Apparently Lauren's birthday is a pizza festival now. For Day Two, I met up with her at The Pizza Nomad in the Center of New England because they have a new pizza called the Detroit Slim. I had questions. Mostly about how something this thick gets to call itself slim. We ordered one cheese and one pepperoni and settled in. Then we saw the pizza, and suddenly Detroit Slim made sense. The answer is geometry. It isn't slim from the side. Not even close. It's slim from above. Instead of the big rectangular Detroit-style pizza most of us know, this thing is long and narrow, cut into four substantial pieces. I immediately loved the size. It gives you everything I want from Detroit-style pizza without requiring what sometimes feels like a contractual obligation to an enormous pan of it. Four pieces. Manageable. Plenty of pizza. But the crust is what got me. Look at the picture of Lauren holding up that cross-section. That's the story. The inside is almost absurdly soft, smooth and airy. Big pockets run through a light, pillowy structure that looks nothing like what you're expecting from the weight of the slice in your hand. Then turn it over. The bottom is golden brown, blistered and crisp enough to make noise. That's the trick. You bite through this loud, crunchy shell and immediately hit something soft, smooth and almost delicate inside. Crunch, then pillow. The two textures shouldn't occupy the same piece of dough this comfortably. But they do. And around the perimeter, things get even better. Cheese escapes down the sides and meets the hot pan, leaving behind those dark, crispy pieces hanging off the edges. The stuff that looks almost burned in the pictures? That's treasure. The sauce has enough presence to survive everything happening around it. You still taste tomato beneath all that cheese, crust and rendered pepperoni. The cheese itself is really good, with enough flavor to be more than just the thing holding everything together. And that pepperoni was fantastic. Some cups. Some curls. Some lies flat against the cheese. The edges go dark and crisp while the centers render their fat into everything underneath them. There is a point with pepperoni where "burned" and "perfect" become separated by about thirty seconds. I like living dangerously close to that line. Pizza Nomad does too. There is also, for reasons I cannot explain, a full-sized medieval knight standing guard over the pizza. I respect this. If you're going to make an inch and a half thick pizza called Detroit Slim, there is no reason a knight can't stand guard over it. The Detroit Slim is a collection of contradictions. It's thick without being heavy. Soft and seriously crunchy. Small enough to feel manageable, substantial enough that nobody is going home wondering what we're having for lunch tomorrow. But I keep coming back to that crust. That soft, smooth, airy interior. The blistered bottom. The cheese cooked hard against the edges. Crispy pepperoni on top of all of it. Every layer has a different job. And somehow, every one of them makes noise. Day Two of Lauren's birthday pizza week is in the books. At this point, I've accepted that her birthday lasts a week. I see no compelling reason to challenge this. read more

I've been to the other Nomad in West Warwick and this is just as good. They're both about the same distance from my house, but I'll probably go here more often as parking can get a little tight at the west warwick location when boomerangs is busy. Anyway, both are pretty consistent and are good. People have always been friendly too. read more

This has been a new stop for me recently for lunch and I love it! I have been getting the Oregon Trail grinder (chicken, barbecue sauce, cheddar cheese, bacon and onion rings). I always forget to take a picture because I am always in such a rush to eat it because it's so good. My favorite thing is their house made chips. (Perfectly crunchy perfectly salty) don't forget to order them! I look forward to my continued stops into Pizza Nomad and to try something new! read more

I've gotten The Pizza Nomad a few times now and so far it's been great every time. I really like that the pizza has thick crust, but not super thick crust. This time I got the fries well done and they were too well done for me, but that was my fault since I asked for them well done. I feel like the prices are very reasonable as well. I've tried pizza from this place three times in the time it's been open. I understand they have only just opened in the past month which is why I held off on leaving a review after my first few experiences have been negative. We had high expectations for this trendy pizza place offering an assortment of unique pizzas. My husband and I ordered pizza for a game night on the first night they opened. He called two hours ahead of time, but still had to wait 45 minutes when he got there. My husband said it was busy and chaotic. After he picked up the pizza and brought it to our friend's house, we were horrified to find a sticker on the underside of one of the pizzas. Our friend had taken a bite, and immediately spit out bits of paper which turned out to be an adhesive label on the bottom of it. Not sure how that got on the bottom of the pizza. We didn't call to complain, because we knew that it was incredibly busy that night. The second time we ordered pizza was a couple weeks ago. I ordered a vegetable pizza with spinach and several other toppings on it. The pizza was overloaded with the toppings to the point where it felt like I was eating a plate full of vegetables with a side of bread. I couldn't taste the white sauce, and there wasn't a lot of cheese. My husband ordered a gluten-free pizza. Because there aren't many pizza places in the area who offer gluten-free pizzas, we tried them again. His pizza was pretty good. The last time we got pizza was a few days ago, and we ordered the fried pickles and the nachos as a side. On the positive side, the portions were huge. On the negative side, they were grossly overcooked. We ended up throwing them out. We've been to the West Warwick location and have had better luck there. I sure hope Coventry location improves. I don't like to leave negative reviews, especially for a business just starting out, but hopefully they learn from their mistakes. We probably won't order again from them for at least a year so they can iron out the details and become better established. At that time, I'd be happy to update my review. read more

