Calo's can't miss. I usually get the chicken fajitas. I've gotten the burrito before when really hungry because it huge and filling. Today I got the ribeye enchiladas and they were awesome. Then when we had our monthly staff lunch, my staff had such a great time they said let's come back again. They all got the calo's combos. So they had the Mexican corn, the rice, the beans. They just really loved them. Also one of my staff brought her daughter and she had a quesadilla, and she said I had the best time with my mom. So if you come to Calo's, it's good for the whole family and the staff and the team. read more

It's time to update my review. This is actually one of my favorite places. What I like best about this place is that they use only fresh ingredients to make their margaritas. I was unhappy when they changed to a cheaper tequila for my caddies. But they actually have a nice variety of other tequilas to choose from. I started requesting the Fortaleza Blanco which is amazing. They don't always have this in stock. Based on a recommendation, I tried Chinaco Blanco which has a great flavor. There are others tequilas that I plan to try also. So I'm back! The service is excellent! Our favorite servers are Ruby and Elizabeth, who always treat us amazingly! So we are regulars here. We usually sit on the patio. Which is perfect. Some days it gets too hot so we go indoors for the a/c. The booths are ok and sitting at the bar is fun watching your drinks get made. The food is really good but don't expect authentic Mexican food like your abuelita used to make. I only mention this so you don't go here expecting it to be like Los Compadres. Everything is very tasty and they use high quality ingredients. My favorites are the rib eye tacos, the shrimp fajitas, the chili verde, and the shrimp chimichanga. They use jumbo shrimp so any shrimp dish is great. One small complaint: I wish the refried means were more authentic. . For dessert, there are churros and flan to choose from!! read more

Came here for a date night before a jazz concert, and it was the perfect way to start the evening. We started with a Cadillac margarita and a blackberry margarita. Both were excellent, well balanced, and made with quality tequila. The shrimp taquitos disappeared fast and were easily one of the highlights of the meal. For our entrees, I ordered the lobster and shrimp enchiladas. They were rich, creamy, and loaded with seafood. The rice and black beans were seasoned well, which I always appreciate because sides can make or break a meal. My date had the rib eye tacos, and the steak was cooked perfectly and incredibly tender. The cheesy potatoes underneath were so good I had to steal a few bites. What really elevated the experience was our waiter, Anderson. He was an absolute delight. Friendly, attentive, and personable without hovering over the table. Service like that makes a difference. The ambiance was warm and inviting, making it a great date night spot. Since it's only minutes from my daughter's office, she was able to join us too. My cousin is a March baby, but we still had to celebrate her birthday! This time, we decided to sit on the patio, and I'm so glad we did. I knew we were going to be deep in conversation, so I asked if we could have one of their nicest, quieter tables and they delivered. It was lovely, with a nice breeze and much more peaceful than sitting inside. The food was to me satisfying. I ordered the two-item combo (beef hard shell taco + chicken enchilada) with rice and beans, so satisfying. They also start you off with complimentary chips, salsa, and beans, which were delicious. My daughter's camarones had HUGE shrimp, and my cousin loved her chicken and asada tacos. Drinks were just as yummy; a lemon drop for me and a pineapple margarita for her. We mentioned it was my cousin's birthday, and the staff kindly helped us celebrate with a belated cake, which was such a nice touch. My partner ordered on the ($31) hidden combo menu: 2 chicken enchiladas and 1 shredded beef taco. Neither were available on the main menu. And he approved. The chips with the beans and salsa were good. The chips were superior. The beans were good. The salsa was decent. The service was great. Except the 2nd round of iced tea took way too long. Caló is one of my favorite Mexican restaurants down here in the South Bay. It's definitely a "treat yourself" kind of restaurant though, as it's pricier/more upscale compared to your typical Mexican restaurants. They're definitely aiming for fancy rather than homey. That being said, the vibes are excellent, with Mexican music playing over the speakers and warm mood lighting; the servers are exceptionally friendly and attentive; and the flavors of the food are nice and bold. The beans here are like crack, I could *not* stop eating them. And the short rib enchiladas were equally amazing, I wish I had more! Desserts are for some reason not listed on the menu, but when my family and I went for my mom's birthday, there was a choice between: churros, flan, fried ice cream, and tres leches. We chose the tres leches, which was everything I could've hoped for in this dessert, and we inhaled it before I remembered to even get a picture! Nice and sweet, soaked in milk, and dusted with a good layer of cinnamon. Overall, Caló is a strong choice for anyone looking for a fancy meal with great ambiance and amazing service. read more

