We live quite close to this restaurant and we've tried several of the items on the menu, but the only thing I personally order is the pizza. I always order the same pizza, the same way and every time, they pull the same crap. Here is how it goes, EVERY TIME: I order a large, well done, cheese and onion pizza with EXTRA ONIONS. Now, I am fully aware of the additional $1.75 I'm paying to add extra onions. I don't mind paying for the extra topping, but I expect to RECIEVE the extra topping. I'm paying over $3.50 just for onions alone! Yet, they are sprinkled on the pizza as though someone requested "easy on the onions." Come on guys, I could buy 3lbs of Vidalia onions for the money I'm giving you for onions on my pizza! Yet...it's a struggle. There have been other incidents, but the point is, it shouldn't be a crap shoot. Consistency is the key. (one of them) It's not that difficult to keep a customer happy. *Friendly, courteous, service. *Receiving a quality product. *Getting what you paid for. That's it. But it has to be all of those things or the bottom falls out. In my experience, the people at Campanella's (at the front take-out counter) have been very kind, courteous and understanding. As well as the girls that have answered the phone. (Although I will say, I get this feeling that there's a fog of fear in that place. It's weird. It seems as though the staff are under the thumb of a dictatorship. They don't seem to have any autonomy. It seems they operate with hands tied and every decision comes from above. Like they want to help you but they can't.) Anyway, the restaurant seems to be neat, organized and clean. The staff is professional and kind. We are longtime customers of Campanella's, following the owners from their previous restaurant because of the high quality of their food and service. The quality of both have slipped a lot in the last year. Tonight we did a takeout of several pizzas for a houseful of guests and were sent home with subpar pizzas. The green peppers on one were charred black, the on all tasted bitter and the cheese toppings were tasteless and a spinach pie was over cooked and soggy. To make matters worse they forgot to pack the spinach pie and we had go back to get it. Disappointed and after some 25 years as regular customers we are not going back. read more

An Italian gem with great service and even better food. I try to get here at least once every couple months to get the number 14 calzone. Always fresh and the environment is local and relaxing. The service is on par, most of the waitresses seem to be well versed with the whole operation and it flows well. Great food....the exact menu as Big Cheese on Reservoir Ave, which has been around much longer. The only difference is the hospitality.... Campanellas is not the friendliest place. For take out you can't use debit cards unless its over a certain limit. Bartenders have no clue about beer or cocktails. And ownership has no problem if you never return. So do not cause any problems and go to Big Cheese. read more

After hearing that campanellas is the daughter of the big cheese I had to try and see if it measured up... Whenever I go to big cheese I get the same old thing- the salad with tuna. I tried it here at campanellas and hey, it was just as good! Their dressing is my absolute favorite, and I took some home with me too. My son loved his pasta and my boyfriend got a grinder and he said it was good too! I must say the other great part about our visit here was our waitress, Candace. Really great restaurant! Delicious gluten free pizza with vegetables! Newly changed their dough and it is one of the best I have had. The calzones are always very good, as well as the regular pizzas. The pasta dishes were tasty and a hit at the table. The waitresses were so friendly and kind, especially for a table full of babies/toddlers. I ordered the hot turkey sandwich and the pasta and chicken parmigiana. Both were excellent! The turkey was baked on site as advertised. Juicy and tender and lots of it, the sandwich can with cheese and lettuce and was served hot. Turkey is hard to find in RI and this was the best yet. The chicken parmigiana was also excellent except that the tomato sauce was very heavy. almost a BBQ sauce. I would have prefered a more milder sauce, but that is personal preference. The chick was tender and again here was plenty. Tey offer several pasta choices, but no whole grain pasta. The parmigiana came with a salad which was very large, contained several types of greens, carrots and very aromatic onions. Bread was also included and again it was excellent. The menu says that the bread is baked on site andI believe it. Prices were good especially considering the portion size. I ordered take out which was ready when I arrived. I work in Cranston in a gourmet restaurant and had asked my co-workers where there was good pizza in the area. They each told me of different places near the restaurant, but no one mentioned Campanella's. I tried all the places that they mentioned over the next couple of weeks, but was not impressed with any of their suggestions. Finally, one night I was heading home, driving down Oaklawn Avenue and spotted this restaurant. I decided to give it a shot, and I'm glad I did. Campanella's is a quaint little eatery with standard Italian fare, friendly service and quality for the price. I really like their thin crust pizza, it has a very flavorful sauce and the crust is crisp and tasty. But it's the calzones that you come here for. They offer many different choices and after trying one the other night, I can see why they won Best Calzone in Rhode Island a few years ago. read more

