Every time I've gotten food from here it's been amazing. From the steak and eggs to the deluxe breakfast sandwich, it's all been delicious. The steak is always cooked perfectly and juicy. Home fries are good. Hash browns are good and their grits are fantastic! Their sausage gravy and biscuits are superb. The sausage patty they use on the breakfast sandwich is HUGE!! It's the size of the Kaiser roll! Never have I had a sausage patty that big and delicious on a sandwich. In the 6 months I've lived near this place, I have yet to be disappointed. I really wanted to like this place but... my daughter's country fried steak was so thin it was mostly breading, my meatloaf sandwich looked like gyro meat, you can't have tap water and sodas come in cans. The kids got breakfast, and at least that seemed OK. Totally missed the cash or check only sign but luckily another patron gave us some cash and we just reimbursed her with cash app. I love to go to family owned businesses, but they need to get with the times. This place is awesome! Good food, good prices, great people. I went for breakfast didn't realize it was cash or check only. I was about to turn around and a guy gave me money for my breakfast. Never been here before, never met the guy before, but I know I will be coming back. If I see the guy again I will return the favor. Finally had cash on hand so I got to check out this DeLand favorite with a friend. BRING CASH. They don't accept any cards and the nearest ATM is at the gas station. I had the crab omelette (crab with a C and not a K) with hollandaise sauce and the breakfast potatoes and was not disappointed. I also had a side of sausage gravy with my biscuit. The omelette was fluffy and had a good amount of crab in it. The cheese was nice and gooey and the hollandaise sauce is served on the side so you can go crazy if you want to. Heck, dip the breakfast potatoes if you like, no judgement. The biscuit was nice but the sausage gravy was flavorless and not with the 2$. All in all I still highly recommend checking out the Potato Patch for breakfast, especially if you're a fan of real crab. read more

There is nothing better than waking up with my little boy and taking him out to breakfast. I have family in orange city and we come to vacation. This place is definitely a mom and pops place.. Which means fresh and made from scratch. Less junk and more real food. It was a Sunday when we went and I suggest you wake up early to get there! It's a very small place and it gets busy quickly. When we walked in everyone was very nice and polite. We got a seat very quickly and or server was very sweet. Everyone was very kid friendly, and it was nice and clean. The food was hot and the food was delicious! Especially the pancakes my friend ordered an omelette and loved it! Ill be coming here every year! What a hidden gem this place is! Established in 1998, this tiny restaurant that serves breakfast and lunch has a simple menu, with a lot flavor and good portion! First off, my description of tiny isn't an understatement. If you arrive later in the day, be prepared to wait! There isn't much seating, nor much parking outside. Our server was very nice and quick with getting what we needed. I ordered the steak and cheese omelet, which came with some hash browns (cooked to my liking), and a pancake on the side! The omelet was a good standard steak and white cheese omelet, and the pancake was big and fluffy! This place was better than your average "diner styled" breakfast. I was pleased with the staff and it was pretty cute inside. We had a party of eight so we did have to wait about 20 minutes, but it was a Saturday morning so I was happy to oblige. Everyone got something different and for the most part it was all pretty good. They have the option of choosing a pancake as your carb instead of toast or biscuit at no charge. The pancakes definitely tasted like they used a homemade batter. I was also impressed with how quickly they cooked up our breakfast. The only complaint I have is that one of the Ham Steak meals was pretty over cooked. Also, keep in mind that they accept cash or check only. It's a little inconvenient but there is an ATM a couples blocks over in both directions of the restaurant. I've been wanting to try this place for several years the parking has always been full during lunch so I've passed it by, fortunately I had the opportunity and finally gave it a try it's as solid of a place as most of the reviews state. Unfortunately I was the only one who had cash money so I paid for the entire tab i understand the concept but it still sucks they don't take plastic I see they also take checks I was unaware people still use checks but I guess some do. It's not the cheapest stop in town so bring a couple of twenties I'd say it gonna be about $10 - $12 a person average with your drink and tip. The interior decor is pure country flowers, roosters, plaid and plastic it's a little cramped but comfortable