I know I know...what the heck took us so long to visit @hogsheadcafe lol and the honest answer is I get off too late to enjoy their hour of happiness during the week but they offer a late night option and weekend hours as well (didn't know that, now I do)! Welp Friday I took the day off cause why not extend my extended weekend lol and what a treat! Met my mom and niece while Mimi joined after she got off! We ordered a variety of apps as they are 1/2 off (we actually ordered two rounds of the fish nuggs 5/5), BBQ chicken bites (5/5 chicken was super juicy and hot), chili cheese fries( healthy portions with plenty of toppings should have asked for crispy fries but tasty 4.2/5), Hog nachos (again plentiful and full of toppings but the pork was a bit bland to me so I added their house bbq sauce pulled up my rating 3.9/5) and the garlic parm bites (chicken chunks were juicy but sauce a bit salty for my liking 3.1/5). Absolutely adore this place. It's a homey place and feels so good to be there! Everyone is so welcoming and the food..... so worth the hype that it is given. The big Philly is my favorite here. I can't even have cheese like that but I risk it for this Philly cheesesteak. I've had a few in RVA but no other cheesesteak is as good as Hogshead. The meat is seasoned just right and the cooper American cheese really gives it that extra ump!!!!! My friends loved their Big Boner which is their epic hot dog... it was shared between 5 people! And one friend who ordered the Hogs burger felt like she was in heaven. And the lobster bisque was also good. BUT MY MOST FAVORITE was the catfish nuggets. We visited for their Happy hour (half off appetizers) which starts at 3pm. Three of us ordered quite a few appetizers. I've been here quite a few times in the past and can only say their food is delicious. I loved being able to try items I hadn't tried before, such as the steamed shrimp and their jumbo wings. The drink options for happy hour were not the priority for me, but my father was visiting from New Orleans and was not impressed with the drink options for happy hour. I think I'll visit during happy hour more as I felt I got a "bang for my buck". Even if they stopped having happy hour though, this is still one of my favorite places to eat. read more

Came here on a Sunday, noticed it was nice and quiet with a singer. I ended up getting the big chicken Caeser wrap. It was delicious and giant! It had a perfect amount of sauce throughout. My bf got the half rack of ribs, but sadly they were tough and almost impossible to cook, he didnt even eat it it was so fatty and tough. for that price he was disappointed because it was not cheap. The sweet potato fries and the potato salad was delicious though. If we were to come back, it would not be for the ribs, but to try something else. Finally came to see if this place was worth all the hype after seeing it all over tiktok. We went on a Sunday and they had live music inside. The inside was a little too loud for our little one so we opted to sit outside on their patio. The service was great even though we were the only ones outside. I've heard mixed reviews on the service but no complaints here, staff were friendly and attentive. The food was good but not a good as the tiktokers make it seem. The consensus of the table was that we were not fans of the bread for the sandwiches but the meat on the cheese steak and pulled pork were excellent! Great portions and flavor. The food here is delicious and tasty. I had the cheese steak pack with steak and cheese. My wife had the chicken cheese steak sandwich. She said it was very good and not dry. I also had the baby beans they were excellent. So good we came back again I got the same thing. The place is packed with people eating and drinking. I like the vibe here. We stopped by on the next day I had the pulled pork bbq sandwich. This was a let down from yesterday. We got our appetizer which was fried pickle spears. They were very good. So I had hope that the food would salvage the experience. My wife got pulled pork platter and I got surf and turf. That was a rack of ribs with blackened shrimp. Doesn't sound bad. The entrees came out. My wife's pulled pork had no taste to it. The only thing that saved it was the choice of 3 greasy bottles of different sauces on the table. My entree didn't fair much better. The rack of ribs was a dry rub. I honestly could not tell what the flavoring was. It was something sweet but not brown sugar sweet. It had no smoke flavor either. They were tender. I picked up the rack and the bones fell out. The blackened shrimp were good size but very overcooked. There was a hint of blackened seasoning. Overall I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. I've seen Hogs Head Cafe sign from broad street a million times in my life but never stopped. While down the Tik Toc rabbit hole, I saw the most delicious food posted. So the next day my daughter and I went to pick up dinner! On a Tuesday night customers were pretty steady. The host was also taking to go orders, payment and filling those orders. Although busy and a little overwhelmed she did everything with a smile and was super polite. The menus are available at the host stand to view. But there is also like a secret menu posted on the chalk board next to the bar. There were lots of goodies on there that wasn't on the main menu. Like crab pretzels, blackberry and peach cobbler. Since it was our first time there, we wanted to keep it simple and ordered our food to go. We had the limeades that are made fresh in house; 6 Garlic Parmesan Smoked Wings; Mac and cheese and Blackberry Cobbler. The food was so hot and fresh the bag was hot and steamy on the way home. The smell was Devine the whole car ride home. I was a little curious why 6 wings were 16 bucks and to my surprise when I opened the box, these are 6 WHOLE WINGS! Not your little wing dings. 