Calo is always one of our absolute favorite spots! I've been bringing family and friends here for a while, and the service and food quality have stayed consistently amazing--even as prices have shifted over time, the quality has never dropped. They always welcome you with delicious fresh chips, black refried beans, and salsa, and they're incredibly generous with refills. Some of my go-to favorites are the nachos, the fish tacos, and the tampiqueña with the enchilada, but honestly, every single plate is packed with flavor. To drink, you have to try the "Mexico City"--it's a hibiscus martini and easily my top pick! A quick tip: It gets very busy, and the space is a bit small for larger parties (though they always do their best to accommodate). The Fajitas Avocado Salad was delicious! I added protein of chicken, that made it more filling. The Salad could definitely feed two people. The taste was great, there were adequate amounts of sweet, tangy and the grilled chicken added a nice fire roasted effect. The service was great, it was a little busy but not a bother as I was attended to quickly. Ambiance was a somewhat romantic and casual setting at the same time. You could come with a couple of friends and have seating on the patio which has a larger area in my opinion. The menu has plenty to choose from and didn't skimp on portion size. She really was a gem and extremely helpful and attentive. Tried the Beef queso tacos (birria) appetizer and they were quite tasty. Comes with 5-MINI tacos for $28. Based on the taste, I would definitely get them again. Price point wise...I don't think it was worth it. Also decided to share the Smokey Ceasar salad (with ribeye on top.) We were not pleased with this. It was just all wrong. The salad was flimsy and so was the steak. It looked good and based on the description, I thought that it would be full of flavor. It was not! Steak was also kinda rubbery and looked low quality. No one in the party finished it. This also was not cheap, so it was disappointing not to be able to finish it. As far as cocktails go, they don't miss here. The blackberry margaritas are the best I've had. Although it appears that the prices may have gone up slightly since my last visit, the food & drinks are overall good. I'll just stay away from the salads. Two cocktails each, two appetizers and a shareable salad (that we didn't eat), was $200 (pre-tip). A little hefty, so this is definitely a once in a while treat. read more

Great app to share! The nachos also are huge!!!! Mother and I both got the lobster and shrimp enchiladas and my friend got the rib eye enchiladas?? They were both good! I asked for spicy habanero which paired perfectly with my entree and I preferred the seafood over the beef. Both still awesome! I got the short rib enchiladas. It was so disappointing that I didn't even complain to anyone at the restaurant. Two of us ordered them. And two of us hated them. Hate. The short rib was cooked well then ruined by all the dressings and things. The enchiladas were covered in a gross sauce and cheese that looked and tasted like a terrible quality Colby Jack. The sauce wasn't a green or red it was orange. I'm daring so I went for it. This is an example of doing too much but not enough. The people giving great reviews for the short rib enchiladas must be cousins of the owners. I'm super perturbed. Six of us at the table...no alcohol was ordered. Only one person liked her meal. And the black beans are lard laced so the folks who don't want pork and beans when they've ordered black beans should steer clear. The bill was high the experience was low. It's a no for me. Days later and I'm going to Javier's to get my lobster enchiladas so I can try to erase the memory of the short rib enchilada experiment at this spot. It's a shame because the restaurant is cute. But the food and the cost for sub-par grub is not cute. read more

To start the host was not friendly whatsoever.Our wait time kept getting shifted and ended up waiting for about an hour. They sat us down and didnt bother to sweep under our table that had food all over. I had to ask for them to sweep. Our waitress was trying to be nice but it felt like she didn't want us there. I had the short rib enchiladas that were not as great as people had reviewed. In the past we had a manager apologize & gave us a gift card since the kitchen took so long for our food. Food is simply delicious. The black beans side and short rib enchilada and everything else is very flavorful. Blackberry cocktail is supposedly organic and is delicious. I think some of their chicken selections are organic. I hope they eventually expand to a full organic menu, especially with the report of so many different restaurants testing positive for glyphosate. That report is really dictating where I eat. The US food supply is literally poison and restaurants that focus on organic food supplies will thrive. Overall this place is worth the visit. Flavors did not disappoint. read more
