Wow its place was so good. We did get the big Philly we shared it and still didn't eat it all. Staff was friendly as well.

We stopped by around 1 pm on a Tuesday. When we arrived, there was only one other table occupied, so we were seated immediately seated, which was awesome. A very friendly gentleman took our drink orders and brought them back a few minutes later, then took our order. Unfortunately, that was the last time we interacted with him. For the entire rest of the time there, he was standing behind the bar, presumably taking phone orders. Which is all well and good, I'm happy they have a designated person to do that, but it would be nice if that person weren't already waiting tables. We had to flag down someone else to get a refill of my long-consumed drink, my friend never got a refill of her soda, we had to flag someone down to request our check... It actually got kind of annoying, because the person we kept flagging down was mostly just standing there. The food was darn good, the homemade pork rinds are AMAZING. They are well seasoned and come with maybe ranch and a chipotle sauce. My friend ordered a Caesar salad as one of her sides and the dressing was awesome. I ordered the appetizer nachos, and they were HUGE and delicious. The pricing here is a little random and some of it seems really overpriced. One of my friends got an iced tea and it was $8. I asked for some salsa for the pulled pork nachos ($15 and a GREAT price) since they offered Frank's, Louisiana, or Texas Pete hot sauce and I'm not a fan of those, and it is $2 for a shot glass of salsa. We will be back, because the food is really good and they have some really nice options, but will definitely reconsider our expectations when it comes to how much we are going to pay and whether or not we get refills. read more

We were in Richmond for the South Atlantic Championships volleyball tournament. We had a party of 24. The restaurant didn't take reservations but they let us call ahead. When we got there, two big tables were already set up upstairs. The ambiance was nice and quiet. We had the whole upstairs to ourselves. Their patio is beautiful with plants and a little water fountain. The service was wonderful. Our waiter, Cooper, was super attentive and friendly. We really appreciated he allowed each family to have separate checks. The food was amazing. They are famous for their BBQ but their tacos were excellent. Everyone in our group enjoyed their food. HogsHead is a southern feeling, laid back bbq + seafood shop but with some creative food flair mixing up combinations of foods to make them more tasty and interesting than a traditional bbq restaurant. For example, they offer a hamburger or alternatively a hotdog option with chili, pork bbq, bacon, cheeses and other toppings as a build your own (you can add one, some or all) or preselected combination of topping options. Other unique options include bbq tacos (crazy good) to salads. Add to that some seafood options from soups to entrees and you get an idea of what HogsHead is about. Food is high quality and portions are large. Great specials that are run daily- see their Facebook page for their current options. Nice drink selections with full bar and a number of beers on tap. Prices are reasonable for what you get. Service has been very good. Ambiance is nice - but can get loud inside when busy. Indoor and outdoor seating. Live music, usually summer weekends. Seating can accommodate large parties. Definitely worth a stop if you have not eaten here before and a great place to come back to. Cheers! read more

So I have driven past this place 1000's of times and never once stopped or even looked it up. A friend told me about the 1/2 lb hotdog wrapped in bacon... shut up and take my money, a hot dog wrapped in bacon! So I got "The Boner" which consist of the bacon wrapped hotdog with coleslaw, pulled pork and 2 baby back ribs on top. I also had the side of scalloped potatoes. The atmosphere is very nice, with table/booth seating and they also have bar seating as well. The staff was friendly and very quick to seat me. The decor of the place is very nice with several TVs. The bar has a fair selection for drinks. When the food arrived the presentation was very nice. The ribs were piled up on the dog. Let me warn you, this dog is huge! The ribs had a nice smoke flavor, they also have 2 bbq sauces and a mustard to use on the table. The food was delicious. I have to honestly say the scalloped potatoes are the best I have ever eaten, sorry Mom!!! I did snap pictures of the food so honestly I'll let the pictures do the talking for me. Now I rarely ever order a dessert however I saw on the specials chalk board that they chocolate lava cake and well I'm a sucker for a good lava cake. The presentation of the cake was outstanding and the taste was just as good! A scoop of vanilla ice cream on top with a garnish and a cherry. HogsHead, you've won me over on todays visit. Our party also had the chili cheese fries, big Philly, surf and turf (the fried fish was phenomenal!!), macaroni and cheese, baked beans, and the hogade. Everything was delicious. HogsHead Cafe had been on my "to try" list for quite a while, so I'm glad I finally got a chance to visit! This is certainly an excellent spot to enjoy lunch, so long as you're willing to pay the price. My friend and I visited on a Saturday afternoon and found no competition for parking in the private lot. When we got inside, we found out why: the place was nearly empty, with only two small tables of customers. This was concerning at first, though thankfully it ultimately just meant better service for our excellent waitress. She was attentive throughout the meal and made regular callbacks for drinks and to check on us. Ambiance was nice though mostly unremarkable. I absolutely loved my pulled pork burger, and the portion size was quite good (felt full for the rest of the day despite dining at 3pm!). That said, I personally felt "priced out" of many menu options, so unless this was a special occasion, I would stick to a handful of items including the one I got. My friend opted for the oysters and a shrimp po boy, and while he liked the po boy, the oysters were a bit disappointing. I had one, and they seemed decent to me. I would absolutely return here for the same burger, or on a special occasion to try something new. Great BBQ option! Overall: 4.0 stars ---- Pros: - Excellent BBQ and burgers. - Great service. - Plenty of easy parking. Cons: - Pricing is pretty aggressive for nearly everything. Usually a good place to eat. Tonight a 20 min wait to find out both orders don't get rye bread. Had to order something else. Another 20 mins waiting on refill of tea. Sides came out cold. Still waiting. Chicken tenders sent back with sides due to cold. Came back reheated as was same tenders sent back. Issues were noticed but not acted upon. Manager nice guy but ineffectual. 2 of party ate entree, no sides yet. 1 whole chicken tenders meal not shown up. Been here over an hour. Received sides long after entrees eaten. I ran to the men's room because I reall had to go and when I finished I went to a table. The staff looked at each other, which I noticed. I missed the sign that said "please wait to be seated." I noticed it because another costumer had come in, and was waiting to be seated. The manager went to seat them and male server came to my table. I apologized for seating myself after explaining to him that I was trying not to pee all over myself. I ordered a pink lemonade. The drink was so tart you could hardly drink it. I also ordered a bowl chili. When the bowl came to the table I noticed there was additional raw onion and lots of green peppers. The dish was bought to me with at least 15 chucks of jalapeño peppers on top and stirred into the bowl of chili. I ate three spoons and thought wow this is spicy. But, when I stirred the bowl I saw all the peppers I didn't notice before. I called my server to the table and told him about the meal. I SHOWED him all the peppers I picked off the top. I paid for that meal, I gave him tip and I told him I intended to write this Yelp review tonight. That was my first and last time ever going to that overpriced restaurant. read more

