On a quest for the best wings, my journey brought me here to Maria's. A humble spot that has you feeling like it's been here a while. Adorable but kitchy pizza signs decorate the walls and stacks of Pepsi products surround you. Walk up counter service here, but there's a few tables to sit and enjoy your food. We got a large pepperoni pizza and Thai peanut wings. The pizza was a solid pie. Nice sauce, good cheese, crust is chewy but still a little crispy. Above average for what you find in the state. The wings were decent. They were fried hard enough to get that snap you need in a breadless wing. They're not a jumbo wing by any means but you don't feel like they're scrawny. The sauce was good but pretty basic to me. With a few tweaks I think it could be excellent! I would get their wings again but try a more traditional sauce to see how they compare. I didn't get any ranch or blue cheese with it so if you like your dips, make sure to ask when ordering. I've been here a few times now and each time I leave satisfied. It's on my list of spots in Cranston permanently. I came here because of the RI Food Fights event: Lord of the Wings

half onion and half broccoli and onion

Truly thin crust which is hard to find around here! We got half cheese and onion and half broccoli (for the vegetarian in my life). It was pretty good although it was kinda cold by the time we ate it (not Maria's fault). My boyfriend wished the crust were a little more crispy. All in all a true thin crust pizza. I will be back to try more exciting toppings next time and eat it while it's still hot!

Spicy garlic

RI Food Fights Wings Review: This is your typical neighborhood pizza store. We ordered the spicy garlic wings. Way more spicy than garlic. My taste buds wouldn't allow me to eat a second. Pretty on par for pizza place wings.

Loaded Tots

First time coming here. I came with a few friends and let them decide on the food we'd eat. We ended up getting a small bacon pizza and loaded tater tots. These wouldn't have been my first options since from previous experience at other places, bacon on pizza is usually undercooked and tots can have a freezer taste. None of these were true for this place. The small bacon pizza is a good portion for sharing with one other person if you're looking to get 60% full or by yourself for a full meal and maybe feel a bit stuffed (results may vary). The cheese is good. There isn't too much sauce where other toppings are clouded. The crust is perfectly crunchy but soft. And, best part was the crispy flavorful bacon. The loaded tots were all really good. They had nacho cheese and a healthy (or rather unhealthy) amount of bacon. Simple but great flavor. Prices here are reasonable and they have a good amount of options on the menu, with some unique items that I would want to try next. The food came out at a reasonable pace and the workers are friendly and patient. There's plenty of indoor seating with a clean environment. There's a parking lot which is good but my only observation was that the handicapped parking is poorly placed where if someone is parked in the spot next to it, the handicapped car can't physically get in or out.

Walnut Brownie

Stop #9 on RI FOOD FIGHTS 11th Annual Lord of the Pies!!! Good for a cheese pizza and add toppings at your desire... I got a cheese pizza with roasted red peppers, green peppers and mushrooms... And an incredible chocolate walnut brownie! They were fast friendly and will definitely be back in order pizza on the go while I'm out driving!

Solid underside

Stopped in here Saturday in an attempt to circumvent and avoid the Elmwood Ave traffic jam on 95N. Nothing too special about their small cheese, it's your standard strip plaza pizza. Heavy on the sauce and piping hot (give it some time to cool off!) it's not bad but it's not great either. What I'd call a college student late night pie for sure

You can call ahead or place an order online for delivery, pick up, or eating at the restaurant. The person I spoke with over the phone was so nice and answered my questions as I was placing the order. He had everything packaged up and ready to go when we arrived and was very pleasant. We wanted to try both their pizza and wings so we ordered a large pizza and two orders of wings (teriyaki and Thai peanut) The pizza looked amazing and tasted great and we liked that they cut a round pizza into many smaller squares - a perfect size for the kids! The wings were juicy and they were generous with the sauces. They offer 15 different sauce options and the two we tried were very good. We also ordered a large Italian grinder, which came toasted - yum! Based on our experience today, we would definitely recommend this place.

Sweet and spicy chicken Wings

On Google this pizza joint shows up as a convenience store so I thought there was a kitchen in the back... which would be okay, but Maria's is right next door in a small lot right on Pontiac Ave in Cranston about a half a mile from Sockanosset intersection. Although I didn't stay there to eat I could have: 2 big TVs and smelled like pizza. I ordered their most popular spicy and sweet wings using my #RIFoodFight #LordoftheWings passport. Wings were crunchy and good size. Mostly drummies. The sauce was on point with a good kick and sugary sweetness, but since the meaty wings were nicely sauce tossed no need for extra sauce and the pool the wings bathed in. The wings weren't dry, they were cooked perfectly but a little too fried for my taste.

We were delivered soggy undercooked fries. A small cheese pizza shouldn't be that hard to make. They put way too much cheese on the pizza and also undercooked the dough. The delivery guy let the pizza slide or sit at an angle so half of the cheese slid down the pizza. We got mozzarella sticks that weren't bad, but they had the marinara free floating in the bag so that ended up on the floor and made a mess. I wanted to give someone else a shot for pizza, these guys will not be on my list.

