Mapo tofu and Singapore Mei Fun

Five stars. I've lived here in short pump for a few years now and have not found a Chinese restaurant I really liked yet. I absolutely LOVE this place. The food was hot and delicious. No wait. I got the Singapore mei fun and mapo tofu and crispy noodles. The owner is so friendly. Great service. Will be back here again soon. I've found my new go to place to Chinese food.

I eat Chinese food about 2-3 times a year. It's freezing cold outside and thought I'd do take out/delivery. Having not ordered here before I asked if I could get General Tso Chicken without spice. She said yes. I ordered that with fried rice. The woman gave me my price and before I could thank her, she hung up. I hate that. Say bye or something. The guy that delivered arrived about 30-45 minutes and he was nice. My rice was a little on the dry side but it tasted ok with the chicken on top. Overall it was o.k. I will order from New Asian Panda when I get the urge to eat Chinese food again.

Ordered house mei noodles and orange chicken. The orange chicken is missing the chicken. The noodles are missing taste. All of it is Poorly made. No taste. No utensil with the delivery. Now my stomach is turning and I seriously think I have food poisoning. I am going to barf and have diarrhea . Seriously I'm not feeling well at all. This is not good. HELP.

This is our favorite spot for a tax season comfort lunch. Whenever our brain goes mash after a crazy morning, the whole office would come together and yell "Where is the menu of New Asian Panda?!" The delivery service is quick and reliable and always comes with some small treats. I haven't tried everything on the menu but definitely trying to. I always order the same Beef Mei Fun extra spicy. That would sure clear your Spring sinuses up. The owner usually have one dish off the menu everyday which is really good. Just had beef slices with Jalapeños today. And last week was curry wings. The place helped us through three tax seasons already and still counting. Everyone in the office voted 5 stars!

Update: I was immediately contacted by mgmt and refunded. Excellent customer service. The sweet & sour chicken was horrible.

Update: within an hour of posting my original review the store owner contacted me with a refund ANS 50% off my next order. Thank you for the prompt customer service!

There is much better Chinese take-out in the area. The food was mediocre at best. It was oily, bland and flavorless.

And it's not dumbed down American Chinese at all. My husband and I both work from home so we get to go have lunch at area restaurants from time to time. We have our regular places and we order Peter Chang's for takeout sometimes, but when we were deciding where to eat and knowing we were short on time, I suggested Peter Chang. For our meal we ordered dumplings, which were amazing. The dipping sauce was to die for...I need to research it and try to make it. We also got the scallion pancake, which came with a curry dipping sauce. Also very good. For lunch there is a menu that is typical of Chinese restaurants where you get a choice of soup (I chose hot and sour) and rice (I chose white rice). For my main I selected hot and numbing chicken from the lunch menu. My husband got three pepper steak. We also got jasmine tea, although if you prefer an adult beverage they have a bar. The food was excellent, service was attentive but not overbearing. It was a great meal and we both have lots of leftovers. The restaurant can be a bit noisy because it's just a big open room, but it's okay. The table next to use was loud talkers with no inside voice, so I got to hear all about their trip to Charlottesville for a concert. Sounds like they had a good time. I wish people were more self-aware about the volume of their voices in public but maybe his ears were wrecked from the concert. P.S. Peter Chang was the chef to a Chinese dignitary like an ambassador so he's the real deal.

It had too much soy sauce and you couldn't taste anything else. The white rice was dry and undercooked. I feel like this is an utter travesty. I was at least expecting good rice. The golden mountain had great flavor but I think it was a mistake to eat it at home. It was mushy by the time we ate it. You can taste the spite in general Tso's chicken. It's like they don't want you to order it. The flavor is just sweet without any complexity. I've had better flavored general Tso sauce from grocery store brands. It was also mushy by the time we ate it. I would never order this again from them.

I believe the original was on Grove where EAT Partner's Beijing on Grove is now located. I stopped in for a take-out order. I ordered Gen Tso's Chicken, hot and sour soup, fried rice, pork lo mein and a shrimp spring roll. The General Tso's chicken was awful. The chicken was a mushy clump of cubed, fried chicken. The chicken was no longer crisp (I've brought home or had delivered Gen Tso's and Orange Chicken in which the batter was still crisp, so no excuse for this when I was only about 3 miles from home). The chicken was swimming in a thick, overly sweet sauce that had WAY too much cornstarch. The fried rice *looked* like it would be good, but I have a feeling the dark color was mostly from dark/black soy sauce which mostly gives color to a dish. The rice was literally tasteless. I had to add some low-sodium soy to give it some flavor. The pork lo mein was equally as tasteless as the fried rice. The slices of roast pork were so dry that without dipping it into some sauce (which looked like extra oil on the bottom of the container), it got stuck in my throat. I make my own roast pork for making my own egg rolls and it's a ton more flavorful than this was. The shrimp roll has some shrimp in it, though I couldn't really taste it. Biting into the spring roll released a bunch of oil onto the wrapper. Not very appetizing. The ONLY decent thing in the order was the hot and sour soup. It had a good balance of heat, and vinegar. I think I tasted some bamboo shoots, and there may have been some mushrooms, but really good hot & sour (like I've had in Chinatown in NY, San Francisco and Washington D.C.) has tree ear mushrooms (also known as black fungus), dried lily flowers, and other ingredients that I didn't see or taste in this soup. But it was NOT too thick which was great as some restaurants use too much cornstarch. This was a lunch combo (Gen Tso, fried rice, hot and sour soup) and the lo mein and shrimp roll was separate. All in all, the total was just over $24 and definitely not worth it. I can't see going back to this restaurant again.

The interesting thing about placing the order is that you also pay when the order is placed, then they bring the food out when it's made. I ordered their red oil wontons and their cumin lamb noodles, but I subbed the lamb for beef. This came out before the wontons and it looked and smelled great! The beef was very tender, so were the amazing noodles! The spices were so tasty and offered a decent kick, but not too hot. I love stir-fried onions in dishes like this and these were so good that I tried to enjoy one piece with each bite of noodle and beef. The red oil wontons were incredible! The flavor of the oil was perfect! Exactly what it should be and it offered a very nice kick of heat too! This was one of the best wontons I've had in a long time! Walking in, it was completely empty, no customers. By the time I left, several tables were sat and they had a steady stream of carry-out/delivery pickups. The service was very spotty, as they only had two people working the dining room and so many people went without someone checking them in, I waited about 15 mins for my check and those delivery drivers formed a line waiting for their pickups. I tried their spicy cucumber salad and their three pepper beef, but I sub'd out the beef for chicken instead. The cucumbers were decent, they had a nice spice to them and the vegetable itself was fresh. The three pepper chicken came out on a sizzling platter (a fajita platter with aluminum foil on it) and looked pretty good. My first few bites had the great flavor of wok hei, which I love! But I quickly noticed there was no other flavor other than some sort of pickled pepper flavor, which is very odd in Chinese food. The chicken texture was great, but the entire dish was swimming in vegetal oil, it wasn't dry spiced and wok'd. Overall, this visit was only slightly better than the first, only because they were open this time. But I most definitely wouldn't return.
