Love this Diner! It is warm and inviting. The decor was very pleasant before the renovation and it's even more beautiful now. Back here while my friend was in town from Alabama. We went for breakfast as was a special request by my best friend's dad. He lives in the area and is a regular here and just loves it and this was where he wanted to start his birthday. And I understand why. The staff is lovely, and the food is simply delicious. Classic diner vibes, if that's what you're looking for, and it's all just been so consistent over the years. I got a Oreo milkshake and pancake meal to eat for dinner. The person who makes milkshakes clearly never seen one before because they used more milk then icecream Wich makes it liquid-y and what you sould do is more icecream then milk so it's thicker. Also not enough Oreo. Add 4 Oreos next time. ‍ Waitress was rude,impatient and distracted as hell. I haven't been here in a while and always like to stop in when i travel to Long Island. I like the renovated look. I got eggs, bacon and hashbrowns. I always ask for the hashbrowns well done because they tend to be undercooked. I ate the potatoes off the top. The staff was really nice and kept refilling my coffee. I miss diners. I'm not going to lie, it isn't cheap, but they give you soooo much great quality food. Ambiance was kind of nice with the subtle Christmas decorations. Our server was quick and a bit hard to understand because he spoke so quickly. However, he was very polite and accommodating to our questions about the menu. The diner was surprisingly packed on a Thursday night, but we were seated 'pon arrival. I note "surprisingly" and you'll see the reason why below with respect to the food I ordered.   I ordered The Greek Chicken Wrap and it was not very appetizing. My side of potato salad tasted like it came from a big bucket that sits in the kitchen for days on end - not very fresh. When I got home, it only took 20 minutes before I had to rush to the bathroom and expel everything I ate. It went right through me - horrible feeling.   This meal was not worth its $17 price tag. Also, the menu did not list that tomatoes were included in the wrap. If I saw there were tomatoes, I would have excluded them when ordering - because sometimes tomatoes are hit or miss and these ones missed for me. My father's meal came with a slice of chocolate cake and it tasted stale and not very moist, too boot. Overall, just not enough tender loving care when it comes to the quality of their food.   I recommend going across the street to The Irish Times Pub - much better option and convenient if you are in the area. read more

I love reputable Long Island diners. They serve menu pages worth of delicious from breakfast to late dinner. Unfortunately, I now live in Las Vegas which leaves me across the continent from the Long Island diners that I grew up with. When I returned to Long Island for a week to see my dad, I got to revisit the Long Island diner. The Holbrook Diner has been a local institution in the heart of the business district for decades. Although I lived nearby in the 1990s, July 21, 2023 would be my very first visit here. The Holbrook Diner has an ambiance that is both retro and modern. For example, a neon purple linear ceiling light and chanderliars compliments a faux wooden floor with plate glass windows overlooking Main Street, Holbrook. From the moment we sat down til we left, the service was commendable. The waiter was proficient in his job and never rushed us. In my opinion, it helps that the server hub and counter is in the middle of the diner. Regardless that the menu offered pages of choices, I was decided on eggplant parmigiana with spaghetti. Eggplant parmigiana with pasta has been my goto meal on my summer vacation on Long Island, as my reviews reflect. At a $21.95 price tag, it included a soup or salad. I ordered Manhattan Clam Chowder soup. I do not know what it is with diners and Manhattan Clam Chowder soup. Every Diner that I have been to has served me outstanding Manhattan Clam Chowder soup. This includes the Holbrook Diner. Before my entree arrived, I also savored house salad with honey mustard dressing that my brother presented me with. As far as my eggplant parmigiana with spaghetti, I was very satisfied. Many people will argue that the same dish is superior in an Italian restaurant such as Mama Lombardi's across the street. However, I would argue that that is comparing apples to oranges. My brother was not up for Italian food, my dad wanted something else, and I wanted Italian food, which led to the diverse diner menu bringing us into the Holbrook Diner. Both the portion and flavor were grand. This could easily make a two-parter meal. With the food, I enjoyed a couple of Cokes, which our waiter was on the eight ball in refilling. I am a fan of reputable Long Island Diners. The Holbrook Diner is one of them. read more

