We dined there last night with friends. It ended up being very expensive dog food. The ingredients were good, but everything was so salty. I scraped off the breading and cut it up for the dogs. I ended up, throwing away the potato pancakes. We told everyone the food was too salty for us. I think the chef should taste his own cooking before serving to other people!! Service was good. If you like (or want to try) real, authentic, German homecooking, Emmy's is the place. The food is superb (although a Bavarian cream mit schlag would be a nice addition to the dessert menu, Mark!) and the waitstaff are friendly and speedy. We came at 4:30 but was let in to get a drink at the bar. The bartender is sweet and knowledgeable. Come 5:00 we were seated come 5:25 we weren't even looked at. We nabbed Abby who was great and was our waitress for the duration. Immediately she brought us bread, drinks, took our order did this while caring for at least 3 other tables. Ambiance is okay. Emmy's food is delicious! (and I am very picky). The prime rib, soup, salad and bread are my favorite ! We drive 30 miles each way to eat here. The service is great! Mark and all his staff are so nice. (Joanne is our favorite server) My 81 year old husband says, it's the best restaurant he's ever eaten at. We have made lots of good memories at Emmy's over the past 26 years we've been going there. The taste, the quality and the amount of food you get for the prices they charge are excellent! Maybe we're spoiled living our first 40 years in the northeast, but we know good food and this place does not have it. After last night's visit we're amazed that anyone would find anything there acceptable, including the decor. First off, it reeked like an old mildew filled bathroom. The bread was so tough it formed a hard unchewable wad in my mouth that I had to spit out into my napkin. The crabmeat was funky tasting in the stuffed mushrooms, which were really just a few slices of shrooms covered in cheese. Waited forever for our dinner, veal cordon bleu, which arrived cold, overcooked and tasteless. The soggy baked potato wasn't even warm. The annoying waitress announced her name at least a half dozen times interrupting our dinner to check on us, but was nowhere to be found when after more than and hour just we wanted to get the heck out of there. The restaurant is really nice and comfy. They have booths and tables and a bar. Their menu includes German cuisine and American dishes. We were sat right away and chose a booth. Abby was a wonderful server! She discussed the salad and soup along with various dishes since this was our first time. We ordered the mushroom crab appetizer which was good. DH ordered the Jager schnitzel in pork and it came with potatoes (he chose German potatoes) and cabbage. I ordered the 16 oz prime rib which came with potatoes. We got the soup and I added the salad. The soup was amazing and the salad which was only tomatoes, cabbage and cucumber. Each one was marinated in different marinades and it was good. The prime rib was tasty and tender. DH was so very happy with all his food!!! The German potatoes were fantastic! We even ordered dessert to take home. He ordered peanut butter pie and I ordered cheesecake. Delicious! Stopped in for a quick bite during lunch. It's an older establishment with a decidedly 'central Florida' feel. Ordered an 'American' dip a.k.a. French dip and a Haddock sandwich. Apparently it was American Monday due to it being President's Day. The haddock was great, as was the coleslaw and sweet potato fries. However the beef on the dip sandwich tasted like the sliced roast beef you'd get from a deli. It was SUPER salty and had that lunchmeat flavor. I choked it down but it was not good. Should've had the burger. The folks there are friendly and the prices are in line with other lunch places. We'll be coming back for dinner soon to try the prime rib and their German offerings. They have Warsteiner beer on tap which I'm excited to try next trip as I don't often see it at bars. read more

If you want the best prime rib or German food this is the place to go. Miss Emy is the owner and she will go out of her way to make sure you feel right at home. She checks in throughout your meal to make sure everything is perfect. She is an immigrant from Germany and serves up great food. This is not a fancy place, just good down home cooking. They start you off with two big loves of fresh baked bread which is delicious. Then you get soup or salad. We chose the salad which consisted of shredded cabbage, tomatoes, cucumbers and cheese in a creamy sauce. The salad was very fresh and more like a cucumber salad. The main course was a giant slice of prime rib that was roasted to perfection. It is enough for at least two meals. We all took lots of food home with us. We will be going back as it was so good and we want to try some of the German food. read more

