The staff was super friendly, great has small-town hospitality vibe. Since we stopped for breakfast let's start with the coffee, absolutely fantastic. Rich, fresh, and hot - and they never let your cup get below half full. I swear the waitress had a sixth sense for it because my mug was topped off with a smile before I even realized it was getting low. You don't see that here in Miami. The portions are wonderfully generous without being ridiculous. My vegetable omelette was loaded with fluffy eggs & veges, crispy bacon, and perfectly golden hash browns - and the biscuit! Love me a good southern style biscuit! Everything tasted homemade like someone's grandma was back in the kitchen looking out for you. Best of all? The prices are incredibly reasonable, especially for the quality and quantity you get. I left feeling so FULL that my next meal was dinner. They are 24 hour diner located on the outskirts of Deland area. We went with the special steak tipping eggs, and we wanted our steak well done and it was not cooked well done it was very pink inside. I also ordered the sirloin dinner with fries and the sirloin was so tough. You couldn't chew it. A lot of the food didn't have seasoning. It was very bland, not even salt and pepper. We sat near the window and the windowsill was extremely healthy They had a fly problem with flies flying all around, but it was a diner so what do you Our server was the most lovely southern woman I've met since living in Florida. She was extremely kind and tried her best to fix all of our complaints. Absolutely adore lil diners and this one is top notch. You get fed WELL for the money. The money of which isn't much, I fed 2 with dessert and sweet tea for less than $40. Our waitress was sweet and on top of things Even got us sweet tea for the road and the cups were massive. This was my 2nd time here and I'll be returning again n again. Tonight for me was the Chili n eggs with bacon and home fries plus I added on one of their massive pancakes. My partner got the chicken mini meal with fries and a salad. Ordered my eggs over medium, they came out barely over easy the yolk was super runny but I never hold that against anyone, eggs can be difficult which is why chefs hats have 100 pleats. Cooking eggs is a honed skill. The chili was a lil more watery than I'd like but considering the egg they went together perfectly and I used the home fries to soak it all up. My partner's chicken was still moist, not killed and this place does fried right!! Completely crunchy and golden on the outside soft and yummy on the inside. The chocolate cake was wonderfully fudgey and moist too. The pancake which is a must have on at least one of your visits has a wonderfully crispy edge with awesome fluffy interior. The decor is cool, the lil signs funny and sweet and all the pictures from the original speak to an owner appreciating their customers. I love the Diner restaurants an this definitely fits the bill. As soon as you walk in your greeted with smiles a the smell of good food. It's very cozy but still has enough tables inside an out to seat a lot. They have pictures lining the walls which I'm assuming is all the past truck drivers who have eaten there hence the name The big Rig 2. It's very cute and I love the history that I'm sure the pictures bring. The food was definitely home comfort food that was very good. My husband had the trucker with biscuits and gravy and had the 2 eggs with bacon combo with an extra side of grits. It was all very good. The biscuits and gravy definitely homemade and absolutely delicious. The grits were also really good as well. The portions are way more enough a fill you up. The prices are very reasonable for what you get. They also have daily specials that they put up on the white boards. The menu has a white selection of breakfast items, lunch items and more. We had a very long day of traveling and we were starving. We were excited to find a diner that was open 24/7 but we honestly didn't know what to expect from such a place and how the food would be that late at night. We arrived around 11:00pm and were surprised at the amount of people who were in there so late. The place was very busy. Out waitress (who happened to be the only waitress in the whole restaurant that night) was running around like a busy bee taking everyone's drink orders, retrieving drinks, taking everyone's food orders, running out the food and stopping to run the cash register. Because she was the only one working, service was a little slow but she was very nice and we didn't mind the wait. Even with it being very busy and the only one working, she managed to keep our drinks filled. We ordered the country fried steak and fried pork loin. Our meal was delicious and it really hit the spot. The atmosphere was great too with the old fashioned diner experience that I love. My Fav Fab One, also known as Beth, ordered the 4 Piece Fried Chicken Dinner. I had been considering a northern style pork cutlet sandwich. Or, a Philly Steak Hoagie and a cup of chili. Chili is awesome on a cool November day. Lots of tongue tingling choices, so many wonderful choices. But, when the 'other' Beth stepped in to take our orders, I was already imagining some Big Rig pigging out on some fine fried chicken! THE BEST fried chicken either one of us has EVER had! Sweet. Juicy through and through. Lip smacking, finger licking damn good! We were getting a lot of smiles per gallon on this poultry-leum! Ohhhhhhhhhh man! Cornbread. The cornbread raised the bar to a level that will never be matched. Think 'cornbread cake'! Moist. Sweet. Moist. Sweet. Heaven to eat. Hands down the bestest cornbread ever. I have been to the big rig two several times it's really good! They're open 24 seven and I did not realize that till just recently that's a real treat! I always have trouble trying to order something new because I love love love their pork tenderloin with mashed potatoes biscuits and gravy. This is a southern local diner in Deland that has one of the most extensive breakfast menus I've ever seen. We were driving home from Ocala and needing dinner on a Sunday night, when I spotted this gem and busted a U-turn! This place gives me Waffle House vibes, without the open kitchen. There were people eating, to-go orders being picked up, and a generally welcome-to-all energy. We came when the waitresses were swapping shifts, and it was nice that the one who clocked out checked on us before leaving. They have a very large menu with so many southern classics that I love. They also have specials boards around the restaurant, and tonight they had a pot roast that came with 3 sides, bread and a slice of banana cake for $15.50! Yes, that seems like a high price for a diner, but it was so much food and also they deserve to charge more in this ever increasing price market! It was worth it too. My husband got the fried chicken which was a half a chicken with 2 sides and bread. Our meals were so big, we could've shared one easily. We both have leftovers for lunch tomorrow! The food looked average but it tasted above. The pot roast was fall apart tender and the brown gravy really set it off. The mashed potatoes, yams and green beans were all solid choices and I really loved the cornbread. LOL Not being a Deland local, I don't know if there is a "Big Rig 1", but I kind of suspect there is. Big Rig 2 was right around the corner from where I was working this day, so I stopped in and was pleasantly surprised. For what it is, a kind of dive-y diner frequented by locals, I really liked this place. I'm from South Carolina originally, and I literally felt like I had went home and stepped back in time some thirty plus years. Fried chicken, collard greens, green beans, and Sweet Tea ( NOT "sweetened tea"- that's a Yankee word ;) ). Yummm. Everything was delicious. Don't go in expecting anything fancy, but if you like good Southern cooking and your waitresses sweet but sassy, this place won't disappoint. Next time I'm in Deland, I'll come here again! The food is always delicious and you get the biggest portions I've ever seen a restaurant give! It's more than worth the money. The service is very fast, whether you're dining in or getting take out. I was told it used to be a truckers diner. When you look around you can definitely see the history of it. There's plenty of very interesting articles on the wall for you to read. It's a very fast paced diner but by no means are you rushed. I came here once during the day with family and many times during my overnight shift to pick up my dinner. I love this place! What a great experience from start to finish! When we arrived we were worried that our large group couldn't fit, but the staff went above and beyond to get us seated and served together. I can't stress enough how friendly everyone was! There were so many choices for food it was hard to decide, but we each got something different. Everything was delicious snd the portions were quite healthy. When your waitress warns you you're getting a "big honkin pancake" you best heed her warning. Very much a southern truck stop/locals type of spot and I love that. The waitresses seemed to know the majority of the customers well and I often consider that a sign of a good establishment. The menu is extensive with a few things you don't see every day like a giant Midwest pork tender, fried catfish on the breakfast menu, and "steakhash" which we found out is hand shaved beef (like a Philly cheesesteak) fried up with potatoes and onions. I ordered the country breakfast which was two eggs, choice of meat, and the previously mentioned "big honkin pancake". My only major criticism is that the pancake came out quickly and our eggs came out about 5 minutes later. But it was fluffy yet chewy, crispy edges, buttermilky and delicious. And yes, it was definitely a big honkin pancake nearly off the edge of the plate. I judge country diners on their gravy and unfortunately it was just ok. It was more of a milk and pepper gravy with a few bits of sausage. Potatoes were cooked well and the scrambled eggs were creamy but not wet. My father had the steakhash and eggs which could have used a tad more seasoning but was a delightful change from canned corned beef hash (which they do have). Fun fact, they make FRESH corned beef hash after St Patrick's Day using the leftover corned beef! Definitely intrigued by the lunch and dinner menu, and loved the energy of the place, inviting and chill, so we'll definitely be back! read more

