This is our second time at the Campbell House, and we were hugely impressed with the new chef/owner. The previous operation was solid, but unmemorable and a higher price point than delivered. Ordered the pork belly and beef short ribs and thought both were amazing. Best dinner out in a long long time. Meat was so tender that you could cut it with a fork and wonderful flavor. Great value for excellent fare. Great and friendly service. Overall delicious and will be returning to eat here again. read more

My boyfriend and I came here as we were in town for a concert and wanted to stay close to the amphitheater. So glad we chose this quiet bed and breakfast! The house is beautiful, the rooms are cozy and the staff are friendly. The train didn't wake us at all so I guess maybe its not as loud in the main house. Our breakfast in the morning was delicious. One of our favorite b&b's. Great rooms and surrounding grounds. Breakfast is usually buffet style which isn't my face but they do it well. And they will special make you breakfast if you request it, so that's always an option. They also serve dinner which has always been very good. read more

We stayed here for a nice night on the way to visit family for the holidays and were extremely pleased with our stay! Greeted at the door with a glass of wine and a smile, Campbell house was kind enough to upgrade us to the Gabriel room. The room was everything you could want after a winter travel day, warm and cozy with a lovely fireplace and whirlpool tub. Bed was also extra cozy, and would have slept like the dead, except we forgot to turn the heat down. In the morning we were treated to a complimentary homemade breakfast in the quaint dinning area. Because we were traveling on a Monday we had the place all to ourselves and it was extremely peaceful. All in all, it was much better than the cheap hotel we were considering and 100% worth the extra 20 bucks. read more

What a lovely place!! We are road tripping through the US for 3 months and when we got stuck in traffic on our way to Portland we decided to spend the night on the road but in stead of a standard motel we wanted to try a nice B&B for once. And did we hit the jackpot! Not only did we get a room upgrade (we arrived late) but also we got a complimentary glass of wine and the most amazing breakfast the next morning. It was a beautiful day so hanging out in the garden the next day was just amazing. The owner was so friendly and made us feel very at home. The only downside was the wifi which only worked soso in the room. We would definitely come back here! read more

I needed to be in Eugene for business and pleasure recently and was put up at the Campbell House Inn. Lucky me! What a lovely bed and breakfast! The rooms are so cozy with gas fireplaces that really warm the room! Loved the jacuzzi tub as well! The breakfasts were yummy... A different breakfast each day! The staff could not have been more accommodating and friendly. It's also walking distance from great shops and restaurants! Dinner at their restaurant was equally amazing. We had the Salmon Marsala and the Short Ribs. Chef Brett's ribs are the most tender I have ever had! I would highly recommend this wonderful establishment! read more

We have been going regularly to this restaurant, and we have dined, truthfully, all over the world. The wait staff here is superb...professional... all the international etiquette you could ask for (our favorite wait person is from Peru, and quite experienced, savvy but still friendly and down to earth.) The head chef truly knows his business, sources locally,almost daily, and executes his meals with perfection. Last night I had a filet mignon, perfectly medium rare with a nice crisp crust, garlic potatoes, and lovely braised greens. I asked for just a bit of the carb and lots of spinach,and that's just what I was served. Also, he made a blue cheese sauce for the steak which was just enough-just right. Pretty presentation, too! The atmosphere here is the most lovely in Eugene. An old, charming and well maintained large house in the old part of town with wood burning fireplace in the dining room, bay windows, and classy, understated table settings with linen and nice heavy flatware, Nothing "snobby" or"over the top" here...just an inviting, warm and beautiful restaurant! p.s. I stayed at the Campbell House Inn with my husband and teenager since we were going to a nearby Pumpkin Patch (an annual event for our family). We live in Washington state, but drive through Eugene about once a month on our way to visit family on the Oregon coast. I was excited to try something new, besides the normal corporate hotels we stay in. When I called to make the reservation, the girl on the phone was very helpful! I told her what we needed and she assured me the room we were getting would accomodate our family. I asked her for several price point options, and went for the nicest as a treat for our family. I was told it was a two bedroom suite. I tried looking up pictures online and couldn't find more than one, which didn't really paint an accurate picture of what it looked like. When we arrived, the girl at the front desk walked us over to our room (Room #315, the Stephan). Along the way, I asked if there were any cool facts about the history of the room or the house she could tell us (for the sake of my daughter who was very interested). The employee didn't really seem to know much, other than it was built in 1892 and that the main house was said to be haunted. Okay, no big deal, she was nice otherwise! When the three of us entered the room, it was obvious right away that it was not a two bedroom suite. It had one bedroom and then a very small living room with a pull-out couch. The decor was very early 90's chic (meaning 1990's, not 1890's, which might have been nice given the setting). The bathroom had a trailer park style shower in it. Overall, it looked cheap and rundown. There weren't enough towels for the three of us, so we called down to the front desk and were promptly given more. So, despite the less-than-impressive room, the service was good. However, later on in the evening, we realized that we hadn't gotten the wifi password and we needed a wine bottle opener. When we called down to the front desk, the phone just rang and rang. We then called the after hours number provided and it too just rang with no answer. Our needs weren't dire, so we just went to bed. Then the train rolled through, blowing it's whistle repeatedly. I'm not sure where the train tracks are in Eugene, but it sounded like they were right outside our window. This happened multiple times during our stay. In addition, there was a lot of noise from the other rooms around us and just outside our building. It was loud! I can't believe I didn't see this is other reviews before I booked the room. In the morning, when we woke up, we went to have our complimentary breakfast. It took us 20 minutes to even have someone come up and take our order! If it was busy, I could have understood it, but the staff had seen us and told us to take a seat whereever we wanted in the dining area. There was only one other guest in that area and he wasn't eating- just working on his laptop. When the employee did finally approach us to ask what we wanted to drink, she was very short with us. I asked if they had mimosas, and she snapped back that our options were orange juice or water. I thought this was weird because I remember free wine being a part of the package of staying there. When she came back to take our order she said our options were pancakes or eggs. We all chose pancakes. What was brought out to us after a long wait was pretty sad. I was looking forward to the gourmet meal they had talked about on the website and what we got was nowhere close. So, basically, I'm giving Campbell House Inn a less-than-positive review because I feel like they don't live up to the reviews I see online. They definitely don't warrant the pricing and star rating! We will not stay here again on our drives through Eugene, and frankly, it will be a while before I'll be able to talk my family into staying at another b & b after this experience. read more