I couldn't understand why she would risk her tip to be so mean and rude but when we got our check a 20% gratuity was automatically added. So she really had no incentive to give us good service. This isn't a place that felt welcoming to me. This is a relaxed restaurant with a big board for daily specials. HogsHead is a bit expensive for my blood. I had a chicken sandwich and fries, neither of which were good. My husband had the wings, they're big whole wings and he enjoyed them. The bbq sandwiches to him was just okay. It was his birthday so he indulged in their bread pudding which he enjoyed minus the raisins. The ice cream on top was also good. I wouldn't return but trying a new place was fine. read more

This was the worst service I've had in a long long time. Waited 20 minutes to get seated. Sat for 45 minutes with menus and no water. I had to say something just to get water. I went to one of the servers inside and asked if I could see a manager. He gave an attitude and asked why. I explained our situation and he said "well I don't know what to tell you because I have my customers" I responded, "thats why I'm asking for a manager." Another friendly server intervened and brought me to the manager. I wasn't rude, I understand maybe being understaffed and busy, but this was unacceptable. Absolutely zero communication. My girlfriend and I visited Richmond for a weekend getaway. Before arriving, we researched the best BBQ spots in the area, and HogsHead consistently received excellent reviews, so we decided to plan our lunch there. To note, the only thing we had eaten so far was a Starbucks coffee. Upon arriving at HogsHead, we encountered a 10-15 minute wait. Once seated, our waitress promptly took our drink and food orders. We ordered an appetizer and two entrees. After approximately 30 minutes, I decided to set a timer. Unfortunately, it took another 30 minutes before our appetizer arrived. During this time, we inquired with our waitress about the delay, and she explained that an influencer had visited the restaurant and ordered a large quantity of food, which was causing the delay. When our appetizer, chili fries, finally arrived, it was mediocre at best. We then waited an additional 15 minutes for our entrees. The cheesesteak was excellent. However, my girlfriend said her pulled pork sandwich with mac and cheese was bland. Nearby, a large party was also upset by the delay. They had arrived before us and were still waiting for their food. The owner approached them, but his tone was unprofessional and dismissive. He didn't introduce himself and simply stated, "Well, everything is fresh and it doesn't come out of a box." In total we waited about 1hr 15 - 1hr 30 for our food and wasn't until we directly asked that we received an explanation for the extended wait. It became clear that the restaurant prioritizes influencers over paying customers. Given the lack of customer care, we will not be returning to this restaurant. read more

We have been Hogsheaders for quite some time. We love the menu and especially the sides. I believe that we take home an order of sides to-go most visits. (You know, when your eyes get bigger than your stomach. The only time we try to avoid dinner there is when live music is playing and we can't get an outside seat. That's our only "gripe" but even at that at least the music is good. We have really enjoyed every time that we have been whether upstairs or downstairs we have been treated with kindness from all of our servers and hosts! read more

The food is okay/good. But the service is hella racist or at least the worst service ever based off what you look like. Ive been here 3 times. The first was by myself and 2 other white people, and it's was okay. The second and third time was with my fiancée and then other friends. The second and third time was slow service, they even ignored us, and it took 30min to order food even though one of the times was at the bar. They have rbf, maybe even RCF, and we will never will go here again. They suck, they need to hire new people or management, and they need to get better at front facing service. Late lunch on a Friday afternoon. My smaller pulled pork lunch plate was okay meat, fries and baked beans. The pork lacked a smoked taste and needed a good amount of sauce on it and beans were a very small cup considering the price of the lunch plate. The wedge salad was good and the patty melt sandwich was good. My French fries were served hot although crinkle cut is not the usual for a bbq place. The service was prompt and friendly. Watch out if you order a limeade as the large is in a quart jar with a lot of ice and is 9.99 and not refilled. My bad for not asking the price since it wasn't on the printed menu. Everything was delicious and the portions for some items were generous, but the price point for a few items were a bit higher than expected. The giant pretzel & cheese and the Patty Melt are good. My burger was cook over temp. If you ask how I want it then you have to come through with it. My wife only managed to eat half of her sandwich and my son removed the pork bbq from his Hog Burger to finish it. Tots and onion rings are good also. I do like their sauces for the bbq.
