Unfortunately this place gets worse so I've reached the end. I did a pickup order and the lady said 20 minutes. I arrived in 10 minutes and much to my surprise my food was sitting there. The spring rolls and pork rolls were barely filled and so over cooked. The Shrimp Chow Mein had very little shrimp and was not tasty. The Pork Lo Mein was dry and cold. How could it be cold? Precooked and sitting for additional orders? Our food was terrible. To also be honest I understood the plastic glass box they built over the front of the store during Covid. Now I'm tired of handing my credit card to a hand and getting my order out of a plastic box. Not customer friendly. Bad food and I feel like I'm in a bad area with the walled up booth. Please stay away from this establishment if possible. I came in first time coming to get a lunch special and did not look at it until I had gotten home.The egg roll was horrible, I bit into it and it was so very hard and I thought I was eating part of the bag it came in could not chew it and on the pepper steak it was more green peppers to cover and a few pieces of meat. Being from New York I feel a little biased about chinese food. I was raised in an eclectic city where I could eat food where each ethnicity enjoyed it themselves. We ate Chinese about once every two week and we knew where to and not to eat. We have lived in Virginia for six years now and have found it very difficult to find good ethinic food. If you are looking for authentic Chinese food, then New China is your best takeout restaurant in the Midlothian and Powhatan area. I won't say Richmond because I don't venture too far for takeout. I was a little skeptical trying this place, because I've always passed by and the way the restaurant looks doesn't really entice me all too much. Never judge a book by its cover! I ordered the teriyaki chicken and fried rice, the rice was amazing, although it's hard to mess up rice. But the teriyaki chicken on a stick, it was fantastic! Not sure what's going on but I wanted something spicy so I ordered the Kung pao chicken and It tasted like Play school Puddy. The chicken was very soggy & didn't taste like real chicken. The rice tasted like instant or pre-cooked rice. The lady at the window was very nice, but I won't be going back. I had to throw my food away. read more

I've had some pretty great Americanized Chinese food in my day. New China is alright, I think. I'll have to try some other dishes. I sampled several dishes and each one was a pinch underwhelming. Completely edible and satisfying. They've got prices you can't beat. That said, I've just had much better incarnations from similar places. The crab wontons are too sweet. The spring rolls are actually quite good, so I'll give them that. I ordered the Seafood delight. It's a dish that has scallops, shrimp, lobster, and crab. I had two lobster chunks in mine, several scallops and shrimp. The crab was the most prevalent thing here, and I'm honestly not sure it was actual crab? Nonetheless, the crab that is put in this dish is disgusting. I had to take it out and throw it away. And yes, I feel bad saying that. It was killing the whole dish. I sampled the beef and broccoli, which could use a thicker sauce. I also had a bit of the general tso's chicken, which was a little sweeter than I'm used to (also, I'm used to it being doused with sesame seeds and they don't do that here). The people that run it are very sweet and again, prices you can't beat. The portions provide for more than one meal (for this guy, anyway), which is always a plus. My primary complaint is the sweetness. Suggestions: Cut the sugar? Get better crab, or imitation crab if that's what you're using. Throw some corn starch in your brown sauce for the beef dishes. I'll definitely keep mining this place until I find my gem-of-a-dish. And when I find it, expect an upgraded rating! read more

I love New China! I've eaten there about 20 times already and we haven't known about the place very long. You can't beat their prices, the staff is wonderful, and everything tastes great. I definitely recommend them, and I'm glad they're in Powhatan! I see I rate these guys back in 2015, they are still 5 star in my book! The steamed dumplings are great, crab Rangoon is sweet but delicious, chicken and broccoli, sweet and sour chicken, general Tso's, veggie lo mein add chicken and shrimp, but if you're ever feeling adventurous their steak and cheese egg roll is awesomely greasy but A-MA-ZING! This is one of my favorite places in Powhatan, I'm so glad they're here. read more

This is an alright dining experience when I'm not in the mood to cook. PROS: The staff is very friendly. Their adorable children are often about, making merry. The prices are unbeatable. The portions are generous. Service is pretty quick. Their sweet tea is delicious. CONS: The flavors leave something to be desired. They generally strike me as a little bland. Had the seafood delight, bbq ribs and egg roles, it was great would made the 25 minute drive to eat there again. Love the location, the owners, and the prices. The food is always fresh! Really crisp veggies, no issues with MSG. However, the food needs a bit more spunk and spice. I have asked them for several of their dishes " in Hunan sauce" to get the spice and kick the flavor up. ( most dishes are a smidge too bland) but the owners are Aiming to please! They will chg things up to please. I have NEVER had better Egg foo young! Their chicken and shrimp hunan is great. My boys like the Li Mein( great) and the more pedestrian dishes, sweet & sour pork, sesame chk. Which are good. Just looking for a bit more taste... We had never eaten here, we always got take out from Allen's. Due to Allen's decline in quality we decided to try this. They were the nicest people! They made a dish up for us that they don't have on the menu, and I ordered the 4 seasons. The vegetables were excellent and quite a variety, the meat was tender and very distinguishable, and the shrimp were cooked perfectly. There was only one problem, they use a spice that I just didn't like. I am not sure what it is, but it was just enough to make me not really like either of the dishes. It started to wear on me after a little while. I will try them again. I work close so I may go in and ask them ahead of time. I recommend them for their quality and freshness, plus you cant beat their prices. Oh and they offer pints or quarts so it makes it affordable to try dishes, and their menu is extensive for a take out restaurant. read more
