While walking around downtown Deland we stumbled across The Half Wall and decided to give it a try. When you first walk in everything is dark wood and they have a pretty big bar but we opted for outdoor seating. Our server greeted us and handed our menus. They have a pretty basic menu full of goodies. We ordered the Fish and Chips, Grilled Cheese, and a Chicken Sandwich. The food came out in a timely manner and everything was good. The star of the show was the fish, it was a big piece and tasted fresh, seasoned really well. The chicken sandwich and grilled cheese sandwich were average as well as their fries. Just be careful sitting outside because there was bee's and flies that were annoying but we managed. If in Deland again I'd probably come back. read more

Visited on a Sunday afternoon in January. Great downtown spot to grab a craft beer and watch a game. TVs are within view at every seat & table so you won't miss any action. The place was very busy with a deafening volume from patrons. Although it was hard to to carry on a conversation across the table, the lively clientele added to the overall atmosphere, so no complaints. While our server was kind, he was slow and made infrequent visits to our party of 5. Drinks were brought out at random timings and refills were never offered. We had to flag him down to place our order and again to get the check. I understand the place was busy and I was a server before. However, when you've got assistance bussing and running food to tables, there's little room for excuses. The entrees were very well prepared and the food quantity was impressive! You won't leave hungry, that is for sure! I noticed many patrons eating half of their entrees or less before needing to-go boxes. I couldn't help saying "wow" as I'd see huge trays of delicious looking apps & entrees passing by. If it had been a nicer day, we would've joined others on the patio but then again, we would've missed the interior ambience. Definitely would return to Half Wall next time I'm in Deland. read more

Nice place, very accommodating. We sat outside, Liz was out server, she let us do whatever we wanted to fit out family outside, very kind to the grandkids, I love it when peo0le are engaging with the little ones. Kudos. My cousins came to visit from Georgia and I took him to the half wall like most people insist on going to when they come visit me! It is so delicious and they are nachos. This past weekend my mother in law was visiting from New Hampshire and is a big northeast food snob. There is great destination for any picky eater or foodie! Was strolling through downtown DeLand looking for a spot to eat. Being that it was New Year's Day, a lot of places were closed, but we happened upon this little spot and the aroma coming from inside drew us in. The menu was pretty decent. We got the green fried tomatoes as an appetizer and it was delicious. I had an avocado burger with no bun and I requested it medium and it was cooked the way I like it and it was very delicious. Called to place an order to pick up and lady said can you hold one min place phone on bar 8:00 later I hung up tired of listening to her and the customers talk. Tried for over 45 minute kept getting a this mailbox is not set up. This is not the first time it has happened that someone did not hang up phone. I arrive and my food is sitting in corner and no one asks do I need help for at least 5 min. I have to go get my own bags and take to register to be checked out. A standard keg has 165 (assume 150 for loss) twelve ounce draws = making $1087 on one standard keg of Sam Adams that costs @ $225. This place has been around for a while and I usually go whenever my husband and his brother want to go to a Stetson basketball game. It's really the best place to grab some quick bar food. The nachos are pretty popular so it's worth ordering! The Philly steak came with a lot of meat but the bun wasn't strong enough to hold it all. That was a bummer but overall the meat was great. The fish was huge , went from one side of the plate to the other side, was crispy and not greasy and the chips were crispy and creamy in side. Again.. didn't get what we ordered with our Togo order. Wife ordered a cowboy burger with no onion... came slathered with onion and the onion was under the cheese so she had to completely disassemble her burger and scrape the onions off. I ordered a patty melt with Mayo on the side and cole slaw. No Mayo in the bag, and the slaw was basically shredded cabbage. No slaw sauce, no vinegar, no seasoning... just plain shredded cabbage. My fault. I should have checked everything before I left and I'll be sure I do from now on as I live 20 minutes from the restaurant and sure wasn't going to drive all the way back. Buyer beware... check your food before you leave. This isn't the first time this has happened but it will be the last because I'll open everything up on the bar before I leave. read more

During our wait all of us looked at the mounted menu, so once we're seated nobody would waste anytime. 20 minutes passes by and all of us were walked to our seats. The tables were mostly high-tops with a few regular tables and a few outside as well. For drinks my wife ordered tihe raspberry lemon drop martini, this had Ketel one vodka, raspberry liquor and sour mix with a sugar rim. It was more of a brownish red color but she said it was delicious. I had three of them... I ordered the espresso martini, which had vanilla vodka, Kahlua and fresh brewed espresso. I loved this and also ordered 3 of them. For appetizer we ordered the boom-boom shrimp which were sauteed shrimp topped with cilantro and served with spicy boom-boom sauce for dipping. We got about 8 decent sized shrimp, and they were delicious. I could have definitely eaten more of them! Our friends ordered the buffalo chicken tenders and fries, they had about 4 really big tenders with a huge plate of fries. This very well could have been a meal. They were also very delicious. For our entrees my wife ordered a classic cheeseburger. When she goes to new places sometimes she gets worried about not liking the food, so she orders something simple but everything was delicious. The burger was cooked perfectly to her liking, topped with cheddar cheese and really crispy bacon. It also came with fries, they were more of a thicker cut and super crispy. It was a really delicious burger. I ordered the Mahi sandwich which was blackened and served with a dill sauce and fries. I'm usually not a fan of sauces, I forgot to ask for it on the side and it was pretty covered in the sauce. The sauce was good, but I would have preferred to dip the sandwich in the sauce, and it would have been less messy. But the fish was really good, not a fishy taste at all, and it was cooked really well. I also substituted the fries for a side salad which was a nice size for a side. All in all, this is a really good pub style restaurant. The atmosphere caters to sports fans primarily. We really enjoyed our food; we would definitely go back more if it wasn't so far. But when we visit our friends, we might just have to make a trip over there. read more

I Love Half Wall! This is one of my go-to places in Deland. The food is good. My favorite things are the Greek salad with chicken or the turkey sandwich. They have other delicious offerings but for some reason I love these two options. Half wall has a restaurant-bar vibe so it's definitely casual. The service is the real winner tho. I stopped into Half Wall for a bite after spending the day at Blue Spring Park. I enjoyed the wide selection of beers on tap and ultimately went with their own Orange Crush after some deliberation. I needed something refreshing and light, so that was a great choice. The Reuben I got was packed with corned beef and came with fries on the side. 4.5 Review for me. Great central location and I appreciate that they are open later than most restaurants in the area. Arrived on a Saturday night at 7pm with a friend. We were a party of 2 and there was a 10-15 minute wait. There was seating outside, however we opted to eat inside. The waitress up front was kind and we got placed at a clean high top. Our waiter got our order in in a timely manner as well as our beer & water. My friend and I split the nachos for an appetizer and the Half wall burger for our main meal. The nachos were everything we were craving. The beer cheese was delicious. You could totally order that as your entree if you wanted and I love how plenty to share at a table with friends. The burger has bacon and egg was a bit over seasoned with what we thought was oregano or basil but it was still good. Left with full tummy's and got our check quickly. Bathrooms were clean as well.
