I really enjoyed coming here. I ordered a chicken fried steak with home potatoes and a pancake, my other half ordered a veggie omelette with hash browns and a pancake. I also got an order of toast and I had to order a biscuit, since they are made in-house. The food was great, I really enjoyed how tasty everything was. The steak was a moderate size, but overall it was a good amount of food on the plate. I definitely enjoyed the gravy, never seen such great gravy, and the hash browns were absolutely perfect. The pancakes were really good also. The coffee was good quality and the staff kept coming around with a refill. Locals come to this restaurant, it really feels like a genuine diner where the community meets. Unfortunately, they were talking about politics and getting loud, so on my particular visit, that was a turnoff. But other than that, everything was extremely good. Definitely coming back. This is a cute little diner. Not fancy at all. Its parking lot is really difficult to navigate easily. The wait staff is very kind. The epitome of southern charm. The food is ok. I've been wanting to try this place for a while but my timing to Deland never added up to their open hours. We were able to pop in on 12/27, before my parents left to go back to Ohio. The building itself is small inside. However - they comfortably sat the 5 adults and 2 children of our party. Our service was great! About 20 years ago, my sister told me about this place cause she worked across the street from it and she went there almost every day. Even though time and time again I wanted to go I just never pulled it for one reason or another. But the other day I went and I have to tell you. My sweet man had their meatloaf plate more food than you can shake a stick at. It was delicious full of flavor and perfectly ,perfectly balanced .Their mashed potatoes ,Remind me of my mom's. They are made the way mashed potatoes are supposed to taste. The meatloaf perfect ,the fried okra just absolutely amazing and the ranch dressing to dip the okra in better than bottled . Then I just had the simple soup ,simple soup my foot .I had their potato soup and the Angel ( I think I remember her saying her name was Chrissy ) who made it , well I have to tell you. I believe when you sit down to a meal, you begin to enjoy it by the aroma of the flavors in the dish this soup when it was placed in front of me teased my pallet just from the aroma with the first bite I knew I was tasting perfection. It wasn't over seasoned. It wasn't under seasoned it hit every point on the flavor scale simple but delicious and extremely satisfying. It filled my stomach and my heart with warmth ,flavor and satisfaction. Now let's talk about the service we were greeted with kindness and a smile each server that we spoke to did more with a smile and a kind word and making our experience worth coming to the restaurant. The prices are reasonable large amount of food you get .The staff is amazing.. The ambience is very country very homie. It just makes you smile. The only thing I have to warn you about is if you are handicap and you are in a wheelchair, the bathrooms not so easy to maneuver. I had to leave my walker outside the bathroom to go into the bathroom, but they make up for it with having handrails for you to support yourself which compensates for the size of the bathroom. so just be prepared for that if you're a handicapped. This was a great surprise. Never judge a book by its cover. We ended up at this place by chance as our original choice for breakfast was on a 4 hour wait. Now let's get the important stuff out of the way. They only take cash or check so make an ATM run before coming. Also parking is not the best so beware as they seem to be packed all of the time. Our wait wasn't too bad thankfully. Once seated we had our drink orders taken and was given time to look at the menu. Get the sweet tea! They definitely make it correctly here although my son said it was too sweet. I decided on one of the breakfast combos that came with 2 eggs, grits, ham and the best freaking pancake! Ok.. where to stars? Honestly this place wasn't on my radar! My friends and I were planning breakfast at another place but the wait was 4 hours!! We looked through yelp and as usual, we weren't disappointed by the options. Doug & Lil's Potato Patch was a pleasant surprise.. everything from the wait (barely waited 10 mins) to the service and the food was perfect. I ordered 2 fried eggs, ham, and a pancake. Everything was good. The eggs were good, the ham was moist and the grits was yummy! The pancake... it stole the show. It was so delicious that I asked our waitress what the secret ingredient was. She told me buttermilk and they make their own batter. I also ordered a sweet tea with the intention of adding milk but I gotta tell you, their tea is really good and didn't need the milk. Firstly, didn't realize it was cash only until we got to the front door, no ATM, had to drive a few blocks to the bank and come back. I understand cash only is convenient for mom and pop shops but this isn't located in some backwoods area, it's right next to downtown. It would be convenient for customers to be able to pay with a card. Second, it was not that busy, and our food took around 40 minutes to come out. We got the standard breakfast, egg, hash brown, biscuit. My friend got a pancake and a side of grits. Everything was cold, I mean, mostly cold, barely luke warm if I'm being nice. I feel like our food was sitting there a while before it came out. Lastly, our waitress never checked on us, didn't ask us how anything was, and after waiting 15 minutes on a check my friend just went to the counter and was ignored by our waitress for a good 5 minutes until she asked if she could pay so we could get on with our day. Based on all of the good reviews we wanted to give this place a try. While I like the local hometown feel and vibe I'm not understanding the good reviews. To start there were flies everywhere. Everywhere!!!!!! Water is not complimentary and they only have bottled water for $1.50. The coffee was decent. My husband had the French toast which he said was the worse French toast he's every had. I had the corned beef hash and eggs which was good however the toast was cold and hash browns extremely greasy. When we got the bill and put down our credit card we were told they only take cash. Our fault slightly since we did see a sign on door when we were leaving. We had to write our name and phone number on check and walk 2 blocks to an ATM machine to get cash and go back to pay our bill. We will not be back mostly because we are from out of town and have no plans to come back to Deland. read more

We may not soon have the opportunity to eat here again soon, as we drove a bit to meet friends here, so this lone review may be accepted with a grain of salt. There is parking on both sides of the restaurant, so if you miss one entrance you should be able to catch the other. The restaurant has a country ambience to it with its decor and how they serve cold drinks in mason jars, for example, perhaps slightly offset by how many tables there are and their direct proximity to each other. However, in this (hopefully) post-pandemic and certainly post-vaccine time for us, the potential crush of customers is less concerning than it might have been several months earlier than this particulate visit. The food and the service were fine. I decided to try their egg sandwich because a picture on this Yelp site looked good, and I wasn't disappointed there. I added a side order of home fries that were tasty, though I confess I would have preferred them browned up more or at least hotter from the pan to my table. But they were well seasoned and there were no uneaten stragglers left on my plate when finished. My wife had a combo plate, including a rather large pancake with sugar free syrup, and a fried egg which she passed along to me, being rather tired of eggs as breakfast fare. Our friends have been to this restaurant before and enjoyed their choices as well. As I mentioned, I had checked the Potato Patch on Yelp, so I knew ahead of time they don't accept credit or debit cards, a good thing to know before you leave the house in this new era of contactless payments. And since there were no credit card register printouts needed, both of the orders for our table were totaled up on one sheet from her order pad, which we paid separately up front, leaving old fashioned cash tips on the table.
