We'd highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a special cake! Cero and his team brought our vision to life. We came in with only a vague idea of what we wanted. With Cero's help and many years of experience, we were able to come up with a design we loved. The cake tasted and looked great. They offer free cake tasting - they have so many flavors of sponge, fillings, and cream/frosting. So don't hesitate to stop by. They also offer delivery (within a certain distance) for $50. Someone came to assemble the cake at our venue at the scheduled time. It was so relieving to have this! read more

I wanted to express my sincere thanks to Cero for accommodating my order on such short notice. I know it's generally not recommended to request a custom chocolate drip cake with such a limited timeframe, so I truly appreciated the effort and flexibility shown to make it happen. For our wedding reception, I had a cake place in mind, but turned out I didn't like their cakes. So I contacted Cake Expressions a month before the event hoping it wasn't too short of notice. Cero emailed back that it was enough time, so we quickly scheduled a cake tasting. We selected a two-tier cake with one tier of burnt almond and one tier of princess cake. I wanted to add a custom cake topper and fresh flowers. Cero said to provide them the day of delivery and they would decorate the cake with them. When I arrived at the venue and saw the cake, I was more than pleased. It was understated (as I wanted) and beautifully decorated. As expected, the cakes were delicious! The only negative is that they forgot to bring a cake box for leftovers, so staff at the venue had to wrap it in foil. Not worth taking off a star IMO. I would definitely recommend and would use Cake Expressions again! read more

I don't even know how to fully describe how WOW our experience with cake expressions was. Cero and his team are so kind and easy to work with. We had a fantastic cake consultation that we scheduled via email. Once we arrived, we were greeted warmly and it was actually so difficult to narrow down which flavors we wanted since all of them were delicious! We ended up choosing the mango and carrot cake for a simple two tier cake and the mille foglie which was the showstopper of the evening. These are NOT dense overly sweet cakes, they are light fluffy masterpieces. Once Cero arrived during our pre arranged delivery time, he beautifully placed flowers exactly how my inspo photo looked. I'm looking forward to order more custom cakes in the future! read more

Cake was not something we cared about, and were originally going to skip it, but after going to the free cake tasting and seeing their prices, we decided to get one in case any of our guests wanted it. They were straightforward and easy to work with, and their prices are super affordable for the Bay Area. On our wedding day, they delivered the cake as agreed upon, and our coordinator and florist worked with them to make sure it was decorated. Our family was having a party for around 70 people and I decided I wanted to have a small dessert table spread. I reached out to multiple bakeries to inquire about pricing for a variety of desserts and prices were so high compared to Cake Expressions. I reached out to Cake Expressions via email just to get a quote on how much it would be for mini cupcakes. I had the pleasure of having a conversation via email with Katherine! She was very sweet and gave me all the information that I was looking for. We were even able to discuss what kind of cupcake design I wanted (gold dusting). Katherine was also extremely patient with me as I had so many questions! As for the pricing, they are very affordable and fair! I decided to buy 36 mini guava cupcakes, 36 mini mango cupcakes, and 36 brownies! We decided to pick up the desserts ourselves because delivery to the venue (Milpitas) would have been an extra $40. When I went in to pay for the cupcakes the week of the event, another lady helped me and I saw the order that Katherine had been putting together for me! I loved that she was detailed in what kind of design I wanted and she even attached a photo of an inspirational photo I sent her via email. Out of the 3 desserts I ordered, I think the brownies were my favorite. For the guava and mango cupcakes, unfortunately, the flavor wasn't very strong. The guava cupcakes were pink and the mango cupcakes were green. The mango cupcakes ended up staining a few teeth and a few lips of some of our guests, but it came out after a quick wash. I would definitely order from Cake Expressions again! And thank you Katherine for helping me with my order! read more

