Charcoal grill for the chicken
Lou C.

Friend of mine introduced Fire & Chicken Peruvian Restaurant because it smells good from outside. No kidding, I can smell it stronger as we walked in. I believe this restaurant has been here for a while. I couldn't remember what the employee said. There are 2 sitting areas, hot and toasty. Hot area was 91 degrees and Toasty area was 78 degrees with blazing afternoon sun. Either area was just hot. We ordered Chicharron Plater and Dark Chicken plates. Looking at the receipt, there was a CC Fee. Because they charge 4.3% for credit card fee. Ashland's sales tax for restaurant is 12%. I calculated it as I paid tax on the credit card fee. If I drove further out to Richmond, it's only 10% for restaurants. Grrr... Food was mediocre. Not coming back.

This is one of those occasions where I deliberate between 4 and 5 stars. No one thing wowed me but I did appreciate the fast service. Very solid food with reasonable prices. Given the long line outside, it seems that others agreed with me. Despite that line, I was wowed how fast my food came out (it probably heled I ordered their staples). I ordered the 1/2 chicken with two sides; yuca and plantains (PS - I love that you have two side options). Everything was good. The location is your typical fast-food joint experience. Nothing fancy...but you come here to be fed, not worry about the decor.

Stopped here on our way to Richmond and loved the food!! SO delicious! We had tacos, a salad, a bowl. The serving size is so generous and I would easily come back here again. Knocked off a star because they forgot to give us part of our order. Thankfully I checked before we left (pick up order) and had to go back in to ask.

LOVED this place. I never had peruvian chicken before, but I will definitely be coming back here…read more We ordered a family deal with 2 chickens and sides + soda. The chicken itself was not dry, it was very good texture and flavor. The sauces that come with it were also all very tasty. (There was a spicy red, a mild green, and a yellow) The green and red were probably my favorite. First time having Yuca Fries, they went well with the sauce! The string beans and steamed veggies were lowkey also really good and went well with the chicken, rice, and black beans. There was also the shrimp ceviche which was definitely different than what I normally get went well, when I wrapped all the stuff in a lettuce leaf(not sure if that's what you're supposed to do). It had shrimp, some kind of sweet potato(which was good!), and Peruvian corn which was super cool. Then there was the Bistec a lo Pobre, which had Carne Asada, with fries and rice and other stuff. Also very good. Then the plantains which were all very good, definitely added a nice sweet addition to the meal. To top it all off, there was a cookie I was not sure the name of but it was good LOL. Will definitely be coming back here to try more stuff. I will say, I think knowing spanish helps a lot if you come here

I found that strange given that they serve Peruvian food, which is not your every day offering. Anyhoo, the ambiance is boring and uninspired. The menu is a mix of Peruvian (I guess?), Mexican, and Middle Eastern. Some of the unexpected menu items are ceviche, beef heart, and gizzards or chicken livers? I forget but something like that. They also have yucca and plantain. I wanted Peruvian so I went with their 1/4 chicken, green rice with black beans, and mixed vegetables. The mixed vegetables were from a can. (Yuck) The green rice was zesty and novel. The chicken was well seasoned and really juicy. Portion sizes were plentiful. You won't leave hungry.

The sweet potatoes it came with were really cold like it just defrosted and on the menu it said it comes with an egg and it did not. My wife is a fan of Peruvian food so we decided to give it a shot. I ended up ordering Mixto Ceviche while my wife went for the 1/2 Peruvian Chicken. The Peruvian Chicken is definitely the bargain meal but we planned to share our dishes. The appetizer (it looks like unpopped popcorn) is addictive; I kept nibbling on a few every minute. When the food arrived we were a bit disappointed in the temperature of my wife's chicken (barely warm); the flavors were fantastic but we expected it to be warmer. They also gave her plantains (though she did not order them) and they were fantastic. My Mixto Ceviche was very good but too spicy for my wife; as a result I ate it all. This is a full plate of food and I was stuffed. I felt the lime and spice combination was bit overwhelming and I can't say I loved my food. Maybe I don't like Peruvian food? If I came back (no plans to do that) I would get the Peruvian Chicken with plantains and another side.

The name of this market has been changed to: Cielito Lindo, which is a popular Spanish song and…read moreroughly translated means "Lovely Sweet One" although "cielo" means heaven and "lindo" means pretty - combined this phrase is typically a term of endearment. This tidy little Latino market carries many Hispanic, Mexican and South American products. Being of Cuban descent, I frequently head to this site for Goya products, including rice, black beans, plantains, Adobo spices, coffee, Maria cookies, fresh fruits and veggies, tomato items, empanada shells and my "never be without" Mojo Criollo Goya marinade. This marinade truly is the spice of life and I use it in many of my recipes! You will also find baked goods, household items, and sundries at this store. There's a deli/butcher in the back and a frozen food section. There's also a small restaurant and pupuseria serving Latin fare, from Cuban sandwiches to tacos to tostones to tamales to yucca to soups/sides and more. They serve Cuban coffee, horchata, Latin sodas, and other drinks and some tempting desserts, like flan and tres leches cake. For an inexpensive, quick bite in a casual, no nonsense eatery with lots of festive atmosphere, you've gotta try Cielito Lindo, it really is "a slice of heaven". And not to worry if you don't speak Spanish, some of the folks there speak English. ¡Provecho!
