    a slice of pepperoni pizza

Second leg of today's RI Food Fights "Lord of the Pies" was Tom's Kitchen in North Providence. It's a cute little spot with a HUGE menu to seating ratio. They just started serving slices, so this was a way to test out the waters. Slices were hefty in size and weight. Pepperoni was cuppy, as God intended. It was good, New York style with a slightly off-putting sauce, a little too much cheese for me and a nice, golden brown crust. Overall a 5.0 score for the cheese pizza and 5.5 for the pepperoni. The garden salad with house made vinaigrette was an 8.5 , however and is a good reason to come here. There's a large menu, and I would give this business another shot on a sandwich based on everything I saw, smelled and ate. It's a nice little business with friendly people. Try it out.

3.5. Some of the pluses it was very cheesy. The sauce was garlicky and it was a decent sized slice. Not as good, the crust was ok and the bottom of the pizza was soft and doughy. I like a nice crispy slice. It was also super greasy. The inside was like a typical pizza joint. The service was ok. We needed to wait 20 minutes for the oven to heat up before putting in our order, even though the place opened at noon.

Their calzones are super super good and filling. This time I ordered fish and chips and it was ehhhhhh. The fish looked from a frozen pack and not much flavor. The fries were popping but the cole slaw was also ehhh. The veal pesto burger was pretty good. I love pesto so I love it on almost anything. So good They were pretty fast with having the order ready and there was ample parking :)

I ordered the 'Shroomy Grilled Cheese, and it was next-level comfort food; gooey, earthy, and perfectly balanced. Our server, David, made the night even better. He was attentive, upbeat, and genuinely kind; an overall great spirit with a fantastic attitude who elevated the entire dining experience. David even brought us some of their popcorn, which was so delicious and such a fun extra touch. We loved the food, we loved the service, and we will definitely be back; highly recommend.

The pizza was ok, could have been cooked like a moment more. The Shroomy grilled cheese for me was the best thing on the menu. Hubby said the steak was just meh, but he is fancy, we take his reviews with a grain of salt, LOL... The decor and vibe of the place was great! Its big, misleading from the street, but there are rooms, and hallways, and more rooms! Super cute, but it does get busy, Make a reservation. I've seen on social media that people complained about the new location having mainly street parking - we both found parking easily on the street - quit yer b*tchin' people lol. Besides I believe they have a lot behind the restaurant that we didn't have to use but it's there if needed. We were the only ones there when we first walked in but more patrons came in as the night went on. Made our way to the bar and orders were flowing - one warning if you're sitting at the bar, it is an open kitchen so there will be alot of aromas flowing through and may get on your clothes but really it'll just remind you of how good the food was. Also, the barstools are not the most comfy - metal stools with no backing so after 2.5 hours, we were feeling a bit achy. We ordered way more than we should've but everything just looked so good! We got the croquettes (our absolute fave), the cauliflower, the pizza du jour (I think it had spinach, pepperoni, ricotta and garlic) and for entrees we got the fish tacos and the Orecchiette. Not one complaint - everything was divine. Croquettes were melty, smoky little nuggets of heaven and our favorites bites of the night. The pizza had a great balance of flavors and the crust was thin and crispy. We were so full but had a few bites of the fish tacos and pasta - the fish was cooked to perfection and the aioli it came with topped it perfectly. Pasta was different - had a scallion cream sauce that was a nice change up from your typical Alfredo. Don't sleep on this place - the street is busy being on a main road but so well worth the visit, I didn't catch our bartender's name but he and a few other servers were super personable and friendly - gave us just enough time in between meals and personal space to not hover. Absolutely will return!

The food itself was good. I particularly liked the falafel as I felt they were very moist. I will say that either they need to fill the bowls more or make the bowls smaller. The portions seemed tiny. Even though it was a Sunday for lunch we were able to find a table quickly. The table was a little dirty but nothing too surprising and when I was finished with my bowl an employee asked if I wanted him to clear my space for me. I thought that was sweet.

Tables were sticky and trash cans were overflowing. Even after small rush and everyone cleared out no one cleaned tables, took out trash or restocked. Plus didn't even get a pita for my bowl. RI food fights brought me in and you don't get access to the whole sandwich menu here, unfortunately you have to pick between their "Mushroom Bahn MI" and their "Screaming BLT". I went with the BLT since I wasn't feeling the vegan option. The description was "chili-hoisin glazed bacon | sliced tomato baby greens tomato jam | dill pickle pickled red onion chipotle aioli toasty thick-sliced white bread". Honestly, it was underwhelming. It had some tasty components but it was pretty average. The bacon was terribly weak. It was probably frozen precooked bacon that is heated and brushed with a hoisen glaze. I was hoping for some thick cut glazed almost candied bacon. Their avg. sandwich was around $16-17. If paying for that, I'd be left pretty disappointed. On top of that, it probably took around 35-40 minutes to get the sandwich. Again, pretty okay sandwich, the pickled onion, tomato jam and Chipotle aioli elevated things, but it's in vain with the bacon they use. Their other sandwiches sound good, so it's possible I'll visit to try them out at some point but can't see myself running back here after my impression with this BLT.

We couldn't not order the absolutely delicious & HUGE side helping of home fries. The breakfast sandwiches were hearty & satisfying. You can tell they rely on fresh, local ingredients where they can because the flavors pop in that unpretentious, "this is real food" kind of way.
