Really not the best place to eat, but I always end up coming back. I got a mushroom omelette the first time and I could immediately tell it was frozen(one could tell that alone from the size of the menu), the mushrooms were extremely chewy; the hash brown too oily. I came back again with friends, and I got a veggie burger which tasted like it had freezer burn. The food takes a while to come out, and is pretty gross to be honest. Once again, I gave this place another shot at perhaps giving me a good meal. They are close to where I live and I have been going there for years. I will not be using them for take-out any longer. I received the worst tasting Thanksgiving meal ever! Do they taste what they make in that kitchen? The turkey seems to be turkey loaf. Plus I paid $36 for the meal and a slice of pumpkin pie! A bit pricey for me for sure. I complained to the cashier and he said oh places were charging about $58 for the meal that day. I bet theirs tasted better than this place! One time I got a turkey club sandwich. This was definityl turkey loaf. I almost gagged trying to eat it when I got home. What was the alternative. Accessibility isn't a problem as the diner's parking lot is huge and located right off of Sunrise highway. They are 24 hours and the quality of the food is good. Standard Diner faire with plenty of Greek options. They have plenty of booze options as well. The servers are fast and pleasant enough. The night we went was after 10 on a weekday. Wifey had the onion rings which she wasn't a fan of they were a little too breaded for her taste. I had a cheese omelet, hash browns, and wheat toast. My breakfast for dinner didn't knock my socks off but no complaints either. Me thinks the prices to be jacked. I'm a bit of a miser but I remember Diners being a decent cheap option. The service there during the day varies. The past 2 times I have Ben there as a party of 1 I have gotten the same waitress. She is horrible. She doesn't even come to your table to see if you are ok she will ask you if you need anything while sitting at a table. My drink was empty and eventually she looked up do you need another drink. When I live in Patchogue we went on most religiously on a weekly basis. We had to have Felipe wait on us he is the nicest waiter around very friendly soft spoken. However everybody who works there is nice polite friendly. they have the best matzo ball soup which they have on a daily basis many diners on the island didn't have it on a daily basis even my other favorite diner which I will be writing about. Now I'm in Connecticut and nobody ever has it. I don't understand why I am in Connecticut and I cannot find decent Greek food or matzo ball soup anywhere! You get so much food especially when you order a special or Dinner or Meal. U get Soup -AND- Salad... You are entree with 2 sides plus dessert along w/ coffee tea beverage. When going for a large meal and I always brought home soup, dessert, & 1/2 of meal... I always order the steak on the bone it came w/ 2 Stuffed Shrimp. Steak is always juicy hot fresh off the grill. Stuffed shrimp yes it has a lot of crab meat probably imitation but its good its never tasted OLD or FISHY! . If the other meal that's fabulous is 2 grilled chicken breast served on top of spinach w/ melted mozz. on top. Always juicy chicken, bubbly cheese. Get Soup 2 Nuts @ a GREAT $$ & bring home 1/2. So much food there's no way I could ever eat it all! When not going for a meal I get the chicken Slovakia / CKN gyro. I don't eat white raw onions ( hardly cooked ones either indigestion) BUT LOVE red ones ALL KINDS! i substitute & not a problem. No extra charges or BS. They make phenomenal OMLETS humongous & stuffed w/ cheese/meat & veggies! Delicious home fries toast! read more

I have been coming here for years. Especially after going out late night years ago. Now I am a family man and don't go out past 10pm ha ha. But will all seriousness I was having a breakfast brunch for my daughters 2nd birthday. I called last minute to get egg sterno's made for 60 people. 2 eggs each that's 120 eggs. They got the order at 10am and had it ready by 10:40am with a sterno of potatoes made for me as well. I was so happy and they saved me so much time. I had the party at 12:00pm. I went to Restaurant Depot and bought a box of pre-cooked Bacon and pre-cooked sausage box and some tin sternos to fill. I got all of the cooking done in one hour. my son cooked the bacon in the microwave and I cooked the sausage on the bbq. I went to the liquor store at 12:10pm. to get the prosecco and vodka for mimosas and bloody Mary's I quickly got all this done with their help. Thank you sooooooooo much. Your establishment helped me pull this off within hours. I really appreciate this. I will be ordering from you more. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU.......... The food is always great here. I've never been so upset by service, this used to be one of my favorite diners but I will not be returning now. I went with my boyfriend and a friend of ours and the waitress we had she had bright red hair and wasn't very nice to begin with and my boyfriend ordered a medium rare burger and when he got it, it was raw. Like it looked like it was cooked for five minutes and the inside was bright reddish purple. So I said something to the waitress and after waiting 15 minutes we finally get it. Normally I don't ever complain but the waitress took it as a joke and argued with me that it was cooked medium when we all saw it and it wasn't edible. When she got the manager he also argued with me and laughed in my face. I have never been so angry with service ever. I wish that I could give this diner zero stars but alas you can't. We have not gone to this diner in years but decided to stop here because it was on the way home. The bisque soup was disgusting. Almost like it was left from a few days ago. The salad was unremarkable. It was with the main course that the meal took a drastic turn for the worse. First the waiter didn't realize that I was out of ice tea. The glass was small (maybe 12 oz or 16 oz filled with ice) so it didn't last past the soup. Finally with the main course I asked for a refill. Big mistake unless you want to pay another $2.50 for a drink. The main course took a good 20 minutes from the time of our salad to get to us. Realize that this is at 10 PM and the place was maybe 1/4 full. Finally the meal arrives. My Romanian steak was a decent size but my wife's Rib Eye steak resembled the steak from the Flintstones. It was ridiculously big. Problem is that it isn't the size that matters. Her steak had zero flavor and was over cooked. Her medium steak was well done. My steak was so tough it was hard to chew. After 20 minutes the waiter finally comes back and asks if we want our food wrapped. No how was it or anything like that. You would have thought that when my wife said no with almost the whole steak left he would have questioned why but he didn't. He then told us that we got desert with our meals. After asking what flavor Jell-o they had and being told RED I went for the safe Jell-o option but they ruined that! It was frozen in the middle!!!!! Then came the bill. $51.00 for the two of us for inedible food. I was hoping that the cashier would ask how our meal was but she didn't. STAY AWAY FROM THIS DUMP!!!!!!! Dining here was a pleasant experience. My party was happily greeted with some delicious pasta salad to eat as we decided on our entrees. I ordered the matza ball soup and turkey cheeseburger. The soup was as standard as it comes but I enjoyed it as I always do. The turkey burger was very good! The buns it came with were a little much so I pushed those to the side. The onion rings that came with the deluxe were SO greasy I didn't even bother touching them. The fries were eh. They were flavorless and some were overly greasy. All in all I'd say this place is average. Not too bad not really standout-ish. I've come here a lot, and during many different hours of the day. Sometimes for breakfast, sometimes for dinner, or sometimes totally smashed after some very competitive bowling with my friends, and the servers are always really nice, that for sure never changes. I've ordered pickup from here before super late at night (cause they're open 24 hours!) and food is always ready real quick and the manager is a really nice dude. It's not the best diner I've been to (Peter Pan Diner in Bay Shore), but it's not bad. I'll probably end up here for some odd reason in the future, it's always there, old reliable. read more