Cero, the owner created an outstanding, stunning wedding cake. Our vision for the "Dream Wedding Cake" was realized. From the start, Cero understood what my daughter wanted her cake to look like. She brought photos, and he understood we were going for an elegant, large cake. At the shop we saw a display cake with a base and a topper he stated he rents out. It was so beautiful, and my daughter knew that is what she wanted. They provide a wonderfully sample of cake flavors. It all looked so scrumptious and beautiful in colors. This in itself, was enough to make us think that it was the right bakery for us. Superb! Cero delivered the cake, and became a major focal point of the evening. Came to visit the famous Cero for cake tasting for our upcoming wedding and it was an awesome experience! We came by on a 6:30 pm afternoon and were promptly greeted and seated by Cero. He brought us out around 12 different cake flavors to taste which were all awesome and delicious with tons of variety! There were fruity flavors as well as chocolatey/classic flavors not to mention other varieties as well. It was such a wonderful experience it didn't take us time to book our order! This is a mom and pop shop so don't expect fancy but expect homey and delicious cakes! Definitely support this awesome business and meet the man Cero himself! read more

We got our wedding cake via Cake Expressions and it was the best decision. They are a preferred vendor with our hotel but we didn't expect to meet such a sweet owner, to have such a hard time picking a flavor we preferred (just barely got it in before the deadline), or to have multiple guests come up to us after the day to tell us that the cake was so yummy. They also did our design perfectly and with hardly any direction other than a few notes. All in all a great experience working with them. read more

Cake Expressions was one of the preferred vendors for our venue. I'm so glad that they recommended this place! It was easy to schedule a cake tasting appointment. I would highly suggest calling them directly as it's a lot quicker to get a hold of them than receiving a response via email. On the day of the tasting, we were able to try all the different flavors at no extra cost. We shortly thereafter had the initial consultation for our wedding cake in terms of cost, design, and other logistics. Since we were not too selective, we decided on the kind of filling, frosting, and design along with putting down the deposit that day. To give the cake some contrast, we agreed to have alternating smooth and comb texture. We ended up getting a three-tier wedding cake with strawberry cream, red velvet, and white cream that were 6, 10, and 14-inch tiers respectively. The cake was delivered to our venue (Hakone) on time. At the reception, there were endless compliments on how great the cake tasted. Everyone loved that our wedding cake had three different flavors. One of our guests even ate 3 slices of the strawberry cream since it was so tasty. The cake was indeed moist and fluffy. Frosting was delicious and not heavy/overly sweet. They even helped us place our favorite cake topper on our big day. We also rented a 4" cake stand that gave the cake more height and that magnificent appearance. I definitely recommend trusting Cake Expressions with your wedding cake. Oh, I'm also trading a first anniversary cake for an 8 x 10 photo of my cake - yes, that's a thing! read more

As we started our wedding planning, I was most excited to taste cakes. I was excited to go to all of the cake shops in the area and eat all the cake that I could - but sadly that dream didn't come true because we went to Cake Expressions and it was so damn good, that we didn't need to go anywhere! Cero has an incredible gift - our cake not only looked amazing, but tasted amazing. We went with all the cakes as we tasted them - Carrot Cake, Tiramisu Cream, and a Chocolate Raspberry - they were all delicious. E-mailed cake expressions, on a whim. We have orders wedding cakes and cupcakes from here multiple times and they're always beautiful and delicious. Had to review because we had an emergency order for my sisters gender reveal cake. We had originally ordered from sugar, butter,flour in Sunnyvale a week in advance. After the owner confirmed. They ended up canceling on us 2 days later. I sent an email to cake expressions on a last chance miracle that they would be able to make our custom cake with just 4 days notice. Someone called me within 15-20 mins after sending my email saying they can fulfill our order. She stated they were in fact busy, but after reading my email she knew they had to get this done for us. Not only did they have it done in only 4 days it came out beautiful and delicious. 1000% recommend. read more

From our first consultation to our wedding day, Haley and Cero were helpful and communicative in bringing my vision to life! The cake was beautiful and tasted great. However, it was a little inconsistent in terms of consistency some tiers were so beautifully moist and perfect, but some other tiers were drier than expected. The team was so flexible in allowing us to customize the flavors that best suited our palate. I loved that each tier of our cake was a different flavor that allowed our guests to enjoy a variety of flavors. A star was knocked off primarily due to communication and consistency. On our wedding day, Cero was the one who delivered the cake; communication between Cero and our coordinator was not very clear in terms of arrival time (due to traffic as our venue was a little out of the way), and things that had to be done after set up were not clearly communicated (cake decoration). Overall, we did have a great experience with Cake Expressions and we will consider their services in the future! read more

