Ok first of all I must admit I just returned from Hawaii less than a week ago so real Hawaiian plate lunches are still fresh in my mind. My friend wanted to go so I said k-den let's go! With that said, the ribs (galbi) were decent but really cut weird; so much so that one could get tiny fragments of bone. The katsu was ok but a bit on the dry side; if I just hadn't had been in Hawaii I probably would have scored it higher. The fried rice wasn't really what I expected (see pic) it just was rice with some soy seasoning. Not authentic at all. The Mac salad was very familiar and tasty. The service was a bit slow but acceptable and the place was clean. The decor is typical of a Hawaiian themed place outside of Hawaii- a bit tacky but done tactfully. I would go there again and probably score it much better especially if I haven't had Hawaiian food in a while. They do have Hawaiian sun drinks so I guess that is a big plus. What a surprise in the area! We came based on the reviews and enjoyed the meal! The restaurant is in a strip besides Domoishi with a general parking lot for all the businesses in that area. The restaurant is quaint, colorful, and made up of a few tables / booth seating. You order at a kiosk but a worker does manage the front area as well. I got the Signature Hawaii BBQ Mix and I loved it! Protein, rice, and Mac salad. The meat was tender, flavored well, and appropriate for its cost. I also got the beef dumplings and they were very tasty, moist, and not dried out! A casual, clean, vibrant environment respective to a Hawaiian feel. The rice was cooked perfect the macaroni salad was tasty and also the salad , but a little disappointed on the short ribs. They we're more like tiny riblets, and not much meat mostly fat. It was tasty, but not worth the extra cost. Now the cool thing is it's connected to another restaurant where you can order your bubble tea drinks. Just go to the back and follow the path. This includes chicken, beef and short ribs with some rice and mac salad. All the meats were incredibly delicious! The meats were full of flavor and incredibly tender. The mac salad tasted really good as well! And as for the portions, the plate meals are huge and so fulfilling. The Service: Service was great! Staff at the front were friendly. You can order with them or at the tablet they have. Food comes out in a timely manner as well. The Atmosphere: Nice and open space. Clean, with plenty of seating to go around for small or big groups. Probably one of the best things is when you order on the iPads there are pictures of everything. The menu is easy to navigate but the pictures are very helpful in looking at the dish. The food has a Hawaiian theme which means that there is a sweet flavor to it. Everything I had was absolutely delicious and I also loved the pasta salad. I am very picky with the macaroni pasta salad but theirs was great. The chicken and beef were both cooked perfectly. The cabbage was a nice added side with good flavor especially from the meats on top of it. The spring rolls were also delicious. I was also looking at other peoples food and I was highly impressed with every plate I saw. If you leave hungry you did something wrong because these servings are very filling as well. My family has frequented this spot almost weekly since it opened because the food is so good, but they've recently made changes to the entrees like replacing their sautéed cabbage with a stringy raw cabbage and offering a new bento box style with much smaller portions, but for the same price. This review is coming from a local boy from Hawaii. My order: Hawaii Short Rib & Katsu w/ fried rice Highs: Food was tasty and well-seasoned Even though the fried rice wasn't what I expected, it still tasted good and you don't get charged extra for it. The place was clean and cute, and the service was good. Lows: I was expecting more food for $18. The typical plate lunch experience is two scoops rice, one scoop mac salad, and your entree. The pictures on the wall in their restaurant and in their menu even show that. You get one scoop of mac salad, and one scoop of rice. The katsu sauce was decent, but I would prefer the more Japanese style katsu sauce. The short ribs were awesome but also a let down. The flavor was on point so kudos to the marinade and cook. The let down was that it was served very oddly. Normally with a three bone short rib, it's either served with all three bones connected, or cut into individual bones. Either of those two ways is perfectly fine. However, for whatever reason, it appears the three rib short rib was cut into 5 or more pieces. And not just the meat, but the bones were sliced clean through as well. So what you end up with is bone fragments that range from the size of your thumbnail to your pinky nail. It was weird, and to be honest, a little dangerous. When I took my first bite I was lucky enough to not chomp down on a small piece of bone that I didn't see. After that, I had to carefully eat each piece of meat as sometimes it was difficult to discern where the bones were. My wife was laughing at me because at the end of my meal I had a small pile of bones on my plate and she asked me if that was how it was supposed to be. LOL! To the owners I have a couple of suggestions: Reduce the cabbage garnish and put another scoop of rice in there. Mac salad, you have a scoop in there, but add a little more. Short ribs, don't cut the bones like that, it's ridiculous and dangerous. If that's a cost saving measure, I suggest you stop. For $18, I feel you can give two, three-bone short ribs, and cut it into 6 pieces. I appreciate your katsu being chicken breast. It was excellent. I noticed it was pounded out and flattened and then also cut into really thin strips to make it seem like I was getting more pieces. I would suggest you stop that also. Here's my bottom line, if I'm back home in HI and I spend $18 on a plate lunch, I know I'm going to get the same level if not better quality of food than your restaurant, AND more of it. Your flavors are there for sure, I'm just asking you to serve it differently. Anyway, regardless of my comments above, again, the food was tasty and I'll be going back for sure. I just won't order the short ribs. When I sample another plate lunch there, I'll come back and change my review if it's better. read more

Honestly everything I've had here has been really good, the seasonings are delicious, I also suggest their wings, they have a large variety of flavors to choose from. The reviews I've heard about Alohahola have been really good, so I was so stoked to be able to come here for lunch. We ordered at the touch screen and each meal item gives you plenty of customization options. We ended up getting beef BBQ plates and spam crispy musubi. Everything came out really quickly and they had a station set up so you could get any condiments or utensils you needed. The staff was super friendly even though it was right at open and the restaurant was pretty full. The food was so delicious! It was really fresh and falling off the bones. There was so much, we definitely had leftovers and the leftovers heated really well. I've told all of my friends about this place and we'll definitely be back. If you haven't been, you must go. When I went Feb. 23, 2024 the food was not HOT it was like it was prepared and kept under a warmer. The children Katsu was not crispy like when it's cooked fresh. It was just warm. The rice was not hot either. I don't understand why warm is ok but when your food comes out hot it just feels like it's fresh. Felt like it was microwaved warm. The musubi was good but at $4.00 a piece I would not buy it again but had to try it. My husband and I stopped in this evening after visiting my grandma at the hospital. We were looking for yummy food close by and saw that they closed in an hour. They have self order kiosks and where you can order with a person if you need some help. They have a bunch of different options to try.