6 whole fresh wings that were as big as the palm of my hand. The wings were so fresh, seasoned to perfection. My daughter's Mac and cheese was super creamy and full of cheddar. The blackberry cobbler made me go back the next day and pick up two so I wouldn't have to share with my daughter this time. Tuesday 2/18 3pm Had a taste for some wings and per a recommendation I decided to try Hogshead on Broad Street. Luckily for us they have happy hour starting at three and that included half off the wings, really good deal! They had half off of all the starters/appetizers. I ordered garlic parmesan wings and received BBQ. I sent those back for a correction. But took a picture anyway lol. My friend ordered flavor "sticky stinger" wings, those are the ones with the sprinkles. My garlic parmesan wings came I thought they would be a dry rub but it's wet. I don't eat spicy so that's why I chose this flavor. We also ordered plain tater tots. They were just that, plain tater tots. My garlic parmesan wings were good. I like that they were whole wings. I would eat there again. My friend said that the sticky stinger flavor wings were good and a little spicy, but that's what she wanted. She got a large strawberry limeade that she really liked a lot. Note: This review, like all of my reviews, is objective, factual, and thoughtful. I went to this establishment on August 9th with my son for a pre-birthday lunch. We arrived at 3:11pm. We were told that the wait time for a seat was 45 minutes, though there were empty tables inside and out. When my son saw two seats at the bar, he asked if we could sit there, and it was afforded to us. We didn't get a menu until 26 minutes later, when we sat at the bar. The server apologized for the tardiness in giving us a menu, but online orders had a backlog. After sharing that state, it was another 20 minutes before the server took our order. Then it was another 35 minutes before our food arrived. We ordered a Shrimp Po' Boy with w/fries, Big Philly, and a small salad with w/ranch dressing. Our food was good, flavorful, and tasty. After we finished our meal, we waited 23 minutes for the server to give us our check. Once we received it, it took the server 30 minutes to pick up our check payment and another 20 minutes to return it. Did I say that we were sitting at the bar area? Yeah, some feet away from our server and half a bar side patiently awaiting food, drinks, and checks. We were at the restaurant for over three hours. The long wait and being ignored detracted from the food. There appeared to be enough wait staff for us not to wait so long. We were down in Richmond to do some shopping and ended up grabbing a late lunch. It was a quick 5-6 min drive from Shortpump and very worth the drive. The restaurant was busy but not packed. We ended up sitting upstairs. Our waitress was amazing. She was friendly and had recommendations for us since it was our first visit. I had the chance to try the Philly cheesesteak, and it was absolutely phenomenal. The bread alone deserves special mention--soft, incredibly fresh, and with just the right texture. I ordered the chicken Philly, and my boyfriend went with the classic beef. Both were excellent. However, one aspect of the experience left me disappointed. After spending several hours in the restaurant and finishing that large drink, we wrapped up our meal and left around 9 p.m., when they closed. We lingered in the area, and around 9:48 p.m., I found myself urgently needing to use the restroom--understandable, given the amount of liquid I'd consumed. Although I was fully aware the restaurant had closed, I hoped that, as a paying customer who had just spent nearly $100 and patiently waited for over an hour and a half for our food, they might make a small exception. I knocked on the door, clearly in distress, and could see the staff still inside chatting. Unfortunately, they refused to let me in, stating they were closed. While I understand policies are in place for a reason, it was disheartening to be denied a basic courtesy--especially given the circumstances. A little empathy and flexibility in customer service can go a long way, and this interaction left a sour note on an otherwise great visit. Overall, the food was fantastic, and I would still return. I just hope that as they continue to grow, their customer service evolves to match the quality of their menu cause that wasn't it. We came here the day after a funeral with my uncle before he left the state on a Sunday and I'm so glad since the brunch menu is Sunday only. We were greeted by the hostess weathering a comical shirt proclaiming "I got a Big Boner at the hogshead cafe" referencing the Big Boner hot dog (which sounds HUGE with so many toppings I can't remember them all but include ribs). No one expected the size of our meals at all. My brother was the only one to finish his whole meal, though I'm not entirely sure how he got his mouth around the dang thing. So we came into this establishment and ordered 3 things. Hush puppies, the Blackened Chicken Sandwich, and the Lobster Bisque Soup. It took us nearly an hour just to get our food. When the finnaly came, the hush puppies were just normal fried bread, a little burnt, the sand which was very big, lots of toppings, and the soup, it was OK, it was not good in my opinion. Tried for the first time and everything was amazing! We had the Caesar salad that I forgot to get a pic of, the shrimp po boy and the famous cheesesteak (on the seeded bun) and EVERYTHING was delicious!!! The server was very nice and explained everything since it was our first time dining there. The atmosphere was sort of a dive bar. A family member suggested this restaurant so I ordered to go, but will be back to dine in. The restaurant has a homey feel and they even have live music. The host was very nice and gave great suggestions. We had the Hog sampler and the ribs were very tender and great flavor. Also ordered side of brisket which was very tender but the star was the Hog Nachos, they were great especially with the bbq sauce added a little dazzle. read more
