It's been a very long time since I came back and I'm not sure why. Yesterday we celebrated a friend's birthday at Yen Ching. We were seated promptly. Service was great and attentive! Never did we have to wait to have our drinks refilled. We ordered two appetizers which we share: steak on a stick there were 6 pieces on skewers very yummy. I had and Egg roll which was good and pork dumplings fried. We all tucked into them and were delicious! I along with the birthday celebrent had order The Happy Family. Another person had Cashew Chicken and of course I forgot what my other friend had. We all were enjoying our dinner remarking the great portion size and the amazing taste. I've given this places several tries, but the last visit is my last visit. I've never eaten inside, but have picked up carry out several times. The location is convenient and the food is good, but the service to take out is terrible. The staff is so rude! Every time! Especially the older lady who I believe may be the wife/owner. She looked right at me as I stood for 10 mins. at the register while she chatted about general things with a customer who seemed to be a regular. I still can't believe how she had me stand there and my food just sat there. A waiter came by to see if I needed to order. When I told him I called in an order, he acknowledged that it was sitting there on the table, but I assume he wasn't able to ring me up so I remained standing with hopes that someone would eventually ring me up. After the unnecessary long wait and standing there looking at the person who was supposed to ring me up, but preferred to chitchat in length instead, I just walked out empty handed. read more

Always great. We order from Yen Ching - Midlothian on a regular basis. My husband generally gets Orange Flavored Chicken Orr General Tso's Chicken, always delicious. I favor the Chicken Egg Foo Yong, always great (l usually get a side of hot oil since I like spicy). We have also tried a number of other dishes and have never been disappointed. If you're looking for good Chinese take out spot, this is the one for you! Shrimp fried rice- 10/10 I was craving restaurant style fried rice as a late night dinner and this really hit the spot! They packed the container so full, it was enough for two people to eat two full meals. They did not skimp on the shrimp! So YUM! Fried rice is a MUST. Orange chicken- 8/10 I remembered last time I got a spicy orange chicken and it was SO DELICIOUS- so I was sad that this time, the medium spice wasn't spicy. I think I needed extra spicy! But either way, it paired super well with the rice. Ginger chicken wings- 8/10 Ok I really like chicken wings and I also really like ginger so this combo was gooood! I took my mom there for her birthday when my dad tried to order the fish he was quickly told they didn't have anything available off the American part of the menu, We ordered the Hunan chicken . For 16 $ you would think you might get an egg roll or soup like at all the other like places. Did even get asked if we wanted soup or egg roll .. the Hunan chicken was chicken and broccoli with some kind of sauce that was not spicy at all tasted like dish soup. . I could have chosen 1 of 20 other restaurants to celebrate my mom's birthday but I chose this place. It's wasn't very clean , and the whole experience was embarrassing for me to take my parents there for a special occasion.... And way over priced ... very disappointing read more

The hostess was very nice. I ordered a large wonton soup to go and went to Food Lion to pick up a couple of things. Got back home and there were FOUR wontons in a quart of soup. I seldom go to restaurants as I take care of my parents. I really missed Yin Ching on Genito Road. This restaurant was always top-notch, serving fabulous food that was prepared just right! Every time over the decades. I looked forward to the takeout I purchased. First, I noticed an employee come from the kitchen in filthy clothes. I ordered sesame shrimp. I couldn't tell if I was eating chicken or shrimp because they were so overdone and tough. My parents got honey shrimp. Again over overdone! Somebody else must be running that restaurant. This is my local Chinese Restaurant ! Food is OK , but I am from NYC and grew up right next to China town in Manhattan . Anyway , I ordered $50 worth of food . Appetizer , soup and 2 entrees . I only got 1 fortune cookie! Really ! If you only gonna put one fortune cookie in there after you give me all of this food you should realize that's an insult. Another excellent quality Chinese meal....it was light just the two us of us. She enjoyed crispy chicken which had the look and sort-of taste of General Tso's along with an egg roll (cake with small bowl of hot mustard and small bowl of sauce). I enjoyed a large plate of King Pao Shrimp - plenty of it for two to be honest so I definitely took home leftovers. Both of our entre s came with a small bowl of fried (other option I believe was white) rice which blended well. The food is consistently good, but...don't place an order for dinner portion prior to 3:30 pm or they may charge you for the dinner portion, but give you the lunch portion. The dinner portions give you much more bang for your buck. The lunch portion is more like a snack when you do pick up or delivery. read more

Twice, in the recent past, we ordered take-out and delivery from Yen Ching Chinese Restaurant, located at the corner of Hull Street Road and Genito Rd in Chesterfield, Virginia. Both times, our orders were missing one of the main entrees. Tonight, my wife and I ordered by phone Peking Duck, Beef with Broccoli, two large Hot and Sour soups and Fried Rice. I handed the cashier, Sarah, our credit card for a total of $90.95 and I gave them a generous tip...my mistake. Even the receipt had the entree listed on it. Got home and the Beef w/Broccoli was missing. I called Sarah, the cashier and complained (obviously I was angry but more so, since we had driven from Middle Georgia to our empty house, which had sold recently, so there was no silverware or dishes). But I digress. Sarah said she was sorry but had "no control over what the kitchen does." So I asked for a refund, and she said she "didn't have control" of that, either, but to call the owner, Lin, at 804-928-9009, but the call went to voice mail, with the mailbox full allowing zero messages. I called Yen Ching again, but got the same response from Sarah. She even refused to cook the food again and have it delivered for free, saying she had "no authority to deliver food for free." So, instead of a refund for roughly $27.00, we will be asking for the entire amount ($100.00) to be returned, as the response from the restaurant is totally unacceptable and ruined our dinner not once, but on two separate occasions. read more

Words CANNOT express how disappointed we are with the quality of the food at this place. Looks are deceiving. At first glance you would think this was a notch above the average Chinese joint. Not at all actually a few notches below. We ordered spicy pork fried rice with extra pork. $4 FN dollars for extra pork, an order of fried wings extra crispy and large wonton soup with 4 extra wonton (.50 each) The rice was bland to say the least and not one ounce of spice, the wings were soggy and crispy. How the hell they do that? The wonton soup was RIDICULOUS. The wonton filling was non existent some didn't have any filling at all. I asked for 4 extra and the entire container only had about 6 wonton. WTF. We tried to support this local business during this covid19 crisis and totally regret going to this place. Food is too greasy. They don't care how sloppy they pack the food. 9 out of 10 times they get your order wrong. You receive your food always, "cold". They use their cardboard boxes that always spill over in the bag. They should use their plastic containers. Keeps it warmer. read more

I can only comment on the shrimp fried rice and egg rolls. Since moving to the Richmond area I can't find many places that can duplicate Chinese food the way I like it. I tried several Chinese restaurants before moving to my current area and was always disappointed with the food especially the fried rice. The rice generally is fluffy and very flavorful not too salty. The shrimp wasn't over cooked and was in ample supply. I've gone back several times. The egg rolls are crispy and full of vegetables cooked just right. Would definitely recommend and will be going back. read more
