I stopped in for dinner while I was waiting for a nearby appointment. The woman behind the counter was friendly and explained the dinner specials to me. I decided on Kung pao chicken with vegetable fried rice and a spring roll. The restaurant was completely empty and she brought my food out to me pretty quickly. The portion size was pretty large, and the chicken and rice were so hot that I had to let it cool off before I was able to eat it. I had the spring roll first, which was on the small size and was light on filling. When I was finally able to eat my food, I found the Kung pao to be mildly spicy, but with a sweet flavor that I was not accustomed to. The rice was good, especially when mixed with the Kung pao sauce. Overall, it was a decent meal, but as I don't live nearby, I probably wouldn't go out of my way to come back. 3.5 stars. read more

We are so happy to have visited Asian Grill tonight. We've been looking for a really good traditional Chinese restaurant since moving to North Chesterfield area 6 months ago. Finally, we try Asian Grill in Midlothian and we couldn't be happier. I had the diet friendly Imperial Delight and it was delicious on its own. She let me taste the hot n sour soup before purchasing and I knew we were in good hands. The sesame chicken was the best I've had (truly), and fiancé says his General Yao's was excellent. AT LAST, a restaurant who knows how to make things SPICY! The trick is, you have to ask. And when they say "On a scale of 1-10, how spicy do you want it?" don't go higher than 5 unless you've either lived in China or you like inhaling lava. My wife enjoys food that's been marinated in the spicy stew of Satan, while I'm a bit more relaxed when it comes to spice: I want my scalp to sweat, but I don't want to feel like I've swallowed hot coals afterwards. They do it all, my friends. If you're a typical Virginian native, they make things nice and sweet and mellow. If you're my wife (you know who you are, you cheeky minx!) then they happily blast your palate with a flamethrower. The entrees were done well, the eggrolls were crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside, the soups were spot on (although they might have used a bit too much sesame in the Egg Flower Soup, but I enjoyed it all the same), and the total cost for two people plus a nice tip was $30. This place was good. They seem to have gone downhill. In September the food was good, ordered tonight and it was not very good at all. The General Tso chicken was mostly breading, the egg rolls and chicken wings were cold. I'm not sure I'd order from them again, and definitely not through Grub Hub. Update... Just from the friendliness and how personable the young lady at the counter was made up my mind to add this as a bookmark! It feels like a lot of mom & pop shops don't have the personality needed to be successful in the service industry, but this is not true for this place! The menu has many tasty options that made me think once, twice...ok...quite a few times about what I should pick from the menu. My usual choice is orange chicken amd plain fried rice w egg and onions. Though a common dish, many chinese food restaurants don't make it well enough that I want to come back, but not here. Bland ... and way too much corn starch in everything ... I decided to give this place a try after seeing good Yelp reviews. If you are going to distinguish spicy dishes from non-spicy ones on the menu, I shouldn't have to ask them to make it spicy. I ordered 3 spicy dishes and two non-spicy dish. All 3 dishes were bland and all the vegetables tasted steamed instead of stir-fried. The meats also tasted mushy and lacked the texture you get with being stir-fried in hot oil. Sauces were way too heavy on corn starch and became very lumpy. Overall flavor was not very nuanced and almost indistinguishable from one dish to another. Egg drop soup was bland and flavorless and the hot and sour soup was mostly sour. The most expensive dish, the orange chicken was just terrible. It was heavily breaded, mushy and very bland; it lacked the flavorful crispy, slightly firm outer texture. Only decent dish was the chicken lo-mein, which was well seasoned with noodles that were not overly drenched in oil like other Chinese take-outs. All in all, I was rather disappointed. They cost about a dollar less per dish than what other local Chinese restaurants charge, so there is that. Nevertheless, I would rather pay little more and go with Jiang's or CC Wok. read more

Okay so confession we have only ever gotten delivery from this place so technically my "check in" was when it was delivered to my house! My boyfriend and I have been trying different Chinese restaurants in the area for months to find one that not only delivers, is reasonably priced, and most importantly is delicious. We have decided that Chinese food is not Richmond's strong point but we have landed on Asian Grill being the best scoring high in all three categories. So they deliver - every time we call they say it is going to take 40 minutes - it never takes more than 20. It is a great price!! We order a ton of food and our total is always really really reasonable. And it's good, always piping hot when we get it, we normally get our usual - Sesame Chicken and General Tso's - which comes with tons of rice and either a drink or an egg roll - that is their dinner combo. I won't claim that this is the best Chinese food in the Richmond area but it's a great price, they deliver, and it pretty darn good! read more
