Vegetable lo mein with added white meat chicken
    Zena K.

I'm so glad I took a chance and tried this place. It's been half a mile from my house for as long as I can remember but I've always been so scared to try something new. I usually go to Chen's for lo mein as I've tried other places and it's never been as good. I'm stating for the record, Hunan Cafe's lo mein is delicious! They use the thick lo mein noodles, not like spaghetti noodles I've received from other places. The veggies were perfectly crunchy and fresh. The veggie spring rolls were really really greasy but it tasted good!

General Tso's Chicken, fried rice, and egg roll. Lunch special

The food was great! The customer service was good as well. The only thing I'd have to complain about is the plates. They weren't too bad, but you could still feel the immense heat from the bottom of them. BUT everything was better than expected. The place isn't much to look at, but the food and nice service makes up for it. I will definitely be coming again.

Best dumplings ever! General Tso shrimp for the win

I stopped in here one afternoon for lunch after getting my toes done next door. I love the shopping center they are located in! It was quiet no one was in there I can tell they get a lot of delivery orders. They were nice quiet and clean! My food came quick and it was delicious! It's hard to find good general tso shrimp and good fried dumplings now a days I definitely would recommend them to anyone looking for decent Chinese food.

I've been picky about my Chinese spot selections and the only two I felt were good was Red House and The Eatery..however, I was wrong. Chose this place as a result of a "what do you want to eat, no what do you want to eat ?" Heated discussion. I am glad we did. The place is in the staples mill shopping center beside Food Lion. It is small and easy to miss so be on the lookout. Coming inside, it is a really cute maybe 12 table set up with booths and normal tables. It isn't fancy. Just your imagined Chinese spot but I must say, their restaurant environment is actually pretty decent. Anyways, the lady at the front was SUPER sweet and customer service oriented. We ordered wings w/shrimp fried rice , hunan beef, and sesame chicken combination. I was thoroughly surprised at the portion of the food. I was expecting it to be small unworthy containers but they weren't! Okay, okay, don't get me wrong it was Chinese so it wasn't fancy restaurant but not crappy which made me happy. They also have a buffet lunch from open to 2pm for 7.25$. The bar looks small but I wouldn't mind going. Check out the food and pics. It's a safe Chinese spot from my opinion!

At first, I wasn't completely sold after looking at the menu as I didn't immediately see anything I wanted to eat as most tiki bars we have been to are more on the dive bar side so regular bar foods. So, the plan was to grab a couple drinks and find dinner somewhere else nearby. I am so glad my fiancé talked me into staying because this place absolutely knocked me off my feet. -I highly recommend the Nuclear Hawaiian and the Hello Kitty!!!! When we mentioned we weren't sure about the food, the bartenders jumped right in with recommendations and suggested the calamari and crab rangoon and they were spot on! When the food arrived, everything was perfectly cooked. The calamari was tender with a great texture, and the crab rangoon was crisp with amazing flavor. I went from I am not hungry to I could eat multiple plates of the same thing. We ended up staying for hours watching college football and mingling with some of the regulars. The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly and we genuinely had such fun conversation with people around us. We even heard from several folks that this place really comes alive during karaoke nights. At one point an older heavyset lady who we later found out was one of the cooks came out to chat with people. She was checking in to make sure everyone liked their food and catching up with the regulars like family. it really showed how much the staff cares about the people that walk through the door. MPM Tiki Bar feels like a true local gem with great drinks, delicious food, and a staff that makes you feel welcome from the moment you sit down. I honestly wish I lived closer because I would be here multiple times a week. if your anywhere near this restaurant, dont skip this spot trust me!

