Had a great time at Swamp House! It's exactly what you'd expect from a classic old restaurant on the river--not the fanciest inside, but the food really impressed me. The fried pickles were excellent, and the buffalo wrap was delicious. Drinks were cheap and tasty too, which was a nice surprise. The main reason for my 4-star rating is that the food took a while to come out, but once it did, it was worth the wait. The restaurant has a nice setup with an air-conditioned indoor dining area upstairs and a casual outdoor bar and tables along the marina downstairs. We pulled up by boat, and while they have about eight boat slips, I think they could definitely use more. Overall, it was a fun experience with great food, and I'd happily come back again soon! Came up from Orlando to see the Manatees with wifey and she found this absolutely diamond of a location. Easy solid four or more, something like a five. Was a time I didn't feel that way about this place but everybody gets second chances and the food here's been really very good lately. You can see the servers enjoy working here and they've got a floor manager who really cares. Good on them. So, they do a Great burger, the Cuban is very good too (who knew?), grouper reuben's been good, and the fish and chips is consistently delicious and is pretty much why we've been visiting with greater frequency. Dad Loves his fish and chips and a few of our regular places have shuttered up. It's on the pricier side here, but so very worth it. You'd have to have a hollow leg to finish it! read more

We dined at Swamp House on a Saturday night which was busy - we had a 15 minute wait to be seated and didn't see our server much while dining, he was rushing around. There are views of the marina from some areas of the dining room. Food was good - we both got the blackened mahi sandwiches. My husband had the Swamp Water orange-flavored cocktail which he said was average. We won't go out of our way to come back but it seems to be a popular spot for locals! read more

The only reason they get a 3 is cause the food was good. However service was horrible. We sat down and waited for someone to come to our table (as instructed by an employee) which took a few. Then we put our orders in and got our drinks. The food took about 20 mins, and our drinks stayed empty for about 10 mins. When the food runner brought our food I had to ask for more drinks. Then one of the orders was for the Blackened trio. Before we ordered i asked if it could be grill and she said yes, so thats how it was ordered, but when they brought it out it was blackened. We ordered different sides than it showed that it came with, but ended up getting what it came with instead of what we ordered. The manager was told of all the issue. He brought us the correct sides, but after sitting there with empty drinks, excessive wait time for the food then the wrong food it was just a bad experience. After eating we waited another 15 before we had to go ask for our check. For the hour and 43 mins we were there we saw an employee 3 times. This is inside an RV park and it seems like they catered to the regulars, not new customers. read more

I live less than a mile from this "place". Went in tonight to swap out a t-shirt purchase due to a sizing issue and was refused because I did not have a receipt...customer service at its finest! I then asked the hostess to sit at a high top near the bar. It was at this point that the hostess was told by the bartender (?) that he could not keep up with the current crowd and not to seat us in that area (maybe not send home the tiki bar bartender due to cold weather and have that person help?). It was at this point I expressed my displeasure and decided to exit this "place"....and was sarcastically told by the bartender to "Have a nice night!". My bride and myself went up the road to O'Leary's and had a great evening! The Swamphouse can scratch me off as future customer. It really sucks that a place that's less than a mile away from my house is so inconsistent on all levels. read more

