Always love this place!! It was a super busy night and we stopped in for drinks and quick bites before a show. We told the waitress and she was able to get our nachos and al pastor tacos out in 10 minutes (much appreciated). The Al pastor tacos are delicious, the nachos were also go but a tad too well done but still tasty. The salsa with the complimentary chips and salsa is one of my favorite tasting salsas ever. The Alma del sol is one of my fave drinks and my friend enjoyed the watermelon martini. The space is beautiful and can't wait to come back!

OMG. Ruta Oaxaca is an amazing Mexican restaurant that's located in Patchogue. We came to celebrate my dad's birthday. We were a group of 18 people. The exterior of the restaurant, reminds me, somehow of Mexican painter Frida Khalo. I love that it's small and cozy. I highly recommend to make reservations, ahead of time; this place gets packed quickly! The manager and staff treated us like royalty. My dad has a free drink, when he visits the restaurant, again! The decor is beautiful. We were told by the staff, that in a few weeks, the outdoor patio will be open! Overall, the food, the service and decor were top notch. Salsas and guacamole are made fresh. The tacos were on point. The shrimp and steak were very flavorful. The highlight of the evening, was the coffee flan! Smooth, creamy and delicious. Very strong coffee flavor, for coffee lovers. A small Mariachi band played live music. I highly recommend this place, if you want to have a great time, with family and friends.

Beginning to End of a late night dinner experience done just right. :) True traditional Mexican cuisine with flavor like no other. Started with vegetables Empanadas that don't compare to other fried Empanadas you'd make or get off a truck/in restaurants that speciality is just that. Light and crisp with soft delicious center. Green sauce just right you'll want to lick the plate clean. Entrees selected to follow were Steak Oaxaqueño and Chicken Mole both of which were cooked to perfection. Finished up with their Churros dessert which are addictive, light crispy Cinnamon goodness. The service from start to finish was great in a wonderfully decorated location. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for authentic Mexican cuisine.

Really great spot, lots of seating. Food was pretty good with the exception of the vegetable empanada. We loved everything else, the drinks were good. The Birria tacos were my favorite. The customer service was really spectacular all around ! Very detailed explanation of the menu and the waitress pointed out all her favorites. Pricing is a bit pricier compared to other Mexican restaurants especially for the sizes of the plates in my opinion. Will be checking out the Astoria location fairly soon hopefully the vibes are the same.

I've been to Ruta twice now. The food and service are great! I look forward to going back soon, trying some more things, and getting some margaritas!

Cute place, friendly attentive staff. The drinks are great. If you want something close to a regular margarita, get the A-wevo (choice of tequila or mezcal. With mezcal is delicious!) As far as the tacos go, I prefer the Cochinita Pibil one. Food is on the pricier side, so more like a spot for a special occasion. Chips and housemade green salsa were complimentary.

Ruta Oaxaca in Patchogue is not your average Mexican joint--it's a flavor explosion in every bite, and I'm already plotting my return. The owner himself was in attendance the entire night, weaving through the crowd like the host of the ultimate dinner party, making sure everyone was having the time of their lives (and let's face it, eating their weight in churros). The personal touch was just the beginning. Let's talk food. I went on a bit of a culinary journey, starting with the Shrimp Flautas--crispy, golden perfection stuffed with juicy shrimp that made me do a little happy dance in my chair. The Chicken Buñuelos? A genius mashup of savory and sweet, fried just right, and the kind of dish that makes you want to hide the last bite from your tablemates. The Ribs were a melt-in-your-mouth masterpiece, falling off the bone with a smoky sweetness I'm still dreaming about. Oh, and those Mashed Plantains--sweet, creamy, and unexpectedly delightful--are the sidekick every dish deserves. The star of the night was the Shrimp Castaño--a perfectly balanced blend of tender shrimp, creamy sauce, and just enough heat to keep things interesting. And dessert? Tres Leches that was so good it should be illegal, followed by churros that were crunchy, sugary bliss. (Pro tip: order extra; you won't want to share.) The drinks? Let's just say their Happy Hour from 12-7 has my name written all over it. The tequila selection is unmatched--I could practically hear mariachi music every time a bottle was mentioned. The cocktails were smooth, flavorful, and dangerous in the best way possible. The ambiance sealed the deal. The live band that night brought the perfect energy--upbeat but not overpowering, like a soundtrack to your favorite meal. Between the music, the vibrant decor, and the warm, buzzing atmosphere, Ruta Oaxaca knows how to set the stage for an unforgettable evening. In short, this place is a gem. Whether you're here for the food, the drinks, or just to soak up the good vibes, Ruta Oaxaca delivers. I'll be back for that Happy Hour and another round of ribs--don't be surprised if I beat you there!

I came here with a friend for happy hour. The food never disappoints. I had a very flavorful chicken taco. The bartender was attentive. The place was not crowded, as I went there at 4 p.m. for happy hour. The place is nicely decorated with ceiling roses. I'll definitely go back.