in a "I want to meet my neighbor" kind of way. The food is a home run lots of choices and it all looks good I chose a double cheese burger and chips. The burger was fresh and mammoth hand made patties fresh veggies and a super fresh bun definitely worth the price. The chips came in a bag I thought that was a nice touch since there is no need for all the servers to reach their hands into a food service size bag to load the plate plus the pickle juice doesn't get them all soggy. We are seldom up for breakfast, but the boyfriend needed to eat & this place popped up on the Yelp radar. It is located in a quaint little area (what looks to be a converted house) in downtown Deland. We arrived around 9ish on a Thursday morning & sat in a both. I went with the Crab Omelet with cream cheese recommended by our waitress. I chose the potatoes and pancake for my side. Everything came out hot, fresh & yummy--a perfect meal! So funny, because we still talk about this adorable establishment and can't wait to go back. June 24,2017 After seeing a gun show at the Deland Fair Grounds, we decided to eat lunch at a nice place with good Southern country food. I felt at home eating in this small and humble home like restaurant with roosters everywhere! We noticed Doug and Lil's Potato Patch was highly recommended on Yelp. The idea of having sweet Southern ice tea in mason jar and a good country fried steak appealed to me. The hubcap picked the same meal: soup, sweet tea, country fried steak, fried okra, and mashed potato. He had potato soup. I had pea and ham soup. The soup was served in giant coffee mugs. It filled us up quickly! Amazingly, the soups and large sweet teas in mason jars were the biggest highlights of our meal along with the fried okra. The last time I ate fried okra, I was a child. The fried okra here was cooked perfectly! The mash potato had some skins mixed in the potatoes was good. The country fried steak was good too. I wasn't amazed by both of them, but I had no complaints. We were given so much food and tea! Our meal: soup, steak, mashed potatoes, and okra was $10 a person. Super cheap! We brought home a lot of leftovers too. This place has phenomenal wait staff and the best Southern food I ever tasted in my life. The soup, southern style sweet tea, and fried okra are definite must try foods and drink here. Pros: location, as its not too far from downtown Deland. Options, breakfast or for the person who wants a burger at 9 am. Presentation, loved the Mason jars to serve drinks and the food comes out clean and looking delish. Taste, the tea is southern sweet, the sausage gravy truly had big chunks of sausage! Service, fast and sweet as can be. They truly make you feel like a regular and keeps up with everything you need. Oh and I really wanted to give them the extra star, but my dad argued a valid point. Cons: The WAIT!! Though we were seated fast in about 10 min. We waited over a half hour for our food. I'll admit, my server warned me, but still the wait was just too long. My dad argued he had his limit of 2 cups of coffee 20 minutes before our food arrived. The bathroom. It's clean, but the falling duct tape leaves me questioning what's going to pop out from behind it. Once these things are fixed I definitely will up the stars to 5. Let me address the amazing food and service first off. This place was very welcoming to me when I walked in. I had a very kind waitress who was the most accommodative waitress I've had all year long. She made sure my tea was always filled (which only happened once since it was SO big), and she even took my pancake back for me because it was slightly overcooked. Even though it was only the slightest bit overcooked, she insisted on it being perfect and within minutes it was back on my table. The pancake was the star of the show today as it was so buttery and delicious, with hot syrup, and cooked to perfection. The omelet was also quite tasty. I especially loved the fresh garnish. All served up with zesty and delicious potatoes (I think they were home fries?). What went wrong? Well, when the waitress brought out the pancake I think the chef was quite mad. He sat besides my table, seemingly waiting for me to complain about them but I didn't, I enjoyed every bite. The place is all very quaint and close together so the customers at the bar initiated in a conversation. One lady was talking politics and the chef did not agree with what she had to say. They got into a heated argument which was just a little uncomfortable for everyone around them. I was just there for breakfast, not an argument that was clearly going nowhere. At least the food was amazing and service was fast. I don't think that always happens but it happened to hinder my experience. Also very minor but there was a drop of water falling every now and then from the ceiling. I plan on returning to this place to check it out again as it was reasonably affordable (all my food was $12 total) and SO tasty.
