First time here and it did not disappoint! We were lucky enough to get a nice day for cinco de mayo so we arrived for lunch and ate outside. It was super quiet which was nice. Chips were swiftly brought out to our table as was our main dishes: cheese quesadilla, skirt steak and a burrito. Everything was absolutely delicious. My fiancé and I came here for dinner. We went around the start of prime dinner time, but we were seated promptly. Chips and salsa came out shortly after we sat down. The salsa had good flavor. To drink I had a blueberry margarita and my fiancé had a watermelon margarita. Both were great and not overly sweet. For an appetizer we shared the chori- fondue. The menu stated it was served with a side of tortillas, which we didn't get. Not a big deal..we dipped the chips into the fondue instead. For my entree I had the Baja shrimp tacos. They started off with good flavor but then in my first taco one shrimp still had the shell on it. I know that sometimes the shell is left on for flavor purposes, but not in tacos that one is bitting into. I then saw the shell was on another shrimp in my third taco. This was definitely a poor oversight and poor attention to detail as it wasn't on every shrimp. Eater beware. My fiancé had arroz con pollo which he enjoyed. The serving was quite large and he has atleast another two meals for later. Service was alright, but our server never came back to check on us. I should have written this review sooner. My wife and I are regulars here . We have been seated at the tables but prefer the bar. This is a festive establishment with great food, drinks and atmosphere. You are greeted with chips and salsa. Delicious homemade chips and authentic Mexican salsa. Not typical Tostitos salsa . The bartenders are friendly and accommodating , shout out to Maria! The BEST margaritas EVER. We have eaten virtually the entire menu. Tacos are delicious and authentic. We have enjoyed both hard and soft shell. Awesome seasoning, not to salty as compared to typical "Mexican" restaurant's Pollo poblano is awesome. Delicious authentic Mole sauce. Tonight we had the Enchiladas trio. 1 each chicken, beef and cheese. Delicious. Hot flavorful and fresh. We also had the tortilla soup with chicken. Probably my favorite dish. Loaded with chicken, cheese, chips. It's warm and flavorful especially in February! Although we enjoy it all year round. Upon opening, I came to this Mexican spot to grab lunch with my family. The restaurant was currently empty so it felt like we were the first guest. I requested seating outside and was happy to choose a seating of my choice. The outdoor seating is very nice with umbrellas for shade. The indoor seating is nice as well but it was a lovely day to enjoy some air. The staff was very pleasant and we had very fast service. I ordered the chicken and rice (which I have never ordered at a restaurant before) while my family ordered the Churrasco. We were served chips and salsa for the table which was very delicious. The chicken and rice had a mix of many flavors. I didn't notice this dish came with sausage so I did put them to the side after trying one (not a huge fan of sausage). Additionally, The churrasco was cooked in a way I had never seen before. My family stated it was okay and not bad. The churrasco came with beans, rice and sweet plantain. First time going to Don Quijote and it wont be the last. Very nice looking restaurant. Our server was great and very attentive. Margaritas were really good. We had the Flautas and Calamari for appetizers and they were great. I had the pescado dulcinea for dinner and it was amazing. Generous size portion of fish. My wife had the carne asada. When served it came out with 2 slim pieces of steak and some plantains. Looked just somewhat bare, but in looking at the menu after, you can order onions and mushrooms but you are charged extra for them. To make it more of an appealing dish they should serve it with that. She said it tasted good which at the end of the day is what matters most. Desserts were very good as well. Visiting from out of town and we're referred from locals. Location is set back but easy to find. They have a beautiful outdoor seating area to eat and inside is very cozy and warm feeling. We were greeted with swarm hello. The staff were all very helpful. We started with peach margaritas that were amazing and complimentary chips and salsa that were so good. I ordered shrimp in garlic sauce, my hubby ordered pulled pork chimichanga. Both come with rice and beans. Everything was so fresh, tasty and seasoned to perfection. Not sure if it was because my family is white but the waiter asked how many was in our party we said 3, 2 adults and an infant and then instead of seating us changed his mind and told us they wouldn't serve us since they were closing. It was an hour and 10 minutes before closing. The 2 hispanic gentlemen's who were sitting at the bar eaten were shaking their heads that they weren't closed and then said they closed at 10, It was 8:45. The Pollo con Camarones had no