We stayed here overnight when in town for a concert. Huge disappointment. Our room was the size of a closet- we were literally bumping into each other trying to get dressed. The room had a tiny full sized bed which was ridiculous for two grown adults. We got horrible sleep and ultimately one of us ended up sleeping on the floor. The breakfast was good, but we waited over a half hour for it to come out which seemed crazy when there are only two options and handful of people in the dining room. Finally our meal came, but then there was no one around to ask for water. The grounds are cute and staff was nice, but we would never stay here again. Very disappointing. read more

New owner/chef has a long way to go to come close to Willie's, the one it replaced. Wait staff totally untrained in serving etiquette. E.g. Soup to be eaten with TEASPOON; white wine served in huge red wine goblets; when ordering a bottle of wine, gentleman's glass filled before the lady's, for filet no inquiry how well it is to be done; with fixed price set menu bill was presented before the forgotten dessert was brought out; faster eating diner's plate cleared while rest of the party still eating. As for food, very spotty. Lobster bisque was watery and tasteless, second course mushroom ravioli store bought and uncooked on edges, a vegetarian entrée was a huge portabello mushroom stuffed with mushroom-nut pate, this followed the mushroom ravioli as the next course. Just too much mushroom. Being a fixed menu, there were no alternatives. Presentation was very good except for the portabello dish which looked like a dark browns pile of "waste". In the regular fixed (non vegetarian) menu the main courses were very good. Ambiance is great but piped in "dinner music" very disturbing, a mix ox non descript jazz. read more