Since we've had our orders messed up twice in one week from our usual diner, we were recommended to try California Diner. The owner who answered the phone was friendly and happy to take our order. Tonight (while I should say this morning, because it was 1am) my coworkers and I ordered dinner from here. Never heard of it. But it's a Long Island diner, what could go wrong, amiright? I ordered the roast beef panini and had added tomatoes on it. Was asked if I wanted sundried tomatoes, I said no, regular plain tomatoes. This went back and forth with the person on the other end of the phone a few more times. Oh well. Thought we got it squared away. Apparently not, I had hard unchewable (is that even a real word?) sundried tomatoes on my panini, I was VERY disappointed. So I tried to take them off, and of course all my melted Swiss cheese comes off along with them. Now I basically just have a plain roast beef sandwich with nothing on it. The roast beef was not entirely too flavorful either. I also changed it up and got sweet potato fries instead. Those were semi disappointing as well. Overall, as my first time ordering from here, I'd say I was disappointed. So for now, 1 star. This is not the first time I have been to the California Diner. Usually our meals are delicious , without incident..not the case this morning. It was very busy , granted, it was Sunday morning. But it is a diner and they should be as ble to handle it. My husband and I were served luke warm, soggy, tasteless challah bread french toast *(no cinnamon, no vanilla..just egg)..and uncooked bacon. He ate his, cause quite frankly because he was,starving and will eat anything..i could not. I returned it and asked not to be charged. They charged me for the coffee and juice..i dont know..i think this is bad business. Especially since i am a repeat customer. Normally, the food is great..worth the overpriced menu..nothing special, just good diner food. The diner needs to learn how to handle a crowd for breakfast! read more

Just know this: for people that live in a fifteen-minute radius, this is the place to go after a night out. Especially if you're from the area, "let's go to Cali" is immediately recognized as a colloquial statement. The service is often pretty good, except the server I had this time was evidently ill and coughing all over the food. While she said it was just her allergies, I did get sick that day and had to then take off from work the next. We are not from the area and we were pleased with our experience. The diner was very crowded ( which we interpret as a good thing), the service was very good, and the food was delicious diner food. Even the fountain soda was good- not flat and it didn't have an underlying chlorine taste from treated water. The bathrooms were clean and we had a good meal. The chicken quesadilla was one of the best I've ever had. Perfectly cooked with perfectly bite sized tasty pieces of chicken and the right amount of cheese, onion & tomatoes. Probably one of the best, if not the top diner in Long Island. I'm not kidding!! Where else can you have a five course meal (appetizer, soup & salad, main course, desert and coffee) for $13 to $15. And we are not talking skimpy servings here people. These are filled to the heap plates and the food is amazing!!!! I've been going to this diner for the past 6-7 years and they never disappoint. A very good place that is a great stop for breakfast. The service was outstanding. My coffee cup never made it to half full, somebody was there with a refill. The food was good. Had corned beef hash and don't think it was made on premises. The bagel was ok, but not to NY standards, more like the frozen ones you get out of state. Eggs, bacon sausage and ham were fine. Had high expectations since this place has 3-1/2 stars. I gave it 2 stars. Had the mushroom swiss cheese omelet with home style potatoes well done. Wow the entire meal had no seasoning. Bacon and eggs are goood !!! This has become my local family joint on the days when ya just dont feel like cooking but still having some good grub Service is fast and friendly .. I've eaten plenty on the menu here. Breakfast happens to still be my favorite they have such heaping piles of food that are yumm to the tum and the price is verry reasonable the mash taters are also awesome and the Pie/cakes are pretty darn good too. it does get crowded and loud on Sunday during brunch and lunch so dont go starving. all in all this place is not to bad so drop in for a bite read more