I would give 10 stars if I could! We had reservations at an another place near by for brunch, only to show up and be told they don't serve brunch anymore. We ended up leaving and found this diner on Google!! What a find!!! Even with 7 people and an infant, they sat us in under 10 min and Gus, our server, was absolutely awesome!! Stopped by this place before meeting a friend and had an amazing experience! The staff was so kind and easy to talk to! The diner itself was amazing, it looked very cool on the inside and outside. It was lovely to see how the workers knew some of the regular customers already. The food that I ordered was very good. I wished to try some of the desserts but I was way too full sadly. I would come back to eat some lunch here again and to try the desserts! My friend really liked the panini and would recommend it. One of the best diner experiences I've had. The decoration is gorgeous and classy, with the vintage diner feel. The service was fast and waitress was super friendly. Menu is huge and varied, but prices are good and it's not overwhelming. I got the brisket melt, the bun was crispy, brisket was tender, and it was charred perfectly. It was a little bland, but I asked for some barbecue sauce. They make all sauces in house, and the barbecue sauce was FABULOUS. The coleslaw was one of the only coleslaws I've ever liked. They have a good variety of desserts I'd like to try, and even the bathrooms are gorgeous. My friend going gluten free pancake, and he said they were the best he's had. read more

Went in for a quick meal and was very let down by the food. I had a burger expecting a nice diner burger, but received a tiny burnt patty that tasted off. I have high doubts that was actually 7oz. The sauted peppers and onions that came on it were cut huge and barely cooked. They were basically inedible and made the bun a soggy mess before the first bite. Soggy fries. My wifes sandwich tasted good but she swears she was sick all the next day from it. Flat soda. The sweet potato fries were good and so was the coleslaw. The place looked clean but I'm not sure on the kitchen status after my first experience. Ran $74 with tip so pretty expensive for two people. I'll stick to island lake. read more

Ordered egg, cheese and bacon, on a roll. Received an open faced (2 eggs, over easy with an egg placed on each side of the roll , 2 pcs of bacon on each side. It was impossible to eat. It was Monday and the roll was stale. Worse yet, food was cold, and I couldn't get a warm up for my coffee. Seriously don't come here. I got food poisoning about a year ago from here. The strawberry pancakes. Had to go to the hospital because I was deathly ill. My fiancé always loved this diner but I decided to give it another shot last night and eat there with him. I said to myself I wouldn't eat there again. This time he then gets sick. Came here for dinner with my boyfriend. I was craving a cheeseburger and fries, but didn't want fast food so I suggested Holbrook Diner. The older gentleman who sat us was very nice and personable. However, our server was not (David). We hadn't even sat down yet and he was already asking us what we wanted to drink- we just ordered waters. Then when we finally sat done and got the waters from the server's helper, David came back and asked again if we wanted drinks which we replied we just wanted water which he didn't seem pleased to hear. My boyfriend decided on having a burger as well and was just about to ask if maybe I wanted an appetizer as well when the server came again and rudely asked if we were finally ready to order. That turned my boyfriend off completely and we just ordered our cheeseburgers and fries. The food came relatively quick and wasn't bad. However, our server never came by to check on us to see how we were doing or if we needed anything, but checked on the other tables he had around us. Then, when we got the check our bill said that we both ordered a burger deluxe which is an extra $5 more than just a regular cheeseburger and fries. Neither one of us said deluxe, he just took it upon himself to ring both our orders in like that. At that point, we just were done and wanted to leave, so we left our server $4 on the table and went to the cashier and paid our check. The ladies at the cash register were very nice just like the older gentleman who sat us. I wish the whole experience had been as pleasant as they were, but it wasn't. Ordered my sons meal and it came out within 5 minutes and we asked for it to come out with our meals, the adult meals didn't come until 15 minutes later so my kids food was cold by the time ours came out. Food was not seasoned, soggy, and extremely sub par. Could've made better eggs at home and not put $65 for 2 egg sandwich and kids pancake meal. In and out within 30 minutes and felt extremely rushed, check dropped within 5 minutes of our food coming to the table. Planned on getting a cookie to go but decided just to get out of there. Husband and I decided to try a different diner and was not disappointed. Arrived on Sunday approx. 11:30am to a packed place but we were immediately seated. We both basically ordered the same breakfast and it was served in 10 minutes. We commented that it was the best diner bacon we ever had, quality cut. Perfectly well done. Everything on plate was fresh and tasty. The price was reasonable but coffee was extra. Our server was pleasant and hard working. Constantly refreshing our coffee. We found the diner to be clean.
