In town for work and was looking for a place to grab a bite after work. I found The Shanty on Yelp. The moment I opened the door I was greeted, by the owner, with the most upbeat personality and smile! She showed me to my table, brought a carafe of water, and welcomed me in. I was quickly welcomed by Sergio, my server, who shared the special and the soup of the day. Once I ordered my soda I took in the ambiance of the bar, new lights, and the rest of the restaurant. It's not a large building but they make every inch count. Now, the reason you're reading this review- THE FOOD. I ordered the Hot Honey Chicken Sandwich with a Caesar Salad. The chicken (photo below) was perfectly cooked, topped with hot honey, slaw, pickles, and ranch then placed on a soft brioche bun. The meal was reasonably priced as well at $33 which included tip. Cute spot! Stopped in with a friend after work on a Thursday. We got in quickly without a reservation but I can see what people are saying that if you are going on a weekend during peak hours that you should make a reservation as it isn't a huge restaurant! Our waitress was very nice and patient with us while we took awhile to order. I got the grilled chicken sandwich and my friend got the ceasar wrap. The fries were great, sandwiches were also really good! Would like to come back and get one of their main dishes as they all sounded pretty good. My girlfriends and I wanted to celebrate my birthday at a new place and heard the Shanty had amazing food and service... as we waited for the rest of our party two of us sat at the bar and instantly felt comfortable as Kaylee greeted us we had an amazing espresso martini which was amazing as the rest of our party joined us we went to the table and our waitress was Karen as she introduced herself and left my party instantly commented that she was cold and felt we were a bother The appetizers we amazing the chef is top notch as she told us the specials I asked her what was better the sirloin or the strip and she said it's the same cut of meat I said no it's not she continued to say it was I proceeded to not argue as I know it isn't the same cut because the strip is tender and fattier and a sirloin is a more lean cut and they come from two different parts of the cow . We are in the business but go out a lot and love experience of new trendy places and we actually felt very uncomfortable by karens "hospitality ". I spoke to Kaylee again before I left and didn't realize she was also a supervisor. She was so warm and we felt so welcomed and also noticed that Karen was more invested in talking to customers at other tables and the bar than our table was off putting. My experience here was highly enjoyable. It was late and I was fresh off of travel, I sat at the bar. I hadn't eaten so I ordered a bit of everything with the waitress recommendation. The Mac and cheese was delicious and a bit garlicky. It was the breadcrumbs but worth it. The flatbread was more of a personal pizza than a flat bread and it was hot honey and delicious. The TV dinner, which changes seasonally, is certainly playful, and the Salisbury steak, mashed potatoes, maple carrots, apple crumble, etc. was a hit. The fish and chips, fried chicken sandwich, and burger were all somewhat predictable, but they were also all well executed. The thick beef patty had all the expected accoutrements, the fish was tender and flavorfully battered, and the rustic cut fries appeared hand cut. My son loves tartar sauce, but didn't care for their version, which contains artichokes. Our server steered us toward the comfort food, rather than the salmon or statler chicken we were eyeing. So I am in the industry and was searching for a local place to make a regular spot. What a beautiful place. I think I may have found it. Came in and was immediately greeted by Sergio and Kaylee. The informed me that I made it in time for 1/2 off apps. The buffalo wings were amazing! Sauced perfectly with a nice crunch because I asked for them well done and they definitely made them perfectly for me! I ordered the NY strip and informed the dynamic duo of my mushroom allergy, they were kind enough to let me substitute the risotto for the Mac and cheese. The steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare, the Mac and cheese had a breadcrumb topping and was phenomenal. I enjoyed a few drinks, my favorite was made by Kaylee, it was the cherry limeade mule, beautiful presentation and such a great taste. To finish the night Sergio informed me that the desserts are made in house, I had the espresso cheesecake. My dad has always raved about this place. I think it was alright. Service was casual, not really necessarily friendly, in my experience. My dad had a salmon dish I didn't get to try but it looked crispy and delicious. I was not too peckish so I ordered calamari & caesar salad for my meal. I had a diet coke + lime. The lime was rotting brown and gross so I just put it on the table. Small things matter. Calamari was okay but chewy and after it cooled a bit, it was incredibly tough and inedible. Caesar was dressed well and chopped finely which I always loooove. I wish it had anchovies! Next time I check this place out, if I do, I think I will try brunch because I have heard nice things about it. read more

Chose this place for their lobster roll, which did not disappoint! It was full of tender, sweet lobster meat that was perfectly accented with lemon, celery, and a touch of dill on a toasted brioche bun. The accompanying fries seemed housemade, with the skin still on. My coworker tried the skirt steak with asparagus risotto, which he really enjoyed. The cinnamon blondie was dense and buttery, not too sweet but too rich for me to finish. They were a solid choice and I'd it a 3.5 out of 5~ the Korean lettuce wraps were delicious! They have great apple slices and the beef was savory! I like ordering interesting cocktails and I got the Tea & Peaches drink, and I can guarantee it was strong~~ worth the cost~ The waitress was kind and the food was a bit of a wait. We were sat down quickly due to open outdoor seating. We ordered sweet soy fried chicken wings, bacon and Brussels salad, and Korean beef lettuce wrap. Sweet soy chicken wing was crispy, savory and juicy. It was a bit on the sweeter side. Korean beef lettuce wrap was refreshing and flavorful. Apple slices were a nice touch. Bacon and Brussels salad was okay. I felt that dressing and goat cheese was overwhelming and could not taste the flavor of Brussel sprouts and bacon. Overall the place was good and service was decent. If I were to try again I would definitely try other dishes they offer. However I felt that food and portion did not justify their prices. We were freezing because we were so close to the door. We got sweet soy wings, Caesar salad, a chicken sandwich, and a big ole burger. The food was mediocre, nothing really stood out. The wings were extremely sweet - the sweetness actually over powered the wings. The hand cut fries were the best thing on the menu. I was disappointed because it was not worth an hour wait. We came here for a Sunday brunch. The parking lot was small and packed, and there is an adjacent lot their signage points you to if it's completely full. The menu is kind of small and I like that. Small menus reduce "analysis paralysis". The alcohol menu leans more towards wine than beer, with multiple choices for alcoholic coffees. We ordered the Lobster Roll and the Eggs Benedict ... ...with Lobster, lol. A long time ago, I read something somewhere online about how the lobster rolls are really good at the Shanty and I bookmarked this place with a note "lobster roll", and so finally we found ourselves here. Anyways, both are delicious. The lobster roll was on burger buns with some slaw and sauce. The eggs benedict: lobster works very well with the gooey egg yolk and cheese and biscuit. We felt that both portions of lobster meat were very good, and enjoyed the quality of it-- not too fishy. I also think I prefer eating lobster on a burger roll than the usual long sub rolls that they are found on. For drinks we got two of their boozy coffee cocktails. I think they are ok (3/5). I was greeted warmly by the host when I arrived. I was seated right away (no wait at the time but it definitely got crowded). The waiter was just as friendly. The food was fantastic. I treated myself to a bloody Mary and the lobster benedict (since I live in a landlocked state, I had to indulge in the good stuff). It was a relaxing Sunday brunch. Not once did I feel rushed.
