My fiancée and I visited Deland for a weekend trip to the springs and picked Urban Brick for our dinner Saturday. The restaurant atmosphere was very welcoming and cozy. We were greeted immediately and sat promptly. Our waiter was very quick and took great care of us. The Diavola pizza was awesome and was a great mix of sweet and savory. The fettuccine Alfredo was even better and the chicken was seasoned perfectly. We talked to Rose for a bit after our meal and she made us feel very welcomed for our first time in Deland! Review: Great Pizza, but the Dessert and "Default" Tips Left a Sour Taste Rating: 3-Stars My sister and I were having a "Sister Day" in DeLand and decided to stop by Urban Brick after seeing a brick-oven pizza on someone's table that looked incredible. The Vibe & The Food: The place is super quaint and nicely decorated with both indoor and outdoor seating. Even after 2 PM, it was packed, which is usually a great sign! We shared a 12" Artisanal Margherita Pizza. If you like NYC-style thin crust but with that specific brick-oven char, you'll love this. The sauce was a bit on the sweeter side, which was a surprise, but it actually worked really well. Definitely a solid pizza. The "Foodie" Letdown: However, as a seasoned foodie who has been to plenty of places, I was really disappointed by the value and service at the end of the meal. I ordered a Tiramisu to go ($11), which is my favorite dessert. When I got home and opened the container, I was in total awe--it was arguably the smallest piece of cake in history. For that price point, I've had much better for much less. It was a major letdown after a good pizza. Service & "The Tip" Situation: The service also didn't quite hit the mark for me. Our waitress brought the menu, took the order, and delivered the food, but that was it. No check-in to see how the food was or if we needed refills. As a foodie, I appreciate the "hospitality" side of dining, and this felt very transactional. To top it off, when the paper check came, I noticed the suggested tip calculations at the bottom started at 20%, 25%, and 30%. They completely opted out of showing the standard 15% or 18% options. While I know I can calculate my own, it felt a bit forced. Giving a 20%+ tip at a fancy restaurant for attentive service is one thing, but for a meal where the server never checked back on us, it felt misplaced. The Verdict: The pizza and the area are great, but the experience was dampened by the tiny dessert and the pushy suggestions on the check. It's an "FYI" for those who value the full dining experience--come for the pizza, but maybe skip the Tiramisu and keep an eye on those tip percentages! I took a group of friends to Urban Brick to celebrate my bestie's 86th birthday! EVERYTHING WAS WONDERFUL! from the person who took my reservation to our server! The ambiance is a very attractive comfortable rustic. The food is spectacular! The birthday girl had lasagna after a gazillion wonderful appetizers! And tiramisu for dessert! A happier person you have never met! The table had pasta dishes, pizza, both colors of sangria and a variety of desserts. All to our delight. We stopped in Deland for dinner on our way to Gainesville and so glad we found this place. We got there just at 5, with music setting up. We asked for a seat inside, and wish we had sat outside bc when we left, it was packed and the musician was great! Similarly, the food was excellent! We had a house and Caesar salad- both were so good and an indicator for how good our entrees had. They were able to accommodate gluten free pasta for the bolognese- and it was sooo amazingly good. I've been here several times now, and every visit has been fantastic. The food is absolutely amazing -- full of flavor and clearly made with care. They're known for their Italian dishes, and as someone who once owned an Italian restaurant myself, I can honestly say they're doing it right. I have been wanting to try this place for awhile but just never did. Finally knew I wanted pizza last night and knew I wanted to try somewhere new and finally swung by. Ended up ordering three pizzas. A plain cheese, a margherita, and then their house favorite sweet and salty. Only drawback, they only come in one size, a 12" hand tossed. Pizza smelled delicious and everything looked amazing. The whole reason for trying to find somewhere new was because I was craving a good margherita pizza. This one was delicious and had a nice amount of cheese, basil, and tomatoes. Definitely hit the spot. The sweet and salty sounded good but was the flyer based on it being the house favorite. It was shockingly good. The gorgonzola was strong but welcomed. The onion, fig, prosciutto, and basil all went perfect together. And for the plain cheese, it was devoured and I heard no complaints from the kids. All in all, I would definitely come back and wouldn't hesitate to get it all again. Went here after an event I had in town. Our waiter was great. We had the spinach and artichoke as an appetizer, it was really good and plenty enough to share. For my meal I had the Diavola pizza. It was awesome! I don't eat meat so I asked to substitute the pepperoni for another topping and they didn't have an issue. No extra charge. The flavors with the honey drizzle was perfect. We came here for lunch after just moving to Deland and not really knowing the lunch "spots". Let's just say I can't wait to go back here. The bread was so fresh and garlicky, as well as the ingredients. My pizza was phenomenal. I ate half and took the other half to lunch the next day. But let's talk about the bread and spinach and artichoke dip... I dream about it! The cheese layer on top was just enough, the bread was perfectly oiled and the portion size was perfect, I even had some dip left over for my crust. Our server was great! We have been to the Urban Brick now a few times as well as several pickup orders. Have not had the pizza yet but the pastas are amazing. Loved the gnocchi, husband is in love with the flourless cake. What a great find in Deland. This is my first visit to Deland and what brought me in was a salad. But then I saw the Salty Sweet pizza and had to add that to the order. The 13" pie was a delicious balance of sweet with the fig and the salty ham and cheese. This pie is a winner. The large chopped salad was enough for two and delicious with smoked bacon, blue cheese, and purple onions! It was busy but we did get a table. Busy on a Sunday means usually busy.
