Food is not that good. I've tried several times. I usually start with shrimp fried rice at any Chinese food restaurant. If it's good then I venture out. Ate here years ago. Consistently not good. Did not get what we ordered. Ordered General Tso with White Meat only, we got grizzle instead. Taste of the rest of the food was below subpar, ended up throwing it all away, $50 plus down the drain. Don't waste your money. read more

If we could give half stars I would say that this would be a 3.5 star place. (I gave it 4 stars because this place isn't really a 3 star restaurant). It's not the most amazing Chinese place I've ever been to but it's a pretty solid fast food Chinese place around here and is our go to for delivery/take out. The employees are nice and easy to order from. They are pretty normal for delivery turn around. Foodwise, I'd say their dishes are a on the heavier side with good portions. The dishes I've ordered are nice and saucy, well portioned and not dry (like some of the other places). My fave so far would be their kung Pao chicken which are bigger chunks and not the smaller bits. Least fave (I'm very particular) would be the hot and sour soup. No one around this part of town can seem to get it right (at least for me). Note: they do require a $15 minimum for delivery. read more

On this past weekend while on my journey towards finding the best Chinese food that RVA has to offer, I stumbled across Tops China. While I've been to a few Tops China locations in the area, this was the first time that I visited this particular location. Located in the heart of Midlothian, I had somewhat above expectations for this place. How did my experience go? To find out, read below. The Good: Price/Portion- I read some of the previous reviews that rave about the price and portion of what you get at this restaurant. Well that seemed to be about the only saving grace this restaurant had from me giving it a One Star. From the two items that I purchased, the price came to a little under $12. And I was full after finishing my meal. The Bad: Taste- I ordered the Sweet and Sour Chicken Lunch Special and an order of Wings. The Sweet and Sour Chicken lacked any flavor whatsoever when there was no sauce on it. The pork fried rice was extremely dry. The chicken wings not only lacked seasoning but had a strange after taste. Almost as if the wings were just dipped in flour and dropped in boiling grease. Overall- Yes this is a meal that can fill me up, but I know of a few other places in the area that serve far superior food while at similar costs. If you are someone who appreciates the quality of food and you can afford to spend a few extra bucks elsewhere then you might want do that. TWO STARS. read more

Good Chinese takeout. Always hot fresh and consistent with good portions. Nothing stands out particularly. It's the standard American Chinese menu you find in thousands of mom and pop joints everywhere. But far tastier than most local takeout and this one is the best of the Tops locations I've ordered from in the Richmond area. I'm a big fan of their Szechuan chicken. read more

I will fight anyone who says there is better Chinese in Midlothian. For the price and the portion size, Tops can't be beat. You know it's authentic because you can see into the back kitchen and watch them wok fry everything. You can see them slicing the chicken and vegetables, and add the sauces to everything after the food is fully cooked. Still having doubts? How about $7 dinner combos with fried rice and an egg roll? This place is great for takeout, although I have eaten there once or twice as well. The owners are very nice and they provide quick service. We've lived right down the road for years, and I feel like this restaurant keeps getting better and better. It's run by a nice young family. Standard American Chinese takeout. Tonight for dinner I picked up a veggie lo mien, general tso's chicken, spring rolls, and donuts. It was reading in about 15, cost $26, and it tasted delicious and fresh. Maybe a few more veggies in the lo mien would've made it even better. We're loyal customers! read more

Terrible! Will never eat there again! We ordered 2 shrimp dishes and a chicken dish which made us sick with stomach cramping and indigestion and we took the food back the next day asking for a refund on the shrimp and they told us no and said they would sue us if we posted a bad review online! Just awful. We have been ordering from here for over a year and have never complained but the one time we had a problem they did not take care of us at all! Yuck. I use to go to this place all the time several years ago and remember it being pretty good. Now it's really bad. Everything is just coated with thick sugary sauces and the pieces of meat are so small, almost not existent. They just throw a bunch of breading on them. Barely any meat. Never going back. After waiting over 90 minutes for the 40 minute quoted delivery, we gave up and called. We were told, "we got busy, the driver just left". Initially, we were going to wait for the food but chose to call back and cancel the order and get the credit back on our card. The man on the phone said he would take care of it and would call the driver to let her know. We all then loaded in the car to go elsewhere for dinner. As we were leaving the street, we saw a car pull up at our house. Unbelievable! We feel bad for the delivery driver as it was not her fault. We at work had a $50.00 order with everyone wanting Chinese food for lunch. If you have something advertised then you should be doing. There food is not even that good. Just passing through town and picked up a small Hot and Sour soup. Price $1.85. It was delicious! It was very tasty. But had just a few pieces of pork and soybean. The chef actually made an individual soup for me. Since the kitchen can be seen on the customer side of the counter, I could watch what the chef and other attendants at work. I was impressed with the cleanliness of the kitchen. The dining area could use some work. The entry rug, the numbers on the window glass, and other features looked worn. read more

We recently moved to the area and this is the third Chinese restaurant we've tried on the Midlothian Turnpike. All have had similar prices and great service but Tops beat the others on taste. The sweet and sour chicken was fresh and not overcooked. The lo mein tasted exactly how it should. And the chicken and broccoli was perfectly cooked with a delicious brown sauce.
