I was visiting from out of town and wanted to see what I could find in the area in the way of Mexican food. After checking out a few postings, I decided to give this place a try. I arrived early on a Saturday evening and the place was already getting crowded. By the time I was seated and started my order, the entire restaurant was full and there were people waiting for tables. I figured "good choice", I picked the right place. WRONG! While the service was fine and everyone was attentive, the food just didn't measure up. The salsa tasted like a bowl of stewed tomatoes with onion. Very sweet, and little taste in the way of spice. Bland. My entire dinner wasn't much better. Lackluster and unadventurous. The Chile Relleno was OK (I'm being kind), but everything else was just tasteless. Good drinks. Got fiesta nachos which were tasteless. Sour cream didn't seem real and there was thin cheese sauce instead of real cheese. Orders zarzuela and carne asada and cheese quesadilla... carne, I asked for medium well, came out almost well done, chewy, stringy and bland, came to $30, zarzuela was decent, rice was sauce was the best part, seafood meat was trash. If you enjoyed the old "Meson Ole" restaurant chain (before it closed), you will LOVE Don Quijote! While the building in Patchogue has changed hands, many of the same recipes have been kept, including the ground beef tacos and enchiladas (and Nachos Ole appetizer!). Over the summer, I came here with my family. We had a large party, but the hostesses were able to seat us promptly. The staff was very attentive and friendly. The atmosphere is a bit more "upscale" than the old Meson Ole (that is, finer tableware and decor) and the prices are a bit more upscale, as well. But, if you want the "real deal" (i.e. Meson Ole food), this is the place to go. While some might scoff that the Mexican fare is not "authentic", it's INCREDIBLY DELICIOUS! Don Quijote is my absolute FAVORITE RESTAURANT (and, no, I am NOT being paid or compensated for this review in any way, shape, or form). I could, literally, eat this food every day for the rest of my life. Unfortunately, I now live far away, but every visit to Long Island will definitely include a visit here (most likely, multiple visits!). read more

The night was amazing. A group of 6 of us out for great food. We started with some appetizers of this huge tortilla bowl of nachos. That was enough for all of us. We also had quesadillas at the table which were really delicious with sour cream and guacamole. My drink was a punch that was brightly red abs extremely tasty. I ordered camarones alajillo. Shrimps in garlic sauce sitting g on a bed of yellow rice. I must say it was delicious but I was not expecting it to be spicy. On a spicy meter from 1-10... 10 being really spicy it was A 5. Beware if you are paying with a gift card/debit card. We gave the card to our server and told him there was $100 on it and to put the balance on our credit card. The server returned and said our gift card was denied. When we got home we checked online and it had a $100 balance. We were able to see that the server tried to charge our full bill (which was over $100) to the gift/debit card and that it was why it was denied. I tried to use it a few days later and someone from the restaurant stole the numbers and used it on Paypal the very next day. We really liked eating here, but will never return. read more

Best place I've been close to home for quality Mexican/Spanish food. We started with the guacamole (this was the regular guacamole app, I would recommend the Tableside Guacamole, a little extra but it's worth it) and it tasted so fresh. We also tried the frozen margarita and the Sangria, both delicious and fresh and along with those choices they had an expansive drink menu. For dinner we all had a variation on the fajitas, all tasting delicious. For dessert we had the Fried ice cream and it was TO DIE FOR!!! Service was eh and we sat outside on the outdoor deck that sadly faces a fairly busy main road which kind of kills the ambiance... I would give the food a 5/5 and the ambiance and service a 4/5 read more

Love the atmosphere here! Occasionally has live music, which sets the vibe. The margaritas are always on point, and strong. You automatically win me over there. The food is tasty, and yes, expensive. I can't think of many places I'd pay $19 for average fajitas, but I keep coming back, I keep ordering them, and I will do it again. I tried my boyfriend's chicken quesadilla and don't think I'd order that myself - it had minimal flavor. The service is great, and very accomodating. The salsa is medicore, so go with guacamole! I wish the chips were served hot/warm. That'd be a huge improvement. read more

Absolutely loved coming here! The drinks, food and atmosphere were all perfect! I highly recommend the tableside guacamole, so delicious! For drinks we had sangria and a margarita with a corona in it, yum! I had chicken/steak tacos for dinner that were cooked perfectly. Next time I go I want to try the Spanish side of menu. I only took one star away because the menu is pretty pricey. The quality of food is fantastic but I feel like if you bring the prices of the burritos and enchiladas down by $4-5, it would be more fair. Other than that... delicious! My son and I ordered the enchiladas trio which comes with one beef, one shredded chicken and one cheese. Rice seems to be parboiled instead of Spanish rice but still good. Refried beans were good. Hubby ordered a ranchero burrito with steak. BBQ sauce and bacon inside. He loved it. Hubby and I didn't finish our food so brought it home. Portions are very big. We also ordered coconut martinis and they were both strong and perfectly made. Love the toasted coconut on top. Staff was all super friendly. Anyone who happened to be walking by our table made sure our plates were cleared and asked if we needed anything. They had a nice older gentleman playing a guitar and singing beside the tables which I loved. He came by our table and had us sing and interact with him which was fun. We tipped him for which he was grateful. Ultimately we had a great experience and look forward to going back. Except maybe just for celebrations or bigger date night bc of the prices. read more

I called and placed an order for curbside and was told 30 minutes. I showed up 45 minutes later (I figured they would probably be running behind due to shortened staff and it being Cinco de Mayo). I waited and hour and thirty minutes and left without my order. Others called a day before and were waiting for an hour past their delivery time. I understand that it's a busy day and covid makes thinks more challenging due to a reduced staff, but as a business wouldn't you have prepared for that? Or at least came up with a better system than people standing masked outside waiting for their names to be called like a doctor's office? Very disappointed and will not go there again. read more

Not as good as my friend said, Besitos in West Islip is much better, sangria was good but food wasn't what I expected to be.

We have eaten here approximately 8 times over the past 5 years.This restaurant is on the north side of the island and seems to be quite different from the one on the south side. This place has a large bar, and about 22 tables, always with white tablecloths and fabric napkins. They serve nachos and salsa; we found both to be far better than others we have had at other restaurants. Actually, we are pleased they do not salt their nachos. Service is always a downer here, but the ambiance and food makes up for it. We had chicken mole, which was almost as good as the one we had in Puebla, Mexico. Nice sized portion and great mole. The other dish was a fiesta burrito, which was HUGE. At least two people could eat this. We ate a bit more than half, and brought the remainder home. It included chicken, shrimp, beef and ALL the additions you would expect. Must be eaten with a fork and knife! Both dishes were hot and well-spiced. Since Covid we have been eating out earlier than in the past. This way we do not worry about people not wearing masks--there are very few diners at 4 pm, and there was excellent social distancing. A great place, but it would be nice for the reception and wait staff to get it together! read more

Just called over there to confirm our reservations for tonight and the person who answered the phone told me that I must be mistaken because their not taking reservations for tonight. I told him I called over a week ago and made a reservation for four people over the phone with a woman and he said impossible because like he said no reservations were being accepted. Thanks for ruining my parents night out - Customer service rude and out of line. The very least they could of done is apologize and I didn't even get that all I kept getting was a repeat of over and over again we aren't taking reservations for tonight.
