I've always enjoyed the NSB location on Flagler and it's amazing that this location equals or rivals the original location. Bring your appetite if your eating alone the half sub may be a stretch to get down. These are serious subs! Today it was the Broadway Hot Pastrami minus the banana peppers but plenty of provolone cheese and quality pastrami cajun mayo and spicy mustard add a bag of New Orleans Zapp Voodoo Kettle Chips and you've just hit a home run. Although this store is much smaller than the original you can find a seat most times either inside or out since most business people on their lunch hour order ahead and take them to go. I find the service here exceptionally friendly, funny and they are working hard to build your creation exactly as you ordered it. They aren't cheap but the quality is there and once you try them you will be driving by the other sub shops to get back here. read more

BOOM‼I was in Deland today and heard about Manzano's from my nephew, I love this kid. He knows I am very picking about my hoagies, especially Italian Hoagies ... Great hoagie (sandwich) spot... Service was great, knew how to make a hoagie and the bread was great which made this hoagie AWESOME‼I had the Balboa (felt I was in South Philly.... yo Adrian). For those who wrote the bad reviews, I have some feed back for you free of charge 1. It's not five star dining, it's a hoagie shop 2. You order it, you bought it... As someone who was born and raised on Long Island, NY (look it up - there's a picture of an Italian sub on the county flag) this place has some impressive sandwiches! The reason is probably that they LITERALLY FLY THEIR BREAD IN FROM NY! Who does that?!?! The perfect bread mixed with those Boars Head meats makes this spot a must-stop if you're ever within a 15 mile radius. The Clubber Lang, DeLand Bulldog, and Italian Stallion are all excellent bets if you want to experience the true Manzanos. Also: a note of caution... the folks who run this place will sometimes talk like sailors. It doesn't bother me (or most folks) but if you're very sensitive or want a place to bring your kids who haven't watched TV / the internet then you may want to brace yourself a bit. On a NY scale of 1-10 it's about a 2, but I can see how others may take offense to the language or attitudes here down south. Last time that I was here, I opened the door and walked in, they looked completely open...but the people at the front table, who were eating, proceeding to say, "they are closed, are you stupid?" I said no, they said, don't you see the sign on the door, which had fallen, and I said no, again!" I asked the man at the counter, who said, no problem, come in, we can make what you like, but there is no seating, which, honestly, I was taking mine home to eat anyway, and was really craving a Coney Island Potato Knish, to top it off! But my son, who was right behind me, and heard what the people had said, and were laughing at me too, told me "let's get out of here!" I had started to cry, out if anger and hurt, to be treated that way, by other people, and for the store owner, to allow it too...there were even people eating, and waiting for orders outside at their tables on the sidewalk, they have set up outside too! My son got so upset, when he saw how upset I was, that he called them back, and told them that he would never be back there...and up until then, he had been a regular customer! So, I really think, that when this owner was told how upset I was, he should have told my son to come inside with me, and he would do everything that he could do to accommodate us, and get us on our way! They always say, one bad comment spreads to a thousand customers, but a good comment only spreads to a hundred, so much less, so in other words, you need to work hard to make your customers happy so they will have lots of good comments to spread around! Oh my goodness the NY bread is amazing!! This small sandwich shop is on the corner of the main drag in Deland. The menu is fairly long and creative with various meats and topping combinations. I went with a hot pastrami sandwich ($8.99) and then paid the $1 extra for NY bread and it was totally worth it! Also you could easily split a sandwich between two people but who wants to share when it tastes this good?!? I can't wait for them to open up their Winter Park location!! read more

When I'm in a new and unfamiliar town I can usually trust Yelp to find me a pretty good meal. Unfortunately, Yelp let me down with this one. I came in on a weekday afternoon to grab a sandwich to take back to my hotel and there were a few people eating and about a handful of people in front of me to order. Two guys putting together sandwiches and one girl up front is not enough to accommodate people in a timely manner. From the time I walked in the door until the time I got my sandwich was just under 30 minutes. Ridiculous. People that ordered after me even got their sandwiches prior to me getting mine. When I finally got my sandwich, I got no apology for the wait or even any eye contact from the employee working the counter. The quality of the sandwich was good, but nothing about it would make me crave another one. The portion was fair, but it should be for a $9 sandwich. Previous reviews rave about how good their bread is and I thought it was average. It's bread, it can only be so good. My sandwich needed some salt and it just lacked flavor. I couldn't even finish it like I wanted to as it just fell apart towards the end. It's a handheld item and it shouldn't fall apart like that. While I probably won't be in DeLand anytime soon, there are tons of restaurants in downtown to choose from and this place wouldn't be one of them. read more