So pleased with the experience and results from Cake Expressions! The tasting was great; there are so many tasty flavors to try (for free), and we were able to pay a little extra to try some of their specialty flavors. Love that you can order different cake flavors and fillings for each layer! We wanted a more colorful design for our wedding cake, and Haley did a great job working with us to get it just right! Everything was set up by the time we arrived at the venue. It tasted heavenly, as did the cupcakes we ordered to accommodate different dietary needs. Everyone that had some loved it. Look at my beautiful cake!!! Thank you so much Cero and your team for making the perfect wedding cake! I emailed them a few months before my wedding and the owner Cero replied immediately and scheduled a cake tasting for my family since I live out of state. His team served my family and were so patient and kind to them. The staff was amazing and answered all questions they had. They also warned us about teeth staining since that's what black frosting does to you. They suggested that we use fondant so people could peel it off the cake. Day of wedding, they delivered the cake a hour before the ceremony started as requested and set up the cake on the table. Cake was delicious and everyone loved it!! I highly recommend them! Established in 1980.

After working part time at the finest pastry shops in San Francisco in the late 70's. I decided to make baking and cake decorating my career and opened Cake Expressions on my birthday in 1980. Over the years my love of cake decorating has grown, and so has our reputation for delicious cakes and exceptional customer service. I have the pleasure to work with the finest most dedicated professionals and together with our many years of combined experience we can truly offer cakes of exceptional style and taste. Twice honored as Best of the Knot, by BayArea brides. We were the first South Bay bakery to offer private one on one consultations and to add the delicious flavors of Tira Misu and Mango Cream cake to our list of many cake varieties.

Meet the Business Owner: Cero A.

Hello! My name is Cero Anthony. I apprenticed in cake decoration at the Court of Two Sisters in San Francisco and worked with the the world-renowned pastry chef Max Ackerman of Hansel and Gretel in Los Gatos. I started "Cake Express" in 1980, and within two years I was specializing in wedding cakes and changed the name to, "Cake Expressions" to reflect our dedication to excellence and service. Working with so many wonderful brides and grooms and staying current and up to date with the many new styles and trends is what continues to make my work so rewarding.

In comparison to premium bakeries in SF, Palo Alto, or even Los Gatos, this was disappointing. I would think it would be better to pull the one or two pastries in that tray. Heck, even Paris Baguette would pull whole trays if it didn't fit their quality standard. (But I don't know if that's still true haha.) Given its premium pricing of $8-15 a pastry, I would expect all the qualities that would justify it. They are a step above bakeries who have frozen products, but do not hit the level of premium in quality of pastry. The prices they had in the beginning were fair, but with the recent increase along with those issues, I'm sad to rate it lower.

The chocolate chip cookies are similar to Levain's since it's a thick and gooey cookie loaded with lots of chocolate chips. They only sell their cookies in packs of 4, and they also have milk in their little fridge. Since I can't eat all the cookies in one sitting, I like to freeze the rest and preheat them in the oven for that freshly baked cookie vibe. They're tucked away in an unassuming little building behind a gas station, but there's ample parking.

There is the main seating area and another area in the back to sit down along with sitting outside. It felt upscale and nice. The sign in front of the store had some drink specials and I got a strawberry/matcha drink I think it was called Rose. I asked what was good here and the cashier said the mini almond pastries and other treats in the front. The mini almond pastry was really good and also got a crème brûlée which was really good as well. I would come back again and try their hot teas next time. Delicious treats. So when it was time for my wedding, I knew I had to get my cake from them! It was a wonderful experience from start to finish. They offer cake tasting boxes that include their most popular flavors. However, we had a specific taste profile in mind and asked if they could custom make the samples for us - they said yes without hesitation and didn't charge us extra! The samples were delicious and the pickup process was easy. We went with a ribbon cake (chocolate and vanilla) with fresh strawberries, whipped cream filling, and vanilla buttercream frosting. I also had a very specific vision for my wedding cake - I wanted a detailed three-tier cake with buttercream vintage flowers. We also ordered a plain sheet cake with the same flavors to ensure that we had enough slices for our guests. I worked with Fariba during the ordering process and they were great. I don't know if this is typical for this bakery, but the cake was heavy, claggy on the bottom, and way too sweet. The lemon mousse tasted incredibly strange, as if it were artificial or maybe had some kind of herb or weird flavoring added. The less said about the cream, the better. The white chocolate was quite good though. I saw they had a wide variety of cake offerings, but I don't think I'd want cake from here again. I might get the choux pastry again.

