I went in and saw all of these people with hoagies about the size of their hands or longer and I thought that was a whole sandwich. So I ordered a whole sandwich and what came with something that was probably 15 or 16 inches long! When I first paid for it and it was 20 bucks, I was surprised at the price! When you walk in, it just feels like they would make a good sandwich. It's a small shop, smells incredible and feels like you were transported to a deli up north somewhere (I wouldn't know from personal experience- just taking a wild guess based on assumptions. Woooow, these sandwiches were delicious. I tried some Stetson Hatter which had a more classy combo with the roast beef because of the roasted red peppers & onions. The quality of the meat is great. I did enjoy the panini but it wasn't my favorite. However, the star of my lunch was the roast beef panini! Super simple ingredients, just roast beef and horseradish cheddar, but what a combo! They are the best deli style sandwich shop I've found since leaving NY. It's literally the best sandwiches, filled with meat and flavor but that's not even the best part!! The bread is the star and phenomenal (you can just buy a loaf separate). I got the girls to try a black and white! They loved it cause they split flavors and a potato knish (their new fav snack)! My wife and I are newbies in Deland from South Florida. Deland has so many unique gems. Manzano's is definitely one of them. Their menu of sandwiches is A+. I always here the same thing OMG are they good, wish they were open longer but boy is it worth running over there. My biggest surprise from them is their Cuban sandwich. Manzanos hands down has the best sandwiches in Deland. No cap, as the kids say... but they have two huge issues you have to ignore. 1) The owner is absurdly rude to his staff. I've seen him eviscerate a 15 year old for not picking up the job fast. If you can handle his unnecessary verbal abuse. Half the battle is won and you may have just found your new favorite sandwhich shop. 2) Someone else can help confirm this, but I'm fairly certain they have to go through their bathroom to get to the freezer. My family and I have been enjoying Manzanos in NSB for years, but I finally had the opportunity to try it in DeLand. In the heart of downtown DeLand, it's a small spot. But they make good use of the space with a few indoor and outdoor tables to eat. I popped in with my pup and took my sammy to-go. The bread is rustic and hearty and you'll be satisfied with a half sandwich (which is divided into two generous portions.) My go-to for cold sandwiches is the Italian Stallion. We didn't know what to expect as far as service because a lot of the reviews said "best sandwiches, worst service"...for us, the service was great, even on par with the quality of sandwich! The staff is quick, helpful, will answer your questions but again this is fresh food fast..so everything they are doing is quick including making your order even if it is busy! This is our first time eating there and if I lived in the area I would be here weekly. Prices are fair, quality is amazing, taste even better! This is an amazing delicious spot for Deland. Went in here today because it used to be good, we went at 150pm and they were shutting off lights right after we placed order, Totally understood because they closed at 2 but we didn't know. . After they shut off the lights I told my hubs to change the sandwich to no condiments so we can leave because I knew they weren't done making it and the guy making it says "good thing you told me now because you would have been sh*t out of luck". I'm like we are just trying to leave since your obviously closed and the food is taking over 15 mins and we didn't know you'd turn off the lights.... Not the service we are used to in deland. Then to top it off While waiting the girl Cleaning picked up the mat that they stand on and shook it off right next the open deli container basically shaking the dirt sand etc right into food... Mmmm! 4 Stars for a great vegan sandwich on phenom bread, and some lovely outdoor seating in downtown Deland. I opted for the Christina, a vegan sub with typical sub sandwich veggies plus avocado and vinegar. It was really tasty- mostly due to the perfect bread and fresh ingredients. The avocado was a bit lite (give us a teensy but more!), but I enjoyed it overall. My friends got meatier subs, including one on a fabulous toasted rosemary bread, and they were DIVINE. Next time, I'm opting to put the plant-based diet on hold for reeeeeeal. The service was great, with the cashier being super friendly and talkative and offering her suggestions. The fellas making the subs were a bit salty, but it kind of made the experience more legit. Finally, in terms of ambience, it's a hole in the wall deli, but there's indoor seating as well as umbrella-shaded outdoor seating facing the main street. One of my favorite places in the world is inside a New York deli. And I have to say that Manzano's makes me feel like I'm there. Small and tight little place tucked away beside the courthouse, that most would walk by and never notice. The bread is flown in daily from the big apple and the sandwiches are huge! We passed this place after heading home from the gym and decided to give it a try. We had one guy ahead of us and a few people waiting for their sandwiches along with a call in order so it took over 25 minutes to get two sandwiches. Quite excessive I believe. I ordered a side of Italian pasta salad and when the cashier was getting me a fork she grabbed it by the side you eat off of then stuck the fork in my pasta salad! This is the same person I just saw handling cash, change and has been doing gods knows what with her hands. I've never witnessed anyone do this before and she acted like it was no big deal. Like an everyday occurrence. Just like how normal people was their hands after they use the restroom, but it's safe to say Manzano's doesn't require that of their employees. There was also glass cleaner next to food being prepared. The two guys who were making the sandwiches kept on pushing the glass cleaner down the line to make room for sandwich making. I can't believe I ate here after the multiple health code violations I witnessed and that I'm even admitting to eating the pasta salad, but I did. The sandwiches were good. Especially the NY style bread on the Rocco. The pasta salad was not good and definitely not worth whatever germs I ingested off that woman's hands, ugh! Too many health code violations out in plain sight makes me wonder what's going on when we're not looking. The wait was way too long. Heard what looked like the boss (older chubby guy) saying a big order came in from the jail and they had to make them good and fast (meaning putting them before all other orders). The boss and the only other guy on the line laughed while the place was filling up with people. This pissed me off because Manzano's obviously doesn't care about its customers. Best sandwiches ever. My favorites are the Up In Smoke and the Manzano Panini. If you're getting a sub, the 1/2 size is more than enough for one person (the whole size is gigantic!). Bread is amazing- nice crunchy crust, soft inside. Stacked high with meat. Slightly pricey but you get a large portion.