It's over-the-counter ordering, with pizzas another option, and more importantly, you can also get beer to complement your wings. -- Buffalo Wings: From the first visit, some of the best I've had in a long, long time. Not the biggest (I'd say right around average size), but they nailed every aspect, from the piercing tartness of the sauce to match the spice, to the butteriness, to the crispness of every surface, to the tender and juicy interiors on every piece. If that weren't enough, the blue cheese tipping sauce was also spectacular, with noticeable sharpness and lots of chunks of real cheese to go along with the creamy liquid. They matched the buffalo sauce nicely. -- Loganberry Wings: From the second visit, a Buffalo regional sauce mixing raspberry flavors with barbecue sauce. The result is a mix of sweet and savory in a rich, full-bodied sauce with plenty of oomph and plenty of cling. It's sweet for sure, but its barbecue sauce component cuts it and a dip into some ranch cuts it more while adding a little something. I loved the sauce. The wings, though, were a little bit smaller and a little bit dryer this time. Still very good. -- 716 Mulberry Chicken Fingers: Also from the second visit. Nothing like Chinese chicken fingers; more like a chicken tender, and more still like a chicken cutlet. Three flat pieces in the small order provided minimal thickness, but a decent amount of meat, spread out. The Mulberry sauce has a Buffalo base with some additional secret seasonings and other ingredients to change the flavor a bit. Not bad, but I think I'd go straight Buffalo next time. Tender inside, but no crispness outside. This includes fries, which were a very solid McDonald's facsimile. Notable: Easy parking in their own lot. A minimum 25-minute wait for wings, so plan accordingly. Friendly, helpful counter people. So two visits, one great, one very good. Some memorable sauces and some memorable presentations. I'll be back to see if they hit great again and get bumped to a 5.

It's a place tucked into a strip off Atwood ave with an open floor plan. Theres a bar along one end of the room with stools and a fair amount of low top tables for hanging out. Everything from fries to burgers to chicken sandwiches to wings. With a lot in between. I got the pretzel bites and 12 honey BBQ wings. The pretzels were YUM! Perfectly salted, warm and served with a stone ground honey pub mustard. The wings are not breaded, with I like. (The tenders are breaded fyi). They bake them, fry them then sauce them so they're super tender. Frankly I want to try all the sauces!!! I got the "everyone likes" version this time so I could share. Next time I'll go for heat and do buffalo. They have 4 tiers, mild, medium, hot and el diablo. Oh baby. I don't think I'm that adventurous.... Yet. The waitress was super nice and accommodating. It was trivia night and very busy, she handled the WHOLE place with drinks and food. Hats off to her for sure. She handled it with a smile, grace and wonderful attitude. A few others got nachos, beef chili and a friend chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries. Each said they were very good. All in all this place has my business for take out wings going forward and the Wednesday trivia. Thanks Coop, nicely done. CHEERS!

Everything is so well put together that you expect something a little more corporate. Then you walk inside. And it feels like a neighborhood pizza place. Friendly people. Easy hospitality. Families at the tables. A big menu over the counter. The kind of place where people seem comfortable being there. It is also ridiculously clean. Not "clean for a pizza place." Hospital clean. The floors, the tables, the glass, the counter. Everythin Then the pizza showed up. At first glance, it looks familiar enough. Nicely browned cheese. Pepperoni with some crisp around the edges. A substantial-looking outer crust. Spotless. Then the pizza arrives. Flip the slice over. That is where Sako's really starts explaining itself. The bottom is beautifully brown, with darker patches from the pan and enough crunch that you hear it when you bite through. Sako's follows some of the Greek pizza playbook without really eating like Greek pizza. The pan. The browned cheese. The substantial-looking crust. The sturdy slice. All of that feels familiar. Then you bite into it and the comparison starts falling apart. The crust is much lighter than it looks. Airy inside. Crunchy underneath. Crunchy around the outside edge. Really satisfying on both sides. It has structure without weight. That crust is the foundation of the pizza. But the sauce is every bit as good. Herby, flavorful and really tasty, with enough personality to stand right beside that crust instead of disappearing underneath the cheese and pepperoni. That is where Sako's really separates itself for me. The crust gives the pizza its structure. The sauce gives it its voice. Sako's uses a mozzarella and cheddar blend. I am not much of a cheese guy, so I am not going to pretend I sat there trying to break down exactly what each cheese was doing. What I can tell you is that the sauce, cheese and pepperoni all play nice together. Nothing is fighting for attention. Nothing gets buried. It borrows some of the structure of Greek pizza without becoming the style. That is the best way I can describe it. One other thing caught my attention before I ordered. The gluten-free options are hard to miss here. They are featured prominently on the menu, and there are gluten-free brownies, brookies and other snacks sitting right at the counter. I asked about the gluten-free crust because they clearly are not treating that part of the menu like some obligation they had to check off. That tells you something about the place too. Sako's describes what they make as hand-stretched pan pizza, and that description makes more sense once you see the bottom of the slice and feel that contrast between crunch and airiness. The gluten-free crust is more of a South Shore bar pie. Crackery, crunchy, thin. A lot of pizzas are built from the top down. This one feels built from the bottom up. The crust is the foundation. The sauce is just as strong. Everything else knows its role. And the whole thing tastes like it belongs together.
