No real problems but left a bit to be desired. We moved recently to the Midlo area so I've been looking for some reliable Chinese takeaway. This place seems very typical of the genre-- kind of a hole in the wall with an enticing menu. Again, you can't expect to be swept off your feet when you walk into a place like this, they are primarily a kitchen with a small waiting area. Easy to call your order in ahead of time, the staff were nice and accommodating. The food was good but not good enough to keep me as a regular; I'm hoping for more somewhere else. Everything was satisfying but just a little short of flavor, chicken wings were nicely done but without much meat on them. I'll order here again if I can't find anything tastier locally. read more

I was hoping that the quality of beef used in making Mongolian Beef would continue to be awesome but it's not. Ordered my Mongolian Beef and the beef they used is not the same. What a shame and I'm so very disappointed. I guess beef is getting too expensive to put quality into their dishes. I won't be ordering Mongolian Beef anymore and that makes me very sad. Good portions, fast service. Based on reviews, we anticipated generally good results and generally good food. However, hot and sour soup, our family's favorite, was disappointing (no rice vinegar in it, very little tofu and vegetable pieces, and not spicy; generally not much substance to it at all). The other food (Hunan, Sweet 'n Sour and Szechuan Chicken dishes were generous and tasty but dry (more sauce, please). Guess it's pizza next time. read more

I hate to throw a restaurant under the bus, particularly during these trying times. But... my experience at Hunan Wok Saturday evening (12-18-21) needs to be mentioned before someone makes the decision to order from here again (that evening anyway, carry-out was the only option.) We ordered three entrees, as well as two hot and sour soups, shrimp toast, and a couple of egg rolls. The soup was the first thing my wife and I tried, as for us it is always a highlight of any Chinese meal. Except this time. Amazingly, it was neither hot (spicy) or sour. By which I mean these flavors were almost imperceptible. Have vinegar and chili oil become costly? While properly thickened, it had almost no vegetables, zero scallions, no discernible pork, and would better be called a weak, thickened broth. We didn't eat either, but they're still in my fridge and tonight I'll see what I can do to make them palatable. My entree was a beef and shrimp dish. Happily, the shrimp seemed fresh and they were well cooked. The beef, however, was a gloppy, congealed mess, as though the meat had been dredged in cornstarch but then never seared. It was awful. My wife had similar complaints about a chicken dish. We each ate a small helping, groused and cursed the place, and threw away the bulk of it. You get the idea. Until and unless someone again gives this place a try and reports a serious improvement, I recommend looking elsewhere for your Chinese food fix. read more

I've been ordering from this place for over 10 years and today will be my last day. The food is delicious but between the attitude of the women in the kitchen who used to answer the phone and the fact that my same order is always a different total, i'm done. I always order a combination which was miscommunicated this time and that was okay. The young man at the front thought I wanted (2) entrees rather than a combo, cool. Terrible attitude comes to the front and going back and forth with me about how many less shrimp come in the combo and how it's only x dollars more. Great but that's not what I ordered and that's not what I want. I could not believe she huffed and puffed because she had to repack my order and then instead of asking what kind of egg roll I wanted, proceeds to pick a pork egg roll for me. I don't eat pork at all and when I asked if the spring roll was in the bag, she said "pork, it's pork" At that point I didn't even have the energy to go back and forth with her so I left it be. I just can not deal with the disgusting attitude and the receipt slamming anymore. read more

Not sure if they're tasting the food or not but after reading the review about the hot and sour soup then I decided to go with the wonton soup because who can get that wrong? It was tasteless just tasted like bland broth without any salt. I was truly disappointed. The Kung Pao chicken that I got wasn't too bad but I was really craving some great Chinese food. Hunan is really close to my house and during lunch then that's where you want to be but if I had to travel a few minutes or go out to eat then I'd definitely go for Jiangs. Their food is very good and flavorful but their delivery charge is too much. Goto Hunan if it's a quick fix for Chinese that you need but don't go if you really want some good stuff. right inside Sycamore Square across from the old Ukrops supermarket. I usually go to China top but they don't deliver so I tried this place and it was sooo much better. I know its fast food Chinese but it still is very good for fast food. they have a really nice very clean place to sit in and eat if you wish to do so. very pleasant not your typical fast food Chinese place with no personality. and they use real plates and silverware if you eat there. no waitress but they have tables to sit and enjoy your meal. I had the Beef and Broccoli and I always order extra beef cost more but totally worth it. they did not skimp on the BEEF : ) I will most definitely come back to enjoy other foods on the menu. A small restaurant located in a shopping center within the town of Midlothian, it was one restaurant that I had yet to try. How did my experience go? To find out, read below. The Good: Price- Compared to a number of decent take out restaurants South of the James, this restaurant offers reasonable prices for its dishes. None of the dishes seemed terribly over priced. On the Fence: Taste- I ordered the Chicken Fried Rice, Chicken Wings and Egg Drop Soup. I typically use Chicken Fried Rice as a test to see if the restaurant can produce bold flavors. The food was not bad but there was nothing to separate it from places like Jiang's and Hunan Garden. The Bad: Portion Size of Chicken Wings- While the chicken wings were cheaper than other restaurants, they were also significantly smaller. Overall- I like the bargain at this restaurant versus others in the area, but to me the food does not stand out from typical Chinese takeout and portion size of the wings was disappointing. In my family's view, this is the best Chinese in town. Food is consistently very good, hot and fresh which is a strong consideration for us. Entree's are packed in microwaveable boxes and then stapled into paper bags so they remain piping hot on the trip home. Portion sizes are outstanding.