It's a small bakery with lots of trays of individually packaged cakes and pastries. The smell was very pleasant and comforting. Using a flat basket (or tray) I grabbed a few selections. I picked 2 "Heart Pies" that resembled my favorite French Butterfly Cookies. Also 2 pound cakes. The total rang up to just over $21. There's some small tables for enjoying your purchases there, but I took my items to go. The icy cold fruit smoothie was very good and very cold! Not too sweet, it had a natural strawberry taste. The Heart Pies were good and fresh. But the Pound Cakes were probably "day old." I noticed there's no dates or "best by" tags on the packages. It's a nice place to visit, and I will return again. If you like surprises, are omnivore & no special diets or food allergies, Too Good To Go is the way to explore. The items were in generic packaging without labels, so take a pic of the items you like so can order when visit next time. While my family enjoyed all the items, I really enjoyed the black sesame studded puffy rolls that I think were made with rice flour. There was a large group of older Asian ladies, including one who brought their lap dog, enjoying good conversations in their native language with their baked goods and tea or coffee. Another gentleman was taking a video call to help decide the best cake to buy. Will add this bake shop for a place to have a coffee meeting and to favorite in Too Good To Go.

I think we went on a day where they might've been short a few people, but we did wait over an hour for our order. From my observations there is a process for the tacos. They have to mold the ice cream in, then keep it in the freezer for a few minutes for it to hold its shape, and customize it after. Simple dining area. Food took about 15 minutes.

My finacee and I have been doing a lot of cake shopping and have been to a lot of the south bay wedding cake shops and none even came close the the wonderful service and delicious cake we had here. The lady that helped us really helped us work through our ideas and designs, We had seen Cero and his cakes featured on TV, and he also sat down and helped with some design suggestions. We choose 3 different flavors for the three layers of our cake. The burnt almond, chocolate raspberry, and red velvet were all moist and full flavor. And they are going to trade a free 1st anniversary cake for a photo of our wedding cake. We went here for a wedding cake tasting.. prior to going, I asked about cake prices.. apparently, I didn't ask enough questions because there were so many extra fees, e.g., $150 for our simple design of hat boxes, $150 to cover the cake with white chocolate fondant, and $90 set up and delivery charge (to San Francisco).. anyhow, all in all, our specialty cake request would have been over $1200 for our 150 person, 3-tier cake. Visited Cake Expression recently and had an okay experience. The cakes were nicely presented and the selection was good, but the flavor didn't quite stand out as much as I expected. It was decent overall, just not particularly memorable. The service was fine and the shop was clean and welcoming. Not a bad place for dessert, but there are a few things that could be improved to make the experience more enjoyable. Would consider giving it another try in the future. read more

They had a lot of choices too - we sampled about 8 slices of cake. When we went in to pick up the cake it was beautiful. The design far exceeded our expectations. I asked for my deposit back - and after several emails, calls and voicemail, a week later I was told that it is not refundable. I was never told that it was not refundable, there is no contract made. Fernanda thinks that it says so at the bottom of her emails but nope, all it says is 'Please note that orders are not booked on our calendars until a deposit is paid and we confirm the receipt of that deposit. Quotes for your order do not constitute a contract for services.' NO mention that deposit is not refundable. She should have directed me to the disclaimer that she has on her website that mentions it but how else would I have seen that unless I am told to go into the website? Since I expressed my frustrations, she has told me that she will refund my deposit but has still failed to do so almost a week later. Even sent out a reminder PayPal refund email but no luck. Refunding the deposit takes less than 5 minutes - please don't give me an excuse to say that you were too busy. I think it is unfair to hold money from a customer without fully explaining the terms and conditions and if you've said that you will refund it then you should do it ASAP not drag it on...
