Chicken Cilantro Specialty with fried yuca and mixed vegetables

My kids are always searching for new restaurants in the area. They told me about Canastas Chicken so I decided to try it for myself. I ordered the chicken cilantro with fried yuca and mixed vegetables. The chicken was tasty and the crispy fried yuca was good with ketchup. There was a good mix of roasted broccoli, carrots and squash. The food is prepared after you order so it too a while before they delivered the meal to my table. The restaurant is clean and fairly new in the area. The meal is plenty for two people. I had to box up 1/2 of it and bring it home for a later meal. I want to go back sometime and try something different. Their app is new too. 500 points just to join up. Added a fountain drink too.

#1 Combo: Half chicken with three sides and two cans of soda

When I walked into this very unpretentious place and heard almost everyone (customers and staff) speaking Spanish, I had every confidence that I was going to enjoy the food. I did an online order 20 minutes earlier but my order was not ready. In fact, the lady at the counter wasn't even aware it was placed. She went to check the computer and yep, it was there. She said it'll be ready in two minutes. It actually took another 10 minutes. I'm not sure why. I was the only person standing at the counter. I really want to give this place 3.5 stars because the portion and taste of the food was more than I ever expected. I got the Combo #1 which was half a chicken with three sides and two cans of soda for $17. This was definitely enough for two people. I'm so glad I have leftovers for another meal. I loved the sauces. I'm going to call them the green sauce and the yellow sauce. The green has a little bit of kick but not too hot. I actually liked dipping the fried yucca in that sauce. The yellow sauce was not spicy and was great on the chicken. I absolutely loved the green beans. I don't know how they prepared it but it tasted like it came from the grill. It was sauteed with onions and had such a wonderful flavor. I don't know why I was thinking canned green beans because these were not. I have a preference for my local rotisserie chicken place's fried yucca so I didn't think these were up to par. They lost one star because the take out containers were styrofoam. I hope they switch to compostable or recycleable containers.

Unimposing little restaurant tucked away in an odd shopping center.  I have tried many locations of this local chain and they each have thier own personality. Nothing fancy -just delicious food at a great price. The service is excellent and the Peruvian flavors are definitely present. El pollo a la brasa (rotisserie chicken) is an excellent option along with many sides to choose from. I got the 1/2 rotisserie chicken with rice and house salad because im really addicted to it haha it comes out quick and it is always fresh. The flavor is always really good and they give a big portion. Rice was definitely cooked right. I also got the chicha morada which it had the perfect sweetness and it was delicious!! The service was exceptional, the employees went above and beyond and were very attentive, gracious

Excited that our kiddo is open to trying new food locales. Canasta delivered a tasty lunch, although we wish they didn't serve everything on disposable plates with disposable utensils, etc. It feels like a fast food place when you walk in, but the prices are higher than what I would pay for fast food. The flavor is better than fast food. That's for sure! I had Chicken Cilantro with green rice and plantains. Yummo! And I enjoyed each of the sauces. Hubster had a Canasta bowl with chicken (think Chipotle, but different twist on add-ins). And kiddo went with 1/4 chicken with fried rice and potatoes. Looking forward to diving into our leftovers, since the portions were sizable.

This was my first time here, It was pretty good. They weren't busy as far as getting a table but we stood at the counter for a little long without anyone acknowledging is as they were making other orders. I ordered 2 side orders, one was rice and beans and the other was plantains. They were $550 for large and $3.50 for small. They pack it tight in the container which is good because they are not cheap so getting large portions makes that easier to accept. I waited a good 15 mins for the food and went home to eat it, it was good, I liked everything. My daughter got chicken and rice and hers was good too. It was a great first experience but I do feel like almost $35 for one entree and 2 sides is alot. That's really my only complaint plaint. Food was good. Service was just okay.

You know you are in an authentic restaurant when all staffs speak Spanish. The menu is very comprehensive for a small shop. There are tons of variations from roasted chickens, pork chops and ceviche. All of them are delicious. I highly recommend to give this place a try.

Half chicken with two sides! Tasty and moist chicken.

Think Chicken Fiesta's cousin! A friend recommended this place and I said sure ! I was not disappointed. This is a Peruvian chicken food service. You walk up-to the line, place an order, and wait at a table in the dining room. Indoor seating is available, appropriate for casual, family, or groups. This is not a fancy restaurant BTW if that's what you're seeking. The meats are freshly cooked so it may take a brief moment for your meal and if there is a long line it may take a smudge longer. Food is not greasy but light and cooked well. The taste was all there, it looks very simple but it does the job. This location is in the Walmart shopping center among the strip of other stores. Give this a go, you nay be surprised ! Prices range from $-$$ depending on what you are craving.

I've had Canastas Chicken from their East End location but today was my first time trying out the Glen Allen location. I ordered my takeout at the restaurant and received my food within 10-15 minutes. The staff were friendly and service was great - one of them gave me extra sauce without charging me! People were their wearing face masks properly and the tables looked clean. My go-to order is always their chicken with plantains as one of my side. For my second side, I tried out their cilantro rice for the first time today, which was a little bland by itself but definitely yummier when mixed with the cilantro green sauce. While I liked their chicken - well seasoned and relatively juicy - the green and yellow sauces give it the extra flavor boost!!! To me, the green one is cilantro/jalapeno based while the yellow one is mayo/sour cream based? They also make their empanadas on the spot/after you order. Although I had to wait an extra 5 minutes, it was worth the freshly fried empanadas that were crispy and filled with gooey cheese integrated with seasoned chicken/onions! The quality of the food seemed to be really consistent between to the two locations so I'm excited to come back~

Half white chicken with green beans and potatoes. Massive portion!

The first time I came across them was during the Saturday morning Downtown Charlottesville City Market (pre-covid). I've also encountered them at Charlottesville Festival of Cultures (pre-covid) and most recently at the Autumn Nights Thursday Night Market (which ended in October *SAD*).  We ordered the pulled pork sandwich, lomo saltado and tried a few empanadas (the chicken empanada & the beef, egg & olive empanada. Amidst everything eaten, the pulled pork sandwich truly stole the show! The sandwich included a heap of Wandering River Farm pork shoulder with pickled red onions and jalapenos on a light, fluffy bun. The meat wasn't thinly pulled like I'be seen in many American based pulled pork sandwiches, but more broken into small, juicy tenderized bite size morsels, lathered in an amazing creamy spicy sauce and then piled on top of the buns - overflowing onto the platter with a side of fried sweet potatoes. The fried sweet potatoes were also pretty good - they kept their shape and were actually fried in thin circular slices. Unfortunately, by the time we demolished the pulled pork sandwiches, they had lost some of their fresh crunch and thus were a bit softer than expected, but nonetheless the fried sweet potatoes were a good side dish to the sandwich! The lomo saltado was stir fried beef tenderloin with onions and tomatoes, served with a side of papas fritas (hand cut potato fries) and white rice. This dish was prepared on the spot - cooked over an open stove and thus the flavors were super fresh and worth the wait~ The empanadas had thicker, doughier shells (which I really appreciated) and were filled to the brim with meat. Not super spicy but the sauces that came with them really gave the flavor an extra

There was a 10 minute wait on the pork chops. As I waited for my food, more people came in. So that was a good sign to me. Once we arrived home and opened up the containers, the aroma from the chicken hit us in the face. The pork chops had that chargrill flavor we like and it was tender to eat. The chicken was not dry or tough. The sides are decent portions and are bursting with flavor as well. Hands down this will be my go to restaurant for that grill flavor I love so much. I will be trying the lamb chops and shrimp on my next visit.