First time ever there. Took my elderly mother to lunch figured we would try it. The food was very good and the portions were great. I told her it was our first time there. But the waitress had a issue with us from the time we set down. Never came to check on us ,never asked if we needed refills, never asked if we needed anything. . she sat our food down and walked away Did the same with the check... not even ask if we wanted a box to take what my mom had left over... The Big Rig has always been good... total diner style... Thanksgiving is a feast... recommend it anytime .. breakfast, lunch or dinner

So while staying in Deland while house hunting, this became my favorite breakfast place. It doesn't look like much on the outside... or the inside to be honest, but this is where the locals come and the service is super friendly. Plus the owner was present most of the days I was there which is always a nice thing to see. I went several times so I tried a variety of dishes... First off, I am going to say that one of the reasons I took a point off is that the grits have no flavor. I asked for them with cheese and then had to still salt them... if you're going to call yourself a "Southern Diner" I expect a little pizzazz in your grits... On to the food: the first day I tried the half pound of steak tips special. The steak was tender, and they had Heinz 57 sauce which is always a plus in my book. I had them with eggs and grits with cheese plus raisin bread. Very yummy and filling. Again, steak could have used a bit of seasoning, but otherwise still good. The second day I tried the chicken fried steak.... with, eek, brown gravy. Firstly, I was very impressed when the waitress told me she sent back the first steak because it looked "too dry." The chicken fried steak I was brought was just right. Nicely seasoned and tender and adding brown gravy... wow... again, eggs and grits with cheese... good. On day three I tried the pork cutlet. It was ok. A little on the drier side and the breading made me think these are probably frozen and then tossed in the fryer to cook. My usual eggs and grits but this time I tried the white gravy and it was pretty good - thick with peppery spice and bits of sausage. Finally, on day four I had the fried chicken and french toast. You get a half chicken (wouldn't allow for all dark meat) but the pieces were small enough so it wasn't overtly filling. The french toast was a little disappointing as when I read "Texas toast" it congers images of large thick slices of bread, which these weren't. Also, I didn't get a flavor of cinnamon or other spices in the egg dip, so kinda flat in taste. Still, I give this place 4 stars for the service, for the things they do right, and for the atmosphere... I like they have a 24 hour open menu so you can have what you like when you want it. I'll have to come back and try lunch some time... also, you have to give them props for staying open after a tornado tore through their property damaging their roof, their road sign and some cars in the parking lot... I learned a lot of information as people came in and out about the damage the tornado had done. read more

The experience was alright. Waitress was a lil dry and lacking all joy. Food was good, those pancakes are huge! An I mean could feed a family of 10 huge! The portions for the meals are huge as well! A kids tenders is like 6 tenders! The food taste wise I'd give it a 3.5 to 4 stars. Over all the ambiance was chill. Kinda small in there so if you have more then 6 people good luck. Their portion sizes are very large which is nice when you have a bunch of kids that can split it. Service has been great as well.
