Last Friday, 8/14, I called Campanella's because I wanted to eat at their restaurant for lunch with my cousin. I have a rare syndrome/disability where certain types of lighting exacerbates my symptoms. I called the restaurant around noon and asked if I could eat at one of the tables in the bar area because the lighting is much less harsh for my eyes. The girl who answered the phone told me it was no problem. I told her I'd be there at 12:45. When I arrived at 12:45, they had given away both tables at the bar. I told the hostess I had called ahead of time and re-explained my disability. The owner also asked me what the problem was, but refused to accommodate and said there was nothing he could do. I told him I called to ensure I had a seat where I knew I wouldn't be sick, but he still told me there was nothing he could do. I've been eating at Campanella's since they opened. Went back a few weeks ago. Took my parents and our children. Again had great drinks, great service and AMAZING food!! Stopped in here to grab to-go this past Thursday. I don't order here super frequently, but I do love their pizza and calzones with choices of white, wheat or seven grain dough. They have a take-out only special two-fer deal Tuesday through Thursday - two large cheese pizzas for $14.99 with an additional $1.25 a topping. Makes for a cheap dinner with plenty leftover for lunch the next day. Crust is the thicker variety with a nice crispy underside. The cheese can be a little lean but the other toppings are always generous. I usually do take-out but the dining room is nice with a bar that always has a few people enjoying their meals with a beverage. The bar would make a nice spot for a quick bite before a movie on date night or for a meet-up with a couple of friends. Service can be spotty. The good waitstaff is great, the mediocre staff is, well, mediocre. Take out window is well-run. I stand by the two-fer deal as a great reason to check this place out. read more

Met friends for dinner here tonight. They have a great selection of calzones pizzas and Italian style dinners. I selected a chicken tender calzone with roasted red peppers and feta cheese. It was absolutely delicious. Our waitress was Attentive and got our order in a timely manner. It was busy considering it was a Wednesday night. We never felt rushed or lacked attention from our waitress. She kept an eye on us and offered more drinks when she thought we may be ready. The restaurant was clean, and I will definitely return. Okay, so this is a guilty pleasure that is not very high brow. I really like this place (about 3.5 star) because they will make anything into a calzone and they are not afraid to dump a salad on pizza for the vegi crowd, hand them a fork and tell them to have at it. So I did mean what I said about the Calzon's. They have like 20 on the menu. Then, they will also make any grinder into a calzone. I also saw a huge salad walk by they the waitress pointed out was a pizza. Freeeeeakkkkky. So everybody in Rhode Island realizes that calzones are part of the basic food groups. Pretty much everywhere you go you can find a tray of party pizzas and calzones. Everyone has their favorite place to get one or the other, and sometimes this has been known to split families( not really) but trying to emphasize how important. calzones are to Rhode Island. So if you haven't guessed this is my go place for calzones, the menu is vast it doesn't have just calzones it has pizza and your other classic American Italian fair but calzones are pretty much the reason I come here. Lots to choose from the menu has like 30, you can add edit and subtract as you like, plus having different types of doughs, so yes you can do whole wheat with broccoli, mushrooms, peppers and onions and be healthy or you can be the opposites and have meatballs, sausage pepperoni and ricotta. Also there House dressing is great, downfall a house salad is way over priced and basically just lettuce, but I love the dressing! Also I saw like other people said if your like me and you like a salad and a calzone do the stuffed Greek it's the best of both worlds! read more

I was highly recommended by coworkers to try out this Italian eatery in Cranston. Expecting amazing Italian, my husband and I trekked a pretty good distance to get here. Once here, we concurred on how the location is really poor. It seemed to be in the middle of nowhere on a sad looking street. The decor was extremely bare bones with picnic-style, vinyl-covered tables. We were very underwhelmed by the uninspired menu items as well. They appeared to include garlic bread, pasta, pizza, hot grill sandwiches, and calzones...all basic and nothing gourmet. Almost all of the appetizers were just different variations of garlic bread. We figured that garlic bread must be popular and good here, so we ordered some topped with grilled mushrooms, tomatoes, and melted cheese. Okay.. I must admit that these were delicious! We both ordered wheat calzones with broccoli 'n sausage or chicken 'n sweet peppers, respectively. We appreciated how the calzones weren't too doughy and the bread itself seemed very fresh and thin. The calzones were enormous, though, and could really be split into 2 meals each. Overall, although the menu seemed boring, we were satisfied with our meals. If you go out of your way to eat here expecting white glove service and innovative gastronomy, you are going to be extremely disappointed. If you're looking for an "eatery," you should probably avoid Campanella's altogether. Campanella's is a divey, casual, neighborhood Italian joint. The service ranges from friendly and attentive to surly. The portions are generous, and the food is basic: pizza, pasta, calzones, sandwiches. It's not fancy, not is it particularly healthy. If you're on a gluten-free diet, don't come here. You'll be able to eat the salad (you'll have to pick out the croutons). There's no fancy wine list, or craft beers. Have a Gansett, or the house red wine. All that being said, for what it is, Campanella's is a decent little neighborhood Italian joint. read more