My fiancé and I happened upon this little gem out of sheer laziness one night, I was 9 months pregnant and didn't feel like venturing too far from home. Let me tell you, I was hooked!!! We have since gone back 4-5 times and every time the food is amazing, the waitresses are amazing. My only complaint would be the hostess area. They don't seem to have a very organized way of keeping track of who comes in before who and we've found ourselves having to interrupt when customers who came in after us were about to be seated before us. read more

Campanella's is packed most nights and for good reason. The food is delicious and well priced. It's a nice family restaurant. I like it here and don't mind the sometimes bossy waitstaff but I could see someone not from "Western Cranston" taking this regional attitude the wrong way. Believe me, they're not rude, they're just Italian American. I always build my own calzone, but the pasta dishes are all really good too. My advice is to order the bread sticks. I stopped in for dinner with my family on Saturday night with a few guests and wanted to share my experience on Yelp. It was absolutely amazing! The restaurant had a fairly basic menu specializing in Calzones, Pizza and Pasta. I've been to countless restaurants like this, so I didn't really have any lofty expectations. At the beginning of the meal, we were served home baked bread with a unique butter that was hand-whipped with honey. Very unique and absolutely amazing. I looked around at other tables and saw other standards - chicken parm, spaghetti with meatballs, calzones, pizza, etc. The actual food, portion sizes and presentation were impressive and extremely appetizing, We ended up ordering a few pizzas along with a few pasta dishes to try. Everything was perfect...from al dente pasta to the crisp yet chewy crust on the pizzas. The "Dean's Favorite" pizza is one of the best pizzas I've ever had. This is not a "fine dining" experience, but hearty, home cooked and delicious comfort food. The restaurant interior was very clean, the decor was updated and the general ambiance was very cozy and inviting. The wait staff was attentive and friendly as well. We really enjoyed chatting with the owners, who were very warm and happy to answer our questions about the food and the restaurant in general. Overall, we couldn't be more enthusiastic about recommending this place. The only downside to our experience is that we want to be regulars here but live all the way in New Jersey! read more

We decided very last minute to have dinner around 5:30 on a Saturday with a party of 8+ 2 little ones...of course that would be overwhelming! They took it in stride and seated us in two booths that were relatively close to each other. My greek salad with chicken was HUGE (they offer a large and a small and I only ate about 1/2 the large) and the homemade dressing was delicious. Our waitress was lacking.... as she didn't check on drink refills and I literally had to ask for bread THREE times. I just wanted some bread. How can one not love Campanella's? My partner and I have been visiting this restaurant for many years, and though we no longer live in RI, we make a point to stop in when visiting the state. I always "make my own calzone" and my partner always gets fish. It always comes out fantastic. This restaurant is one of my favorites in the surrounding area. I'm Italian and know good food and Campanella's consistently offers very good family friendly Italian food and pizza. Service is friendly and efficient. It's loved by the locals and usually always busy on weekends. Best- tasting multi-grain dough option for their calzones and pizzas. I'm from out of town and met the owners Richard and Sabrina on my flight into Providence and they suggested I check out their place. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, the staff is extremely friendly, my server Jen was great, and the food is phenomenal. I had the Italian Wedding soup as a starter and it's the best I have ever had. The spaghetti and meatballs were delicious and the fresh bread with their special butter was a treat and a half.