flavor... chicken unseasoned and the sauce tasted like nothing. Service was awesome, and like I said I'm sure they do some things better than others (the place was slam packed). But these items should immediately be taken off the menu. We ordered the mofungo appetizer without bacon and it was delicious, especially the sauce that's included! I could've taken a straw to it!! I decided on a skinny margarita and it was really light and refreshing. At $13 a drink, I was good with one! Only downside was we waited about 35 min from our appetizer until our meal. Our waiter was nice and apologized for the delay. We weren't in a huge rush so it was tolerable. They had a lot of big parties, so I could understand the wait. Our entrees were really good and generously portioned. My hubby got the pollo ala plancha which he commented was very tender and flavorful. It came with a small portion of white rice and beans. I got a make your own combination plate and chose a beef taco, chicken burrito and chicken enchilada. It came with refried beans, yellow rice and lettuce and tomato. I have been frequenting this restaurant for many years, even prior was it was under Messon Ole. The food and service are impeccable. I love when I'm dining they have a wonderful and sweet man play guitar and sing and take some requests. A few of the servers know us and know our preferences. Good service but the food leaves a lot to be desired. The chips were good but the salsa was like nothing I've never had. It was more like watered down Pace with a few diced vegetables tossed in. No flavor at all! Quite a disappointment. I ordered the Steak Milanese with rice, beans and maduros. While it wasn't bad it wasn't anything special. The rice and beans were the best part of the meal. I used to know everything, but as I grow older and wiser, as this world changes I find myself at a crossroads of things I just don't understand. One of those things is how Don Quijote could have less than a 4star average here on Yelp; I get it, they are expensive, but I have been here a few times with a plethora of people ordering many many many items off this rather large menu and the food is nothing short of just plain great. My biggest upset in fact, was tonight when my extremely nice and rather cute waitress put down my extremely delicious Ropa Vieja (not much to complain about) which traditionally is shredded beef but to me seemed like pork. Hey, eff me right? The Mofongo was delicious and the typical platter of chorizo, plantain, rice n beans, flank steak (substituted with skirt) and egg was stupid good. The perfectly medium rare steak alone was worth the $20 and then throwing a perfect runny egg over a delicious chorizo... what's there to complain about? Dreams are made in enchiladas Suizas and it earns its spot on the Don Quijote menu for sure. The Ceviche isn't the style I normally make or go for but it's still bomb af. Happy hour is home to $4 beers and $7 margs, the staff has always been nice and the kitchen has always been accommodating; the place is nice and decorated for the holidays. I see no problem living beyond my means sometimes and I have no problem forking over a little extra at Don Quijotes, it's well worth it for the flavor they pack into everything from the Salsa to the Entrees. I think the disappointment people feel with this place is the disappointments in their own boring selves, when you suck you usually don't enjoy much of anything and always find something silly to complain about. (Ie. I just read two big criticisms of the free chips n salsa, yet I thought it was just fine ...and free) Check it out for yourself, it sure hit the spot with our party tonight. read more

I'm gluten intolerant and have tried several other local Mexican restaurants that had gluten free items but I would always wind up with some kind of reaction. None of those menus have bespoke gluten free either. It was always something that I'd have to request, and hope they knew what I was talking about, or just gamble with what might be tolerable based on the ingredients. That is not the case with Don Quijote! I was glad to see them appear in a GF search and that the menu had items marked as such or came as an option. Added to that was the flavor didn't suffer, although I suspect the pulled chicken that isn't GF might come with a little more seasoning, it was delicious in my enchiladas. My wife also got the chicken fajitas and she loved them. It was a little expensive and the portions are huge, which is why I'm not giving a 5th star. read more