I don't eat in here, but my family and I have been getting takeout for years from Campanella's. This is my favorite pizza in the world. I can't explain why it's so good, but there are spices and a blend of cheese they use that just make this place so unique. The eggplant parm and lasagna are equally as incredible too. My friend's wife makes one of the beat lasagnas around, and her comment was: "I think Campanellas' rivals my lasagna". Now THAT is an endorsement,...trust. I see YELPers complaining about the chicken parm; if you want chicken parm, go to The Post like a real Rhode Islander, son (#shotsfired). For pizza, eggplant parm, and lasagna, I couldn't recommend a better place. The calzones and sausage & rabe are tops as well. Have been to Campanellas many many times. Today was an awful experience. I had the eggplant calzone. I cut it in half and one side had one piece of eggplant. When I showed our waitress she talked to the kitchen, then said the kitchen manager made it herself and there was 4.5 oz., then when I asked to speak to the manager, he didn't come out the kitchen manager did saying she takes pride in her work. I stopped in here one night last week with the whole family. It was a bitterly cold January night, and as we walked in, the warmth and smells were very welcome. The interior was cozy, reminding me of Uncle Tony's but a half-notch better. Service was amazing. Our waitress was a slightly older grandma-type who certainly knew the menu. She doted on the kids, and her suggestions for entrees were informative. We had a calamari appetizer - other places can sometimes overcook it, making it too rubbery, but here it was just right. We ordered pizza for the kids, half pepperoni and half spinach. It was a surprise hit because sometimes they can be rather finicky with their toppings. The crust was very nice as well. We also ordered a chicken parmesan, which wasn't breaded, but still flavorful and very much enjoyed. The tomato sauce was unique and tasty, almost a prerequisite for a good review because it's sometimes the only distinguishing criteria for Italian restaurants. We finished with a shared dessert, a peanut butter concoction from a Bindy's menu. It was okay but not memorable. I've seen a lot of other negative reviews of this place, but I encountered none of the problems discussed by them; in fact, I experienced the opposite. I've been here now half a dozen times between eat in and take out. It is convenient with decent parking and about 25 tables and a full bar. They also have a counter dedicated to take out. I find the food to be basic with one stand out exception. Their bread for their sandwiches is very good. They toast it up and it is crispy on the outside with a soft warm center that soaks up the sauce. The calzones are made from the same dough and are good as well. Beyond that the menu is limited and basic without much innovation. All the appetizers except one are garlic bread based. They always seem to be busy. The service is not great (though Candy does a very good job). Overall, a good value. read more

I visited Campanella's today and I have to say I haven't had a meal like this in a while. I ordered the Pene pasta with a meatball, a basic dish, but it was the best I've had! Spinach was a little under seasoned for my taste, a sprinkle of crushed red pepper and a dash of salt fixed it. They offer white, wheat and whole grain dough. Went last week while out holiday shopping. Can't believe the lack of management and the chaos in this restaurant. In addition to a forgotten round of drinks and a pasta pizza that came out ICE COLD, my server was basically non existent. As I walked by the kitchen, the chefs were audibly YELLING at other staff members. Tremendously unprofessional. I've never felt so uncomfortable at a restaurant. I will not be back. Rude and ignorant. My wife and I have been eating here for years. For years we have been told by the staff that my daughter could eat there be they do not use eggs in anything. She finally gets the courage to eat at this place and the owner/manger refuses to serve her. They told her that they do not serve people who have food allergies. Apparently, they discriminate against people with food allergies or they are just too ignorant and uneducated that they cannot figure out a way to accommodate people with allergies. Tried this restaurant for the first time yesterday and it definitely lived up to the hype. Started with a vegetable soup which was better than any vegetable soup I've ever had. Then we had this melted feta dish with fresh house made bread for dipping. It was AMAZING. For an entree I made my own whole wheat thin crust pizza that really sold me! Overall great experience.