Everything sounded good and everything I tried had excellent flavors. Prices are about what you'd expect. Tons of variety in sushi alone, but the menu is so huge that it can definitely be overwhelming. I'd recommend choosing one section and committing to choose from within it because it's very overwhelming otherwise. It's quite small inside, so you'll be very close to the table next to you. It's definitely not the place if you're bothered by close proximity to others or if you are uncomfortable conversing in close proximity to the strangers next to you. If you have any issues with strange people being near you, you may not be able to tolerate this place. I really loved the ceviche with the soy sauce, green onion, jalapeno and sesame seeds. It was very flavorful! This particular ceviche was in a different place on the menu. Just a heads-up, I had a great waiter who informed me that the tamago has gluten in the binder, so definitely bear that in mind if you have gluten issues, as opposed to simply reading the menu and judging by that. The Tina roll made gluten-free was delicious. Somehow, there's gluten in the spicy sauce so, unfortunately, that's part of the dish. I really would've enjoyed the spicy sauce on the sushi, but appreciated the waiter's forewarning that the spicy sauce has gluten so that I didn't get sick. As for service, it was exceptionally warm and welcoming staff, very genuine. The waiter was excellent, and he even gave a recommendation without waiting to be asked, which I love, and his recommendation for the soy-based ceviche was wonderful. It had a surprising and very much-appreciated bite from jalapenos. The more traditional ceviche had a clear sauce with sliced jalapenos, and that was good too. I love that this place isn't afraid of punchy spice. There are a number of spicy options, and they're never dumbed down to please everyone. The fish didn't taste quite as clean and fresh as I'm used to, but the flavors in all of the dishes were amazing! No one got sick or anything like that, but the flavor of the fish itself could've been better in that sense.

And it's not dumbed down American Chinese at all. My husband and I both work from home so we get to go have lunch at area restaurants from time to time. We have our regular places and we order Peter Chang's for takeout sometimes, but when we were deciding where to eat and knowing we were short on time, I suggested Peter Chang. For our meal we ordered dumplings, which were amazing. The dipping sauce was to die for...I need to research it and try to make it. We also got the scallion pancake, which came with a curry dipping sauce. Also very good. For lunch there is a menu that is typical of Chinese restaurants where you get a choice of soup (I chose hot and sour) and rice (I chose white rice). For my main I selected hot and numbing chicken from the lunch menu. My husband got three pepper steak. We also got jasmine tea, although if you prefer an adult beverage they have a bar. The food was excellent, service was attentive but not overbearing. It was a great meal and we both have lots of leftovers. The restaurant can be a bit noisy because it's just a big open room, but it's okay. The table next to use was loud talkers with no inside voice, so I got to hear all about their trip to Charlottesville for a concert. Sounds like they had a good time. I wish people were more self-aware about the volume of their voices in public but maybe his ears were wrecked from the concert. P.S. Peter Chang was the chef to a Chinese dignitary like an ambassador so he's the real deal.

Tteokbokki Having a vegan option without seafood was a great find. Most of the time the sauces have shellfish in them and I don't have the patience to make it from scratch. The noodles were cooked perfectly and they give you two vegetable dumplings on top. The sauce was nice and spicy without being too overwhelming. Kimchi pancakes: wish they had a bit more kimchi in them than the batter, but still good. Japchae with tofu, nice and almost beefy tasting. The black pepper was a nice punch. Korean fried tofu so nice and crispy with a really good sauce. I have been missing KFC since I turned vegan and good to know they have a good substitute for it. Service A good sized family run place where you can sit down or get take out. You order at the counter and they have a screen or you can be like us and take their paper menu to a table. A few four sized tables and some smaller two seaters. There was plenty of take out and delivery while we were seated. The person at the front was super helpful and patient as we tried to figure out what to order. They seemed busy and did not stop for too long the entire time. They came to bring us things and check in on us. Please use reusable cups for dining in and not styrofoam cups though! They have reusable utensils which is nice. Ambiance It's a fast casual place, but in a little strip mall in the county. They have K-pop playing and a stream of music videos so I didn't mind.

I felt slightly anxious at first, being that we were in a cozy two-top amongst the fray, but it subsided quickly because everyone was respectful and reasonably quiet. We ordered the veggie spring rolls to start, and I had the Chinatown Ramen, and my partner had the Chicken Fried Noodles. The appetizer was hot, savory, and spicy with the duck sauce and hot mustard mixture. If you like milder sauce, do not mix it. The entrees came out within five or so minutes of the appetizers, which seemed quick for a busy night. The ramen was spicy, hot, and filling. I was only able to finish about half. We will be enjoying those leftovers tonight. My partner said that her noodles and chicken were well-seasoned and delicious, too.
