I haven't been here in a while and always like to stop in when i travel to Long Island. I like the renovated look. I got eggs, bacon and hashbrowns. I always ask for the hashbrowns well done because they tend to be undercooked. I ate the potatoes off the top. The staff was really nice and kept refilling my coffee. I miss diners. We don't have anything like this near me.

Ambiance was kind of nice with the subtle Christmas decorations. Our server was quick and a bit hard to understand because he spoke so quickly. However, he was very polite and accommodating to our questions about the menu. The diner was surprisingly packed on a Thursday night, but we were seated 'pon arrival. I note "surprisingly" and you'll see the reason why below with respect to the food I ordered.   I ordered The Greek Chicken Wrap and it was not very appetizing. My side of potato salad tasted like it came from a big bucket that sits in the kitchen for days on end - not very fresh. When I got home, it only took 20 minutes before I had to rush to the bathroom and expel everything I ate. It went right through me - horrible feeling.   This meal was not worth its $17 price tag. Also, the menu did not list that tomatoes were included in the wrap. If I saw there were tomatoes, I would have excluded them when ordering - because sometimes tomatoes are hit or miss and these ones missed for me. My father's meal came with a slice of chocolate cake and it tasted stale and not very moist, too boot. Overall, just not enough tender loving care when it comes to the quality of their food.   I recommend going across the street to The Irish Times Pub - much better option and convenient if you are in the area.

This has always been a reliable choice. Too many diners have some cranky old man at the cash register. Not here. The front people are so bubbly and welcoming. Same with the waitpeople. No request is turned down. I hadn't been here in years and was pleasantly surprised to see the new decor. I keep coming back.

Stopped by this place before meeting a friend and had an amazing experience! The staff was so kind and easy to talk to! The diner itself was amazing, it looked very cool on the inside and outside. It was lovely to see how the workers knew some of the regular customers already. The food that I ordered was very good. I wished to try some of the desserts but I was way too full sadly. I would come back to eat some lunch here again and to try the desserts! My friend really liked the panini and would recommend it. The salmon was full of flavor and I enjoyed the caesar wrap too!

Off the bat, I won't lie I got some "Applebee's" type feelings from the place, but I wasn't going to pass judgment on a place simply by how it looks, my mother taught me better! But granted you could probably argue that for a lot of American bistro style restaurants that try to have that hometown local feel to it with all the stuff hanging on the walls. Staff was incredibly friendly and attentive, our server especially, Alexa, really felt like she was going out her way to check in on us and how everything was which did feel nice. For food we started with the spinach artichoke dip, a classic and this one was just as good as I've had anywhere, but most importantly they give you plenty of chips! For entrees, I went with the Philly cheesesteak and my girlfriend went with the brisket French dip with mozzarella cheese. Both were delicious but I think my girlfriend beat me this time with her choice! The choice of brisket over a typical roast beef is an interesting one for a French dip, but I do love a good brisket and this one was certainly tasty. The Philly wasn't you're traditional cheesesteak either, but it scratched my itch (but do be warned that thing comes out HOT!). Both came with a deceivingly large basket of fries that were fresh and crispy and a nice salty to compliment to our sandwiches. I really enjoyed trying this one and they had a bunch of interesting specials that I contemplated trying too, which makes me eager to come back again and see what other new tasty options they might have in store!

Jeanne waited on us. She was extremely friendly outgoing and kind. She answered any of our questions about the menu and made some drink suggestions. Our food was served very quickly and the portions are huge. My son had a hungry man burrito and I had the Mac and cheese short ribs. I took home my Mac and cheese short rib and I am on my 3rd attempt at finishing it! My son's burrito was so large I wasn't sure how he was going to get that in his mouth. He was able to eat most of it. The home fries were nicely prepared and seasoned well! Our drink glasses were never empty. I watched the staff and they were constantly engaging with customers. You felt like you were visiting a friend's home. I watched them celebrate someone's birthday, greet regular customers and every customer was given a warm acknowledgment. I was planning on leaving then. I was a waiter once for many years, so I get it.. the tough, long hours. Some waiters have 2nd jobs.. The glares and side talk I received was so unnecessary. Again, I priorly asked the hostess and waiter if it was okay I sit for 20 min. Before they close. I feel like I want to puke now. Idc about professional service, or whatever it's called. I communicated that I would've found another place if they just told me that they're not taking sitters. Not nice. Never returning again. Edit: The reason why I felt like puking was because I was glared at while feeling bad about scarfing down my meal faster than I anticipated. Someone from the joint reached out (I presume the manager?).. said he witnessed it all. What a joke. -1 star

I had to go to the UPS store (avoided rude unpleasant character in Shirley), and saw Howard's Cafe. Looked it up here, seemed great. Went in, and greeted by really NICE people! And they have GLUTEN-FREE rolls! Caryn came to seat me and take my order. She was the BEST! She didn't know if the turkey burgers had breadcrumbs, so I went with the grilled chicken. I also decided that I deserved bacon, so got the Mary, Mary topping--bacon, mushrooms, and sautéed onions. Entrees come with a salad, which arrived in a bowl topped by another bowl, with two things of dressing and croutons on the side. Caryn didn't think that I could have the croutons, and she was right. The salad was iceberg lettuce, which I hadn't had in YEARS, lol, with tomato and red onion. And a shaker of BAC-O's!! Oh my. Hadn't had those in 30 years. Very salty, which explains why. There was a choice of skinny fries (boo), steak fries, or sweet potato fries. I got the steak fries, which were wedges. Yum! The grilled chicken was yummy and generous, the bun was TOASTED (yay), and the toppings piled high. So good! A tad dry, but Caryn brought me some mayo. I forgot to order cheese. Ack. This is a nice place, with a bar filled with convivial locals, a cheerful bartender, and the marvelous Caryn. There are booths and tables. The iced tea came with two slices of lemon! I was SHOCKED when I got the bill. SHOCKED. It was $20.06 for a LOT of food and an iced tea! I took half the sandwich home because I couldn't finish it. I did finish all the salad--and Caryn asked if I would like more (declined)--and all the fries. Astonishing. What a great value!! That seems so rare these days. I had looked at the menus of a couple of other nearby places. Very glad that I chose this one. Sad that it's not near me, but I'll be back.