The food is amazing. The drinks as well. My favorite is the scorpion bowl. I always share one with my husband. If this is the kind of food you like this is the place for you. Once you're inside it's not too bright and not to dark. It's the perfect lighting. This piece is .3 miles away. So a lot of the time we will walk up there so we can drink and walk home. I debated on leaving a review, but my last experience warrants it, especially with COVID. We had a reservation at 8pm on a weekday. The restaurant was PACKED, every table was filled. As we waited to be seated, I noticed that the entire bar area was open, with people standing shoulder to shoulder, some wearing masks, most without. Even the family waiting across the tiny hallway was not wearing masks, which made us a little uncomfortable. We were seated outside, which was nice, and a little more quiet. The food was good, as were our drinks. The service was okay, it wasn't amazing, but it wasn't bad. I'm not the COVID police, but at the same time, this was pushing the limit on everything. It made my husband and I uncomfortable, and we would've left if not offered an outdoor table, with a little more privacy. I just think people need to be aware of this experience, especially if COVID is a concern. read more

So the location of this restaurant is great! Right on Montauk Hwy! Parking wasn't terrible but I also went before prime time. I could see the parking lot filling up and having to street park or park elsewhere when it gets super crowded. Was able to make a reservation but because I came so early the restaurant was still almost empty so I didn't need one. Liked the decor and music playing. Tables are tight, especially if you have long legs like I do!! Service was good. Our waiter was definitely friendly. The drinks I ordered were very strong but had a nice taste. I do have a bone to pick about something though...I requested some extra chipotle sauce for my burrito, can you believe they actually charged me $2 for it...after I already spent $20 on the burrito which ONLY came with a salad, no sides! Kind of crazy if you ask me! No prices on the bar menu! My House Margarita was $10.95 which I thought was reasonable. I enjoyed it so much I ordered 2! No free refills on sodas- each soda was $2.50 Food- Good but nothing that overly impressed me. The menu prices are quite high especially compared to the competitors in the area. I didn't mind paying this one time because I wanted to try the restaurant out, but I don't think I received a good deal for the food I was served. There were an extensive amount of menu items to choose from which is a plus for some people and a minus for others. I will be reviewing what I tried at my table! Asked for extra chipotle sauce and was charged $2, so a total of $22 for a burrito-yikes! The burrito was disappointing. Very large portion but there was sooooo much rice, almost the entire burrito consisted of rice & beans! I ordered mine with steak and the amount of steak I received was actually PITIFUL. I really did enjoy the chipotle sauce on top, the sauce had a very nice taste to it. 3 out of 5 stars Burrito Ranchero: Picked beef and also comes with bacon. I felt that there was an overwhelmingly large amount of bacon along with rice inside the burrito. There was definitely more meat inside compared to the santa fe burrito but I still wasn't impressed. 2 out of 5 stars Overall I'm glad I was able to cross this restaurant off my list but I most likely won't return. read more

Went here on date night with another couple. GET the pitcher of Margaritas! They were delicious! I could not give 5 stars even with the free tequila shot they gave everyone as our waiter had to be constantly summoned over for water refills, to order, another pitch of sangria and our bill. Trying not to call the waiter over to the table like a dog, we spent too much time trying to attract his attention. We ordered the Valencia Paella. We have ordered this before and is a favorite. The crunchy rice is the best part on the bottom of the pan. I ordered the mixed fajitas which were huge and included bacon. Unusual but who doesn't love bacon?! This restaurant is kinda hidden away (hence its name), but well worth the effort to s-l-o'w down & find it. The menu is authentic yet creative and the food is bursting with flavor and simply delicious. The waitress was very friendly and helpful and I ordered the pre fixed based off my waitress' suggestion. Excellent suggestion! It tasted as good as it looks in the photo. Even better. Bar area drive, well lit with atmosphere. Bus persons were A+ attentive. I could communicate with everyone and they played both English and Spanish holidays music. Cocktails are worth the charge, nachos are delightful, appetizers are plentiful. Glad I came here. I was visiting from out of town and wanted to see what I could find in the area in the way of Mexican food. After checking out a few postings, I decided to give this place a try. I arrived early on a Saturday evening and the place was already getting crowded. By the time I was seated and started my order, the entire restaurant was full and there were people waiting for tables. I figured "good choice", I picked the right place. WRONG! While the service was fine and everyone was attentive, the food just didn't measure up. The salsa tasted like a bowl of stewed tomatoes with onion. Very sweet, and little taste in the way of spice. Bland. My entire dinner wasn't much better. Lackluster and unadventurous. The Chile Relleno was OK (I'm being kind), but everything else was just tasteless.
