to you

Passing through a found this awesome Peruvian restaurant in a strip mall. The outside looked a bit sketchy but the food makes up for the scare. When you walk in you can smell the deliciousness of the food and it made me stay. There is a lot of food to mull over and since I'm about the chicken, I choose the half bird, dark meat. The two sides were a bit of confusion since other places call fried plantain, tostones, and these fried plantains are what I would call, Maduros, sweet plantains. Either way, they were great, nice and warm and not too sweet. The other side was the rice and beans, which came with the chicken fried rice and black beans which were also great. To top it off I had the tress leches dessert and it was wet and creamy, just a great dessert. Although this could have gotten a 5 star, it lacked a good fountain drink option and there were no place to get extra napkins and utensils. It could be the location but it was well worth the price. Also they do offer a military discount, and I salute them for that.

After a long day this was definitely a great fill up and a really lovely lunch. I believe it's still a popular business in its location so I hope the community continues to supports!

The building is unassuming but the food was EXCELLENT!! I order the half chicken with green beans, maduros, green rice along with a house salad. The service was quick. Everything was delicious!! The chicken was well seasoned and juicy, even though I didn't need them, the sauces were the perfect accompaniment. The sides were great, I loved the rice. I couldn't recommend it enough. Worth every penny!

Seriously good food! Seriously...I don't take time write it unless I mean it! This place knows "flavor town" like no other. It's close to the airport and White Oak Village. I have ordered the Cilantro chicken and the Pollo Ever. Family ordered lamb chops (he has gone back 3 times now just for the lamb chops). Order a side of Pico, and the yellow sauce was our favorite. I'm going to order the Pollo Ever again with double green beans again. It's one of my new favorite places. read more

THIS PLACE IS AWESOME. I've been here about 5-6 times since moving to the area and everything has been great so far. Quick service and the food always seems fresh. My go to meal is either the 1/4 chicken, or sometimes 1/2 chicken, plate. Come with two sides. I usually get the green beans for both, but the rice is awesome and the roasted potatoes have become my favorite side side item since I tried them on my last visit. Staff is very quick and attentive. Great 'Bang for your Buck' spot. read more

I am picky about my Peruvian chicken! I believe Sardis is the GOAT but this is a good contender. Chicken was moist and also the sauce were succulent. Only complaint but not really a compliant is that I miss my roasted Brussels sprouts! Side that I had were beans and rice, plantains, and green beans. Everything tasted fresh. I will be back to enjoy so more whenever I'm in the vicinity read more

We had pre-ordered a large meal for 8 people with a scheduled pick up time. On arrival to the Laburnum location we realized we had made a mistake and sent the order to another store. I was fully expecting to jump back in the car, but without my even asking the manager stepped in, completed the order at their location, made sure the other store was aware and had our meal ready in record time. I travel all over the country on business and everywhere I go, I look for Peruvian restaurants because I'm a sucker for the rotisserie chicken (Pollo a la brasa) and fried rice. I've had Peruvian food from Newark to Baltimore to Los Angeles and everywhere in between. This is the BEST Peruvian chicken I have ever had. This is a fast casual place where you order at the counter. You can see the chicken cooking and the side items are in a steam table. I like these places because I can get fried rice as a side instead of paying $12-$14 for a whole order of it. I had a quarter white chicken, fried rice covered in pinto beans (trust me, it's good) and fried plantains (maduros). They have both yellow and green sauce. Their yellow sauce is a little hotter than what I've had before but it's delicious. The chicken was outstanding. Sometimes rotisserie chicken can be dry but this was very moist and seasoned well. The skin was delicious as well. The plantains were really brown and the edges were caramelized...just like I like them. They also have most of the other standard Peruvian dishes such as Lomo Saltado and empanadas which looked good. I love the chicken so much I'll probably never order anything else. You can bet I'll be stopping here EVERY time I'm in Richmond. read more

I had the cilantro chicken and when I watched the cook pull it out of the marinade and chuck it on the grill, I knew it was going to be good. i also had the red potatoes and fried rice and both were great. The portion was very large and enough for two. They did not disappoint and I look forward to eating here again. read more