I've ordered take out from Pizza Nomad 5 times since they opened. The first two times my pizza was awesome. I got a bbq chicken pizza and it's done really well there. The third time I went, my pizza was over cooked and dry. I was not a fan. Having had two good experiences I went back and got a calzone instead. I didn't love it, but it wasn't bad. I felt there was just a lot more dough than filling. I went back recently for a pizza and I am happy to report that it was excellent. Every time I have picked up my order the person on the register has been super friendly. I will definitely go back when I'm looking for a pizza fix. read more

Finally made it here. Have been waiting. Food did not disappoint. Ate there and they gave us homemade potato chips, that were very tasty. Had Buffalo breaded wings, reminded me of hooters wings, just a tad smaller. May try them unbreaded next time. So many items on menu wanted to try, that have to go back. Pizza was good. Had regular crust, may try the deep dish next time. Nice little cozy spot to have a pizza in. Did not get impression of a new staff. read more

We have ordered multiple times and have not had a bad experience yet. Each time we try a new pizza, our favorite so far is the General Tso.

Wow the sub was the best one ever. My wife and I stopped and had one the best experiences at The Pizza Nomad. The staff were friendly and the Subs were amazing. The Italian sub we are was hands down was the best Italian sub I have ever had. The sub could easily feed Two and was loaded with fresh meats and the toppings were fresh and overly generous in size. Pizza Nomad is now on my list of dining and our family will be stopping by again soon. The sub rolls are baked on site and so are the potato chips made on premise and are freshly cooked to order. Pizza here is pretty decent. I think a few times on our business trips we stopped by Pizza Nomad. We ordered some Pepperoni pizzas with sausage, olives and pepperonis. It was good with some salad and nice drinks with them. I was happy with taste and all. Nice staff and wonderful peaceful area. Id come again. read more

The pizza nomad on centre of new England is a joke. We ordered a great divide with the backyard BBQ and Alfredo. I almost choked on a chicken bone. I call and the young girl manager gives me a bunch of bs. She asks me to send her a picture of the bone which I do and she tells me they only use tenders and it was just really hard skin. We then proceeded to the store to show her in person and she still claimed it wasn't possible. She talked to the owner and could give us a replacement but who wants that after a chicken bone. What if a child had choked on that? You are going to try to tell them it's hard skin? Will never ever order from there again. Would put all no stars if I could read more

I can't really rate it one star, mainly due to pretty good service. The food on the other hand was rough. The taco nachos were bland. The meat did not resemble taco meat. The diced tomatoes were furthers from ripe. Picking up a whole nacho and dipping it into sauce - almost impossible. The pizza was awful. The dough tasteless and partially uncooked. I tried to order a pizza the old-fashioned way yesterday, you know, by phone, and was told they no longer take phone orders, and must be ordered online. I spent 40 seconds describing the pizza I wanted to pick up, and then realized I was talking to a robot. "We're sorry we cannot process your order." After a while, a real person came on and told me that AI and automation is taking over as all orders will be online. I told them to stick it and that I will get my pizza elsewhere. So, I went to Rufino's. Nomad's just lost $25 worth of business, and MY business permanently. Pagliarini's is another place that does things the old-school way, which I will also continue to patronize, and their pizza is much better. I can't see small things up close very well, and it would have been difficult to order online through the phone, since I was in the car and didn't have reading glasses, and was not in front of my big-screen computer. Technology has gone too far, and does not belong in the pizza business. They have symbolically replaced the traditional image of the old-time Italian chef tossing the dough, to a robot. read more

The music in this establishment was extremely bad and horrible and overall very depressing and poorly chosen. I was unable to enjoy my meal whilst the ear splitting songs played in the background. If you are considering in dining in, be sure to expect to be bombarded with a country pop catastrophe.
