Had the most fabulous dinner with my mom here! When you enter the restaurant it is so much more…read morethan you would expect from the outside. At dinner time the restaurant had a great moody vibe. Hospitality was top notch. We had a reservation and were sat right away at a table near the kitchen. I love when you can see into the kitchen and watch everything. You know that's a restaurant that trusts what they make and has nothing to hide. Our server was AMAZING. He was the kindest guy and constantly made sure we had everything we needed. He made our night with his fun energy. The food was phenomenal. The restaurant provides elevated boiled peanuts on the table to snack. The flavor was great. I ordered the jumbo lump crab cakes that comes with 2 decent size crab cakes packed with crab meat. As sides, I ordered the caesar brussels and potatoes. The sides were great and the potatoes were a combination of different potatoes which I liked. My mom had the chicken and dumplings and she had rave reviews to give. This is a great spot for a date night, a place to make a dinner feel more elevated, or to celebrate something. Thank you for the great experience and service.

Quite the yummy dinner in Deland, FL. I didn't had…read morereservations but was able to snag a table after an hour wait. The wait was worth it! We ordered the short ribs, piccanha, and prime rib. All three dishes were well thought out and executed. I want to go back soon! The atmosphere was very cozy and modern, service was attentive. Kinda feel back I forgot to take more photos before tearing into my meal...

If you're looking for a taste of Old Florida, Shady Oak Restaurant is the place to be! Nestled…read moreright along the river, this no-frills spot has been serving up Southern comfort since 1954, and let me tell you--it's worth the visit. Now, don't let the rustic, timeworn ambiance fool you. It's all part of the charm! The warm hospitality, wallet-friendly prices, and downright delicious food make this a must-stop for locals and travelers alike. We indulged in a feast of true Florida flavors, starting with crispy Fried Green Tomatoes, perfectly seasoned Gator Bites, tender Frog Legs, and flavorful Conch Fritters. Each bite had us nodding in approval, but the real star of the meal? The Gator Burger--a juicy half-pound blend of gator and pork, topped with lettuce, tomato, and their signature spicy cream sauce. Served with golden Hush Puppies, it was absolute perfection. For seafood lovers, the Fried Ponga (whitefish) was light, flaky, and cooked just right. And just when we thought we couldn't eat another bite, we made room for dessert--the Apple Blossom, a warm, sweet treat that wrapped up the meal beautifully. Shady Oak Restaurant truly captures the heart of Florida dining--simple, delicious, and served with a smile. Their slogan says, "What happens at the river, stays at the river," but I'll be telling everyone about this place! Open seven days a week, so no excuses--go treat yourself! Definitely more suited for takeout than dine-in which is strange because they have a very nice…read moredining area. If you do choose to eat there know that all the dishware is disposable plastic - they do use good sturdy plates but it's a bit of a disservice to their beautifully plated sushi to be served on plastic. Service is good as long as they're not busy. We were the only dine-in patrons and were told to grab a takeout menu and sit where we liked. We did the mental gymnastics of "do we order at the counter or will they come to us?" and the cashier must have been telepathic because she headed over a second later (the answer is it's preferred to order at the counter if they're busy). The food is decent for the cost with some highs and some lows. The Krab Don was fantastic and presented adorably. The spicy tuna roll had much needed tempura crunch inside which gives it a better texture than just minced tuna. The crunchy salmon roll tasted a little fishy and the shrimp in the shrimp and scallop hibachi was way overcooked though I give them kudos on the scallop not being overcooked. Hibachi veggies, noodles, miso and clear soups, and house salad all standard, nothing great but decent. The sushi rice was a bit dry and bland but I didn't get any nigiri so it might be better in quantity. They do thoughtful presentation, though, with carved veggies and cute wasabi leaf designs. It's very much a place you go to for value rather than quality. I'd equate the hibachi to what you'd get at the mall - decent and filling but nothing special. Sushi is on par with Publix but I believe at a better price point.