This is my 3rd time eating here and won't be my last. The food is moist, well seasoned and comes to you piping hot. I can't remember what I order was called I just know it was chicken thighs, green rice and green beans. The thighs were cooked to perfection! None of that dry "I'm choking" chicken over there! Reasonably priced for the portion. About 13$. I was feeling daring and decided to try the tres leches cake.. it was ok. Very moist but at the same time the cake had some weird gritty pieces. Not sure if that's how tres leches cake normally tastes but ‍ I demolished the chicken. Only thing left was bones and gristle. read more

I came here with my family for dinner and everything that they ordered got high reviews. I don't eat meat so I got a large red beans & rice, and a side of fried plantains. The owners were very friendly and helpful with my parents who hadn't tried Peruvian chicken before. They gave him several sauces to try out and stopped by the table to see how we were doing. The restaurant inside is very clean and well kept. Most of my family bought the chicken meals and commented on how moist the chicken was. All food was finished andnthe only thing we took home was a Tres Leche cake slice that the owners gave to my sister because it was her birthday. I don't get too take a picture but the food was AMAZING! Came into town to see a friend, I always YELP it up, to see what's up. I saw Canastas and it looked very tasty. It was decided upon and we stopped by. Excellent customer service, being 1st timers, we sat there looking at the menu overwhelmed but decided upon bowls and a whole chicken dinner. Very fresh, filing tasty portions. Definitely will be back when I'm in town. The customer service was excellent and they were very friendly and patient with us. I moved from Northern VA where there is a Peruvian Chicken place on every corner and was so disappointed at how few are in Richmond. A year and a half after living here I stumbled on Canastas and am SO HAPPY I DID. Its delicious. Service is great whether you speak Spanish or not. Food is awesome. And they are very generous with their servings. If you have not been here yet, definitely go! read more

We went here for lunch and it was great. We really didn't know what to order and the guy was very helpful. I got the pollo ever, my girlfriend got the gyro. The gyro was good bit the pollo ever was great. It's basically like chicken fiesta but maybe better. I will definitely be back. read more

Many places in town are closed because they don't have enough personnel to keep the restaurants open. This appears to be family run, and have an investment in making it successful. You can dine in or take out, and there was a steady stream of customers. The food--we did samplers (chicken, shrimp, beef) --was delicious. Our sides were plantains, green beans, and cilantro rice. Very flavorful cuisine. We plan on returning next week when we fly out of Richmond. A gem. read more

Delicious food to go! Every dish was wonderfully seasoned. Had a sumptuous whole chicken and moist, delicious lamb chops with perfectly caramelized plantains, yummy green beans, zucchini, and squash. (The potatoes were tasty but needed more heat, were lukewarm.) No dryness in the meats at all, all fresh vegetables. read more

Came to this place for the grand opening and it was great! I got the Pollo Saltado, which is grilled pieces of chicken sautéed with peppers, onions served over French fries with a side of rice. It was delicious !! My family also got a whole order of their Canastas Chicken and it was nice and juicy and full of flavor. As well as some sides which included arroz Chaufa (rice) and Yuca. I will definitely be coming back to try out other items on their menu if I'm in the area again ! read more

I swear I already did a review of this amazing place but it seems it's not appearing. Canastas Chicken is so much more than just chicken - they really should consider changing their name. This Peruvian fare is incredible! I had the skewered chicken thighs with Peruvian spices - juicy and so flavorful. My dad had the Jalea. I didnt taste the fish, as I'm not a fan of seafood, but the Yucca that came with it? Amazing! There are two sauces served with most everything. One is just the right amount of heat with flavor and the other is herby and savory. My green rice was a littlenon the dry side so I just put more of the two sauces on it. We split an empanadas - next time I'm getting my own. OMGOODNESS!!! Definitely stop in. It's not a glamorous spot but it's good, authentic food served by super nice people! read more

Absolutely delicious! Everything we ordered was packed with authentic Peruvian flavor. The empanadas were perfectly crisp and flavorful, and the Lomo Saltado was tender, savory, and just the right amount of saucy. I've been coming here since they've been open with friends and family. With my mother being from Peru I can say I'm beyond amazed and grateful for such great food of my culture here in Virginia. The service is always a delight even when busy they'll never just brush you off and always make sure you're taken care of. I would love to say more but only you can come and try it your self. Horrible! I went there on the advise of a very good, Peruvian, friend who knows my love for ceviche. They don't know how to make ceviche.