My wife and I met my brother and his wife at the Swamp House Riverfront Grille. It was the first time for all of us. We all live about 2 hours apart from each other and the Swamp House was about halfway. Our first impression was very positive. The grounds around the Swamp House, the Docks, the Views of the St. Johns River and the Campground are all first rate. The atmosphere inside is really great. It is fun homey with plenty of space for dining and a nice bar. Just makes you feel welcome. My wife ordered the Blackened Shrimp diner which she loved. I had the jambalaya, it was OK not as good as the way my wife makes. My brother had a hamburger and his wife had a shrimp dish. They both were very happy and satisfied. Angela was our server. She was great with a wonderful personality. She really knew the menu and made good recommendations. It was obvious Angela enjoys her job as a server and it shows. She is a credit to the Swamp House. As we walked in the front door, we loved the rustic casual atmosphere. The staff were very friendly. We began our meal with gator bites and green fried tomatoes. Both very good!! For our lunch we enjoyed the Mahi Rueben ( 2 each ) served on thick marble rye bread , 2 grilled fish sandwich, shrimp taco's, children chicken tenders ( great portion and quality). Busy restaurant and still attentive service. As we were leaving the restaurant, the managers asked how everything was. I told them very good. This restaurant is a definitely a must try!! Service was a little slow since there was only one server for the five tables. This place is fun and inviting for sure, and tucked away in the country far from the hustle and bustle of Orlando. Everyone is nice and kind and makes sure you feel welcomed. Unfortunately the food had left us a little disappointed for the prices they are charging. The size portion was okay, but everything was very bland. When we put salt on it it helped a little, but it just lacked flavor overall. Maybe if I tried something different my thoughts would be changed regarding the food. Don't be deceived by the dive-bar like outside. This place has everything a fish restaurant on the water should. I'm fact, I'd go as far to say this was probably the best mid-day boating lunch stop that I've been too. The menu had plenty to choose for everyone. Great selection of beers on draft and bottled. Holy cow were they the star of the show. Delicious! And the tartar dipping sauce they came with, a little spicy and a little sweet, was unique and made for the perfect bite. Even my 10 month old was scarfing them down. We all ordered blackened fish sandwiches for lunch. It was a pretty big piece of fish for one sandwich. Seasoned perfectly and actually and very filling. It came with that spicy sweet tartar sauce again, which gave it even more flavor. All around a delicious bite. Mine was served with coleslaw which, while no frills, was still very tasty. This place is certainly the hotspot on the weekends. Understandably. Located right by the water, boats can park at their dock and come on up for a good lunch. It's about 10 minutes from Blue Springs. When we arrived it was a 45 minute wait and this was no joke. We were informed they were understaffed in the kitchen and behind. We were starving and the food sounded good so we decided to wait it out. Afterall it would take this long to go somewhere else with the sparce selection locally. Once we were finally seated it took an average amount of time to order and recieve our food. Everything we ordered was good. They have a good selection of seafood and Louisiana style dishes. I got the crab cake sandwhich and I loved it. My husband got the gator bites and really enjoyed it. The onion rings were delicious. Our son liked his kids meal. He also got a strawberry milkshake which wasn't that great but otherwise we all enjoyed our food. Service was lacking but the good food made up for it. I understand limited seating when understaffed but it did surprise me to see chairs upside down on adjacent tables and employees hanging around. I know it was the kitchen staff that was understaffed but it's not a great look after waiting close to a hour to be seated. Overall we would return if in the area but perhaps when we don't mind waiting. read more

Stopped by for lunch while boating. Sat outside and service was absolutely terrible. Hardly came around. We ordered several appetizers like gater bites, wings, smoked fish dip. Gater bites were good and wings were "ok" and didn't care for fish dip...too weird of Smokey flavor. Ordered the grouper sandwich and it was so bad! It was like biting into shoe leather. We have been there before a few years ago and it was good but this time not so much. Also, they had 2 different menus...one for the outside and another for the inside which we thought was ridiculous! Super happy we finally got here! Goal was to be there for the sunset and boy was it beautiful! Not far from Blue Springs either. A lovely place to dock and have a drink and/or meal on a warm(hot) Florida day. Absolutely recommend. We were visiting our buddy who lives in Florida and keeps sending us pictures from this fabulous place. Naturally we asked him to take us there. It was wonderful! Easy going atmosphere and mask free! Which was a change for me coming from heavy and I mean heavy mask wearing California. Great place to spend my first day of freedom eating appetizers and drinking beer. We had conch fritters. Holy huge portions! This place has the average St John's River bar and grill vibe. It seemed like the building was split-the top being Swamp House and the bottom being some kind of place with live music? Both were pretty busy when we showed up at 1:30 on a Saturday. Service was fast and friendly! Our waters stayed filled and we had a few different people touch the table to make sure everything was good and we didn't need anything. Food was great! We stopped by here on our way to Blue Springs. We love that they have boat parking, which makes it super convenient. The inside is very Florida Swamp with lots of merch and sassy signs for sale. The service was great. Our waitress kept all drinks filled and delivered everything in a timely matter. She was really nice! For appetizers, we got fried gator bites, fried green tomatoes, and swamp skins (loaded potato skins) the gator was a bit chewy, but otherwise we loved all the apps. For an entree, I got grilled teriyaki chicken with grilled pineapple, white rice, and a side of plantains. The presentation was definitely minimal effort, but the food was yummy. You didn't get near the amount of food as before, yet the price was a lot higher. Our server was shocked when they brought out my husbands catfish dinner. Two tiny fillets on the plate and we both reacted. The server was embarrassed and told the girl who brought the food out "this is not right". They did bring out a nice size fillet after that.