This was my first time at Emmy's ! Everything was amazing, steaks perfectly cooked. Potatoes were perfectly seasoned and the slaw is my favorite salad. Came here with the bestie for birthday dinner, we sat at the bar where the bartender was the star of the show, drinks were very generously poured. Everyone was enjoying themselves . He mentioned that they will not be carrying the filet much longer due to the price which is find sad. Meat is expensive. When i go out for a good steak , I expect to pay the prices. I have been coming to Emmy's for a few years and it has always been exceptional; both the service and the food. Last night was the first time I went back following Emmy's passing, which saddened everyone who was fortunate enough to know her. I was a little worried about the food quality and service slipping without Emmy, but I have to say, our steaks were exceptional and the service was outstanding. In fact, everything was great; the steaks, the cabbage/cucumber salad, the beef barley soup and the other appetizers. I went on a Sunday and the schedule says they open at 3:00pm. I arrived at 5 minutes til and the place was busy. I ordered the veal Jager schnitzel, what a huge portion and was absolutely delicious as was the red cabbage. The bread was fresh, service was spit on and we waited for nothing even as busy as they were. I moved to Deland two years ago and this is the best meal I have eaten in Florida. We visited Emmy's timeout Tavern, because so many people had recommended it. However, my husband, the son of a chef, does not tolerate overly salty foods. Most people come to Emmys for their prime rib, but we both love German food. So we ordered dishes that we had had prior in other places. At Emmy's the dishes that we ordered were like eating a shaker of salt. The flavor was indistinguishable because of the massive amount of salt used. We will not be returning to Emmy's. I took a group of 6 to Emmys based on their Yelp reviews. I originally the ordered the Osso Bucco and at 5:00pm was told there was only 1 order left? I received that order but had to return it to the kitchen because it was extremely salty. I really, really enjoy this place. I've been coming here for my girlfriend's work Christmas party for the past two years, and I have absolutely no complaints. This is your classic, in the middle of a bunch of neighborhoods, local bar kind of hole-in-the-wall gem that you will never accidently find. You'll only come here if you're told to come here by a friend. Well, I'm that friend. The staff are about the nicest folk you'll ever meet. Nothing about them overtly strikes me as German, but that doesn't matter. With every entree, you get bread, soft and supple, and your choice of a soup of salad, or both. The soup I've had both years was a beef soup, which was rich and deep with flavor, along with a nice amount of veggies. I barely even use a spoon with this. I just go in for the slurps. Now, the salad is very interesting. It's literally slices of tomatoes and cucumbers all thrown around on each other on a plate and slathered with some sort of creamy-ish dressing. It's very rustic and simple and delicious. Use that bread to sop of the rest of the remaining dressing on the plate. The entrees also come with either a baked potato or German fried potatoes. Pro-tip, listen to me now, order the fried potatoes, and ask them to make them extra crispy for you. You have not had better potatoes in the last year, I promise you. I wanted to order more just to-go so I could take them home. I was really impressed here. Now, for the entrees themselves, I love schnitzel. And if you shop at Aldi, you might love schnitzel, too. So I asked which is the best one, and my friendly server suggested the Kase Schnitzel (Pan-fried until Golden Brown, topped with a three-cheese sauce). I've never had a schnitzel covered in cheese before, but I was down for anything. So the schnitzel they serve is massive, which is usually a sign of a restaurant that prioritizes quantity of quality, but that's not the vibe I was getting here. They took their quality meat, pounded it out very effectively, and fried it beautifully. The inside was not dry, the outside was crispy and well seasoned, and the cheese on top was actually very welcome. They didn't just throw Kraft singles on top. It was a nice, subtle compliment to the plate. I also got to sample the Wiener Schnitzel (A great Austrian favorite" Pan-fried until golden brown. Served with German Potatoes & Red Cabbage). Same great dish, minus cheese, add red cabbage. It was solid red cabbage. If you like red cabbage, you'll like it. If you don't like red cabbage, start, because you'll need this freshness and acidity to cut through the heavy rest of the meal. Overall, this place is truly a diamond in the rough. If you want authentic German food you need to go to Emmy's on Sundays. We tried a bunch of different things. The potato pancakes, their version of a blooming onion appetizers. I had the tomato & cucumber salad & the pan seared grouper with mashed potato. Others in our party had the sauerbraten, the filet mignon was perfectly cooked. My family has been coming here for years, it's like walking into a cool old time warp. It's nothing fancy but we don't care we think it's neat.
