Service was excellent, not the largest dinner but you can have large parties tables move together. The spinach feta cheese omelette was done,especially if you do not like runny eggs of any kind or mushy. Benedict was good. Sausage gravy, is good. Definitely get the home fried potatoes, hash brown looked crispy but soggy, mushy inside. Grits, bland, grits were not lumpy but bit too runny. Sausage Pattie's for my taste spicy. Stopped in to try the breakfast. Quickly got seated and was pleased with a nice menu of breakfast choices. Food arrived quickly and was very good. This restaurant was gross. I was served water with food in the glass. Then, my food came out with a hair in it. When I told the waiter, they said that it was probably ours even though no one in our group had that color hair. Then they wouldn't give us a refund for anything. My husband and I are in town again visiting family and stopped by Mel's diner this morning for a quick brunch. Thankfully they were open on Labor Day and not busy. I ordered the eggs Benedict with hashbrowns and my husband ordered their meat and cheese omelette. Both were GREAT. I order eggs Benny at every breakfast and brunch spot we go to around Port Orange and Daytona and I have to say, these were probably the best poached eggs I've found so far. Perfectly poached. The hollandaise wasn't the best and the food overall needed a little added salt, but I'd rather it be under salted and us just add in some to our liking as opposed to over salted. So I appreciate that. Also, just thinking about people who cannot eat salty foods (like those on dialysis) the lack of "proper" amount of salt is actually great. Our waitress was very nice and speedy with the service. Overall, I'm really glad we stumbled upon this place today and we were very satisfied with the food and service. This is a diner. It looks like a diner. It's a clean place with great service and very accommodating to groups who just show up. ;-). We had 6 adults and 2 babies. The clientele were friendly and smiled and waved to the babies, some stopped by the table. My mom always gets as many whole quiches to take home as they will sell her. I have tasted them, and they are very good! Most of us got the everything omelette, and it did not disappoint. I even got the extra cheese I requested. Of course, this was 3 breakfasts for me after taking some home. My son demolished his, as did my husband. My uncle ordered a single poached egg and toast which were prepared to his satisfaction. I saw an ad in a magazine for Mel's diner and I've never been there so I took my daughter-in-law and two granddaughters for breakfast. Very surprised, look like a small diner in our town as I was growing up in the 50s and early 60s and I was extremely surprised at the affordability of the menu. Excellent pricing but what about the food??? The food was excellent and a magnificent breakfast and the service was not only quick, It was excellent and speedy! Looking for a quick breakfast, and found this hidden gem. We were very impressed, with the staff, and how clean the restaurant was. We arrived at around 9:00am, and since It's a seat yourself, we sat down right away. The staff was very nice and was very talkative, if we wanted to talk. Plenty of creamer and jelly (various jellies), were on the table. We both had two eggs, (1) Home fries that were very fresh, (1) hash brown which was very thick and crispy. (1) Sausage, came as links or patties, (1) Bacon, came crispy, and (1) Rye Bread Toast, (1) Sour Dough Toast. Everything was excellent and perfectly cooked. We usually have the worst luck, getting a fresh breakfast (potatoes always taste like they have been sitting awhile, or eggs & bacon is greasy, couldn't believe that we found a restaurant that was good in all categories. We saw this restaurant years and years ago and was always going to stop and so glad that we finally stopped. We will be back. read more

We have been looking for a diner since we moved here from New York and had to try Mel's. The interior certainly leaves a little to be desired with basic, no frills, and some odd decor. We were greeted on entry and sat down where we liked and served hot coffee quick enough. Food came Lukewarm at best and honestly the pancakes and bacon seemed like it was premade and heated up. I didn't think it was going to be what we were used to but the pancakes didn't even come hot enough to melt the butter and were hard to chew. Will not be going back that is for sure. Cute little place with great prices! Gave it a two for my husband ask for medium and they were runny and park of the whites were not cook. I ask for two eggs over easy and received one perfect and the other over medium. Asked if the rye bread had seems in it and she said yes and said that they have a marble bread without the seeds, so I ask for that and here the marble bread has seeds! Their hash brown casserole was pretty good. Service was good but they need to get better at eggs and know their menu. read more

Upon entry, you're faced with a large section of family style seating. Booths around the perimeter, all full with patrons, with nary a customer at the family tables. I chose what has seemed to be my breakfast choice of late, a fried egg and bacon sandwich on white toast I wasn't disappointed the two eggs were cooked over medium the bacon cooked perfect and toast well it was a very nice platform to hold all of this together. I also really enjoyed the coffee it was fresh and plentiful. We walked in a little after 9 AM on this Saturday morning and since its a seat yourself restaurant we quickly found a table but most were full but there wasn't a wait although there was a steady flow of customers after we were seated. Our server greeted us within a minute after we were seated and delivered our drink order just few minutes after taking out order. The food came out nice and hot on clean warm plates not only was the food presentation perfect it was so good. There seems to be plenty of parking in the front and also on either side of the entrance. All in all this was a great experience, the service was great and the restaurant is spotless clean all of these things are reasons we'll return so definitely keep this little gem in mind when you're looking for a breakfast or lunch spot when in the area. read more

This is a nice mom and pop little diner with a 50s motif open only for breakfast and lunch I know the waitress took the order right because I checked the ticket. Kitchen messed up but actually it was not bad. Homefries instead of hashbrowns and different bread for the toast. The homefries were actually pretty good. Red skin with spices and onions. Not sickly sweet like most breakfast casseroles--just right! Our son had the Cinnamon Roll French Toast--Oh my goodness, Lord have Mercy!!! Made from a huge cinnamon roll sliced and French toasted--I should have taken a picture! The menu writer must also have a sense of humor---you can order a slice of homemade sausage bread (with sausage gravy) or a quarter, half or WHOLE loaf!!! ;) Our son lives in the area and took us here--so glad he did! Good simple food. The only place I can get scrapple which is a Pennsylvania Dutch/German pork breakfast meat. Nice to be able to rekindle the flavors from my youth. Give them a try, they have great teamwork and are very efficient. Prices are just right making for an affordable meal. I've only had breakfast here, but the serve lunch as well. Ordered the open face turkey with mashed potatoes and gravy. Thin dried up leather like turkey over toast, very yellow looking potatoes that may have been instant and brown gravy that most likely came from a jar. If I go to a jeweler and want a pair of diamond earrings and I find out they sold me cubic zirconia instead I would be pissed.