Food is ok. Ordered guacamole which was underwhelming because we expected an ample amount for the price of $15 but it seems like it's just guacamole made from 1/2 avocado. Came with chips and black salsa which I thought was black beans and the waitress just said it's house made but dint say what it was made from. So I didn't eat it, Ordered chicken mole. Chicken was dry and mole was a little spicy so my toddler dint eat it. Ordered fries for her but she didn't eat it too because they put chili powder. So she just ate white rice. Ambiance was ok. The restroom could be cleaner and the paper towel dispenser was broken. Also very pricy for the taste of the food which was below average.

Came in here as a walk-in with no reservations got a table right away! Have heard of them for awhile was my first time stopping in and certainly won't be my last. The food was fresh and delicious, the nachos and Tres Leches were highlights for us. Nice tequila selection as well. And there was a band going around the night we were there (was a friday)! Would make great for a birthday celebration. Other than the band, which weren't really too distracting unless they were right next to you lol, good place for talking. No blasting music like the rest of the strip. Will be back!

*The best Mexican food I ate in 2024* Friday after work, I had to drop off my wife's car to be repaired. I said let's go to Patchogue for dinner? We're walking towards the typical rotation of restaurants we frequent and passed Ruta Oaxaca Mexican Cuisine. We take a peek inside and we can be seated with no reservation needed. It's a beautiful fall night and we're shown to a table on the back deck. We are given menus and I see the "VIP Old Fashioned". Now I'm an Old Fashioned guy, to see a stepped up Old Fashioned?? Be still my heart.. This drink is made with Patron Extra Anejo and served in a smoker. Fantastic cocktail and highly recommended. The best Mole I ever had was at a Mexican restaurant on the lower east side. The restaurant closed but I always kept it to myself whenever I tried mole from other restaurants. What was served to me last night was the best mole I ever had. The owner came to our table and I told him this mole is incredible. He said the New York Times agrees with me. Their mole dish was written in the Times about their Astoria restaurant. He said the Ruta Oaxaca food is more street food but I'm sensing there is an elegance to each dish. Perfect point would be the Grilled Octopus. The sweet corn purée was incredible and was that passion fruit on the side? The octopus had the perfect char, the entire dish with all the components made this dish IMHO award winning. Seafood enchiladas topped with fresh calamari? This was their nightly special, I loved every bite My wife's taco trio? Simple with the best ingredients We finished our meal and I'm feeling satisfied. We're given dessert menus, the Tres Leche cake is called me. Wow. It's like they had grandma in the kitchen baking. Sooo good! The coffee flan? Another outstanding dish. I've been to the other Mexican restaurants on Main Street. Ruta Oaxaca Mexican Cuisine surpasses every Mexican restaurant on Long Island! From the well crafted cocktails to the amazing and authentic dishes, by far my favorite in a very long time. *Owners, can you come to Port Jefferson?

This is a dish that you probably make the highest return and profit on so to take one chicken small chicken breast which you're probably buying in bulk and getting for next to nothing and charge $10 for it to be cooked and cut up into a couple of pieces and thrown on top of the salad really was a turn off to me. Not gonna lie, I've had better, but it did what it needed to do and helped me forget my troubles for a couple hours. Also great playlist of music. I got there and they were playing Ska. Love me some Reel Big Fish and No Doubt. Mixed with some Motown and Bob Marley. Made me remember the good old days.

When in search of a place that would make my family of picky eaters happy (ie: a vegan, a…read morevegetarian, a traditionalist, and two that try to make the other three happy but like good food), WhiskeyNeat appeared like a gods-send on Yelp. I've been to Main Street Patchogue a few times before and I'm always amazed at how it's now like Huntington, with tons of eateries, bars and places to hear live music. It was a busy late Spring Friday night and my cousin told me if we were there just two weeks later (ie, post Memorial Day), there would have been lines to get in anywhere. So make resos! I made one easily earlier that day and when we arrived around 7:30, it was not packed, but it is pretty loud in there even half full. Our waiter, Jonathan, expertly took such great care of us from start to finish, even taking my father's dad jokes in stride. There's a solid cocktail menu, but I had a couple glasses of a better-than-decent prosecco. My cousin loved his espresso martini. For food, count on a couple respectable vegan entrees and I went with the Japanese eggplant with cashew ricotta. The eggplant is delicious, slightly sweet with a creamy rather than chewy (thank god) texture. The cashew ricotta is also tasty, but I do think it needed to be blended a bit more to remove the slightly grainy texture (the cashews might have needed more soaking). My father loved his French onion soup and pastrami sandwich. Separate paragraph for the fries. They deserve it. I'm glad we ordered these to share- it's an enormous platter of them. I appreciated that they were salted perfectly. I appreciate restaurants that can make satisfy a variety of preferences and dietary restrictions. The vibe here is festive and vibrant and a great choice for groups and families.
