I asked the woman that was working front counter, what is in the Mongolian beef? She said mushrooms, snow peas, green onions and white onions. I get home with the food I ordered to be disappointed. The Mongolian beef had carrots, mini corn on the cob, zucchini, Mushrooms, green peppers and big chunks of onions. It tasted like pepper steak! I called back up there to let her know on my food. Best take out Chinese food in Powhatan. There are 2 others which are very disappointing but in desperation I chose to try this one last night. What a pleasant surprise! Our go to for local Chinese food. It's pretty good. Have tried multiple items including sushi.

Take out only at present. Dinner portions come with rice. The plain orange rice (fried?) lined the entire container with entree on top two thirds. One third was more rice. Almost no chicken in chowmein. Flavor lacking. They did have a five for five special on shrimp egg rolls. They were good except that three of five lacked any shrimp. Just plain egg rolls. All in all food is fair. I think it is worth the drive to Jangs near Home Depot. Rice comes in separate container. Entree fills container giving you at least twice the main dish. Enough for two meals. Several huge pieces of chicken come with chicken chowmein. Egg roll is extra at Jangs, but they are somewhat bigger. Fried rice has chopped vegetables and great flavor. Not the plain orange rice of Taste of China. Menu offering are more extensive at Taste is China. Prices are a little higher at Jangs. But you get what you pay for. The Mrs. and I came here on Thursday night to grab dinner. We got General Tso's Chicken, Szechuan Beef, Hot and Sour soup, dumplings, a couple of egg rolls and an Alaska Roll (Salmon, Cucumber, Avocado). Here's the good - the food tasted great. The egg rolls were what you think egg rolls should taste like; savory, packed with veggies and pork, with a chewy shell. The Alaska roll was also very good; fresh, not skimpy on anything, didn't even need to dip it in sauce. The dumplings were almost as good as the ones I had fresh while I was in Korea. In short, all the food tasted good, the service was good, time from order to taking it out was nice and quick. Here's the reason I only gave it four stars instead of five - the dishes we got were supposed to be spicy. If General Tso's doesn't make you sweat at least a little bit, it's not General Tso's. The three dishes we got that were supposed to be spicy - General Tso's, Szechuan beef and the Hot and Sour soup, were all very mild. Savory, packed with flavor, but very little spice. Will we go back there? Yes. But I will look the cook in the eye and tell him that when I ask for it spicy, I want it spicy. read more

I've been in the area for only a few years and somehow missed this place. Got a coupon in the mail and gave them a try. Boy do I hate myself... for going three years without them! This is the best takeout of Sushi and Chinese in this area!! Highly recommended!! I always go to Allen's Chinese but thought I would try a new place. This food was horrible. The dumplings must have been made the day before and were not edible. They used thick flour tortilllas for the mu shu pork and they were dry and stiff I fed them to my chickens. This is worse then Chinese cafeteria food. read more

I really love this place. The location is easy to get to. The price is right. We loved the food with one exception. The General Tso's was not spicy and the Hot & Sour soup was neither. The food had great flavor, but those are specific items that we have expectations for. Next time we will try ordering them Chinese Hot and see if we get what we expect. We will be back! read more

I used to love this place, but when I ordered my usual dish the other day for lunch, I was Highly disappointed! Horrible! The meat didn't taste like chicken at all and it also didn't taste like it was done. Never will I go there Ever again. It looked and tasted like a rush job. And the egg roll was also horrible. Above average take-out chinese. It's no Allen's but it's also a bit less expensive. I agree that Asiana Bistro next door (same owners and kitchen) is wonderful and the only place near Powhatan to get good sushi (really good). Service is usually quick and always pleasant. I have an experienced palate and would recommend to all but the most snobbish dinners. read more