Wow. I don't know how I missed this place. I moved downtown last year and have walked by at night (as they close at 4) and maybe that's why it never registered. However, I recently have had more time during the day and I have made two stop ins. Today I brought my husband and he agreed that this is the best sub he has ever had. The bread has such a unique taste and the subs are so full of meat and toppings. You really get your monies worth. The taste of the ingredients is always fresh. I can't even look at a Publix sub anymore. The owner is friendly and The service is fast. This is my new-go to place for lunch! I forgot to mention- the portions...huge! BEST SANDWICH EVER!! WOW! My grandmother and I are huge foodies and came across this place when I was looking on my maps. We were a little lost so I called and a nice guy (Z Man) came out of the store and actually waved us down to help us out. We got the roast beef sandy which was out of this world; amazing fresh bread from NY and the meat was nothing I've ever had before, so good! The owner Chris was so kind and recommended we get a half because the portions are huge! It was perfect to split. My granny is hard to please and she couldn't stop raving about this this place. Holy smokes they have Mouthwatering NY bread. Nothing else truly matters when it comes to a sandwich, and they even sell their bread to take away for $5. The sandwiches are worth the wait. These aren't fast, the line is reflective of the quality, so expect to wait 20-30 minutes once you're done ordering. I'd suggest to read the menu before you get in line, as it's overwhelming and also sort your extras right away as well. Getting in line again after you get your sandwich is probably not gonna happen on a weekend, so just sort it out at the beginning! I have ordered here before and no doubt the food is great. However today my boyfriend tried to place an order for our lunch over the phone. The conversation went as follows: Employee: Manzano's please hold Employee: Yeah man what can I get you? Boyfriend: can I have the western? That comes in a half sub, right?? Employee: anything else I got other people calling? Boyfriend: does the western come in a full or half sub? Employee: are you going to order something else? hold on man I gotta another order coming in. *puts boyfriend on hold* The employee was completely rude and wouldn't take the two seconds to answer the questions asked about the order or even the time to take the actual order. He wasn't even on the phone speaking for more than 45 seconds. We refuse to ever eat at a place that can't take the time out for their customers to actually take the order. Customer service is at an all time LOW. Literally they act as if you don't matter. Being from DeLand this isn't the way we treat people here. I'm a NY guy who hasn't been able to fine a real deal old school Sangwich as we refer to them anywhere in central Florida... there's been a couple small places I've come across I've been pretty good but this sandwich right here is straight old school!!! I ordered the Goodfella, first thing that struck me when I opened it up was the shredded lettuce, that took me back over 50 years to a little place in Rochester New York called Nacca's... The Italian meats were plentiful and fresh and that ciabatta bread with a nice crispy crust is just outstanding!!! One of the best Sangwiches I've ever had!!! They're not always open on the weekends but Monday through Friday is a sure bet! read more

I was born and raised in Central New Jersey and I have to say that Manzanos is by far the best sandwich shop I've ever eaten at. Their hot pastrami on rye rivals Katz Deli in the Bowery for sure. I've tried just about every sandwich they have to offer and I haven't been disappointed yet! Perhaps it's the boars head meat or the crunchy yet soft NY bread, either way you have to stop what you're doing and go pick yourself up a sandwich! The Gods and Goddesses who create these to die for sandwiches are all very friendly and funny which makes the wait easier to deal with. You can always call in your order if you don't want to wait. The prices are super affordable at about $8 for half, but I don't think I'd mind dropping $25 on a sub from this place. My husband and I are making it a weekly tradition to pick up a loaf (or 2) to go with our Sunday sauce. I suggest you skip the Italian bread you get at whichever local grocery store you go to and do the same; you won't be sorry! read more

Don't have much to say about the customer service as there was not much interaction, I will say though that at times if you order by phone it may be a while before they answer, maybe due to how busy they are. Three Cheese Caprese - delicious pesto w/ sun dried tomatoes warmed to a melted tasty slice of heaven. Onion soup had tons of carmalized onions - and NO MSG. (yay!) If you are into New York style deli. You will absolutely enjoy. I usually order a Coney island which is like a Reuben but better. It is the most filling sandwich. I normally get a half and it last for two meals. On one visit my friend ordered the salad and it was also a good size and the meat (Boars Head, which if you are from NY you all ready know). Everything just gives you the vibe you're in a dirty, old, grandparents deli that was closed for 20 years and decided to just open again today and not clean a thing before starting up again. The jar of cannoli shells dying on the counter for show only is totally unappetizing and the first thing you see. The best part is the drink selection as you can find usual items but beware $4 for a tiny can of soda is insane. Pickles advertised 2 for $1 but it's not the case, they charge you for two anyway. They add fees for using credit card without any warning. The cashier was unpresentable, long hair pulled back very messy and between touching the cash register she is wrapping sandwiches, gross! The man making the sandwiches completely grossed me out, rubbing his face on his arms and continuing to make sandwiches then wipe his hands just anywhere. The sandwich was ok but so overpriced for such a dirty and cramped establishment. On the way out the experience was just topped as I looked for the trash can and found it by the door completely full and overflowing. This place should be inspected and shut down. I feel gross from the unappealing experience of eating here and definitely won't be back. With all the money they charge they should really remodel and do better! read more

I moved back to West Palm Beach a couple years ago after graduating from Stetson University. I used to get Manzano's literally twice a week. This is the definition of what a Sub Shop is supposed to be. Nowadays, I will literally beg people who are swinging through DeLand to stop at Manzano's and grab my sub.