I am giving this B & B two stars because I am sure there are better rooms at the inn. However, if you stay at the Campbell House, be aware that the Cogswell Room is not going to provide a lovely experience. There is only one thing I really, really need from a hotel, and that is a good night's sleep. Unfortunately, the bed in the Cogswell room appears to have been cobbled together at the very last minute -- it is visibly starting to collapse at its foot, and squeaks like crazy every time you attempt to move in it. And you will move in it, because the mattress is so soft that it takes a very long time to get comfortable. I am still trying to move past the lower back strain. Also, there is a trip step from the bedroom to the bathroom. My toe has finally healed, thank you. And the clawfoot shower is lined with a plastic cocoon that makes showering feel like being digested. And the hoteliers should advise guests who book Cogswell that the floor above squeaks quite as much as the bed does, and that restaurant employees will be stomping on it well into the late hours of the evening. Oh, and the bathrobe had a broken belt loop. A small thing, but five-star hospitality environments don't overlook small things, and the Campbell House does. I should also point out that, had breakfast been better, I'd have completely forgotten to write this review. Unfortunately, it was pretty sad. A flavorless scramble (not the way I like eggs but the other choice was plate of starch) with some bacon (good) and a small scone (tough -- was it microwaved?). Our daughter got married here last summer and the food was terrific, but I'd forgotten it was also a restaurant open to the public. We had dinner there this evening - one of the best meals I've ever had! My husband, whose idea of a compliment is "It's not bad" actually thought his meal was fantastic. He had the salmon (magnificent) and I had the braised short ribs (my God were they wonderful)!. The service was spot-on and the ambiance cozy and welcoming. I had the pleasure of dining at the Campbell House for my companies annual Christmas Party. The atmosphere was great but what really separated them from other places I've been is the food. They had a Chicken Marsala that was to die for. I seriously thought I died and went to heaven after my first bite of it. The chicken was tender and pounded to the perfect thickness. The sauce they used for it was creamy and had the perfect amount of Lemon added to it, not to mention the capers are always a nice finishing touch. Not only was it one of the best Chicken Marsala I have ever had but they provided it for a party of over 30 people. Can you say impressive? Everything else they provided was delicious as well. Quaint, clean, and conveniently located within walking distance to downtown and Skinner Butte Park, we had a lovely suite at the bottom of the stairs. Sara, our breakfast server, was awesome and the cheesy grits with eggs breakfast delicious. Unlike the Chehalem B&B where we were given attitude for wanting to sit on our own, this place had plenty of seating options without the pressure of having to share a meal with total strangers. Marvelous historic house turned bed and breakfast! The owner is the gourmet chef as well! The location is right on top of downtown, close to all the fun places including the UofO for visiting family or game days. Rooms like the Eva suite come with jacuzzi included along with your four poster bed! All the high class amenities are there as well. Other rooms are equally classy I'm sure. Gardens surround the house and there's plenty of outdoor seating as well. The wine and beer selections are always changing, always offering a new selection of local brewers and vintners. And the food is amazing! Breakfast is included, but lunch and dinner are equally worth every bite! We had the Cactus salad which was one if the best salads we've ever had - great combo of ingredients with wonderful flavors. Also a delicious soup and tapas. Campbell House Inn is wonderful and welcoming to the weary traveler. The location to downtown is just 3-4 blocks and it has everything you need: comfy bed, deliciously soft sheets, complimentary beverages in the room fridge, a glass of wine and breakfast! (Wine at breakfast - hmmm, that's a thought.) What more would a traveler need? Maybe cookies and homemade scones - well, they have those too. I recently stayed at the Campbell House for my wine country wedding. Many of the out of town guests also stayed here. My room, in the carriage house was large and comfortable. Breakfast was good, morning #1 banana pancakes (awesome), morning #2 eggs Benedict and morning #3 breakfast burrito. They put out fruit and granola, juice and coffee then the cook makes you the special, but if you want something else (fried egg or oatmeal) they happily make it too. The staff was very helpful, we had a really good experience and it was so nice to eat breakfast with my whole family! In the evenings, Willie's restaurant served up great food that you could eat out in the garden while drinking wine from the restaurant or whatever you picked up in wine country that day. read more

This place is gorgeous! My hubby and I stayed for one night, booked the room the same day for about $100. As we arrived (on a Tuesday) there was an outdoor wedding in progress on the grounds. The background of a historic mansion built in the 1800s, with beautiful gardens, a gazebo for two, was simply decorated with white linens and flowers. There was a "bluesy" grassroots type of band playing and the staff was serving cold lemonade. It was quite a site as we walked to the lobby! The gal at the front desk was great! We stayed in the carriage house, and our room had a private entrance. The room was super clean, beautifully decorated, had flat screen TV, A/C that worked great! The bed was super comfy, quite high my husband had to help me up, but we slept like logs. The bathroom was clean, it had a tub with hot tub components, and it had a separate shower. They offer dinner, they provide you with menu for that day and time it will be served. Breakfast was great! They serve you coffee, tea, juice, homemade mini scones (delicious!), and they make two breakfast specials from which you select one for your breakfast. Portions are small but filling. Overall great B&B, great staff, and great service. Walking distance from mall that has eateries and shops. We did hear the train in the afternoon, but we slept so comfy we don't know if the train was in service at night. We would definitely stay here again! read more

Campbell House was my favorite part about my first visit to Oregon! It is located just up the street from downtown on beautifully landscaped grounds. Free wine, cozy rooms with awesome old-school amenities (LOVED the claw foot tub/shower and avocado sink!), and the breakfast and dinner service is top notch. Every staff member I encountered was sweet and professional, like you are a real guest in their house. I know some other reviewers mentioned the train noise, but it is distant, unobtrusive, and I actually thought it added to the experience. When I had to cut my stay short, they promptly refunded the extra days, no questions asked. Do yourself a favor and check out this gem! read more

My husband is a chef so we don't eat out much but when we do, it better be awesome. We had dinner at The Campbell House and it was the best meal we have had out in a long time. We were really impressed with the menu and decided to order a few small plates before dinner.We had the Thai Mushroom Spring Rolls, Spanakopita and Albondigas.The Albondigas was my favorite, it looked like a meatball and it was full of flavor. They were all really good! We shared the Braised Beef Short Ribs since we were slightly full from our appitizers and I wanted room for dessert!! The short ribs were cooked to perfection and so tender. We loved them!! We had chocolate cake for dessert (and when I say "we" I mean "me", I didn't give him one bite). We were really impressed with the whole meal and it was such a romantic setting. We will definitely go back for another date night. I'm going to try the Pork Tenderloin...to be continued... read more
