I booked my graduation event at cagle steaks graduation buffet. I bought tickets for $17 each expecting a buffet for 9 ppl. When we got our food we were told that it wasn't a buffet, but that it was buffet style. I checked the website and it stated that it was buffet. For the portions that we received Im greatly dissapointed i paid 17 a person for what we received. The ribeye was ok but the potato salad and coleslaw was terrible. I love this place even though it is pretty pricey. But it is probably my favorite steak place in Lubbock. The steaks have always been cooked perfect for me every time I have gone. The one down fall to this place is how close some of the seats are. You can hardly move without hitting the person sitting behind you. Otherwise, I would definitely recommend this place. My son decided he wanted to have his graduation dinner at Cagle's; being from out of town we had really no idea what to expect. We arrived around 8:00, and the humongous parking lot was packed. We asked one of the cashiers about how long the wait would.be, and she guessed an hour. Rather than turn around and go back to town we decided to wait it out, since everything in Lubbock was busy for Tech graduation weekend. It was a smart move. From the time we were seated we were well taken care of by our waitress. How she managed to get our eight-person order straight, manage other tables and keep her sanity was beyond me. I ordered a medium ribeye, and I can emphatically state it was the single best steak I've ever eaten. The bread was hot and fresh, and the accompanying sides excellent. The ribeye was so tender it was really a waste of silverware by providing a steak knife, as I could cut it with just a fork. The atmosphere was loud but not annoyingly so. The prices were somewhat higher than I had anticipated, but given the quality of the service and food I certainly didn't feel ripped off. My only regret is I didn't discover this place until my son's graduation from Tech. I don't know when or if I'll ever make it back to Lubbock, but rest assured if I do this will be where I have my first dinner. read more

They don't take reservations, but the store and outdoor area make the wait painless (in the rare event there is one). However, the steak is the reason to go there. They are always juicy, tender, and cooked precisely to order. They only serve ribeyes, so if you are one of the people who don't like a fatty steak with a little bit of grisle, look elsewhere. The steaks come with salad, buffet fixins with cornbread, and bread. For less than $50 dollars for two, its also reasonable for a date dinner. We received our overpriced steaks and they were cold. They were cooked to our order, but they must've been sitting out for awhile before we received them. I just had a horrible experience at Cagle's Steakhouse in Shallowater, Texas. We arrived just after 6pm. The restaurant was just under 1/3 capacity. After ordering at 6:10 pm, the waitress gave us "your food will arrive soon" every 10 minutes At 7pm, she told us some larger parties had caused the food to be late. We arrived much earlier than they had. She then told us a few minutes later that they had priority. She left to locate the manager who we never saw. I usually look forward to going to Cagle's when we visit Lubbock. Our last two visits (July 2016 and just yesterday, January 6) left us somewhat disappointed. Both times our steaks were barely warm and the broccoli was cold. The bread was hard as was the corn bread. Last night the plates the steaks were served on were absolutely frigid. Probably why our steaks were barely warm. The salads were not fresh either. Service was very good though. For the price we paid I wouldn't think we would have these issues. My folks were visiting last year and we took them here - they loved it, even though it was pricey and a bit cheesy. They came back recently and we went again. Unfortunately, we were all disappointed. I was in Lubbock for a pump class, and the pump people took the whole lot of us to Cagle's for dinner. They had a room in the back reserved for us, with walls painted to make us feel like we were being attacked by Native Americans in the Old West while we ate. Pretty nice painting. Anyway, they kept the beer flowing and did a good job getting orders from about forty people. The ribeye steak was good, and the fries were really good. All the rest of the trimmings were pretty good too. There's a "salad bar" type deal where you can load up on corn bread and what not. No complaints about the food. The wait staff did a wonderful job. I think the prices were a little high, but not completely out of line. And they have a pretty neat setup there. When you pull in it's like driving into an 1800's one horse town. They have a gift shop with some nice souvenirs. Some locals rave about the steak. It's worth a try, at least once. read more

I took family that came from Ohio to Cagle's this evening. I was so disappointed. The wait staff had good service until we made a comment about the food. There was no apology, let me tell the manager, no trying to correct it, nothing. The food, well that was the most disappointing part of our experience. I love this place. It's a must stop anytime in Lubbock. It's a true family,West Texas business that takes great pride in the food and service they provide. I always get a ribeye John Cagle and his wife are good people. I live in Denver and he always remembers me when I eat at Cagles. He always tells me that he appreciates me coming all the way from Denver to eat. During football weekends the wait can be a bit longer. Not too worry though they usually have a band playing at the building across from the restaurant with cold beer and a friendly staff. My mother and I were in Lubbock to visit my daughter who is at Tech. I googled best places to eat on the internet and Cagle's appeared. Being from rural Oklahoma, the western themed buildings weren't that impressive. Once inside we were seated quickly and our waiter answered our many questions politely. We all ordered the Ribeye Steak salad and the sampler appetizer. We were brought warm bread with butter that was very good. The appetizer was the usual fried snacks. Our salads were large and topped with a whole ribeye steak cut into slices. The salad was mostly lettuce, but the ribeye was great. It was tender, juicy, and was seasoned perfectly. We were even inspired to be "tourists". We went over to the General Store and purchased some of the Good Character Steak Seasoning to take home. My husband grills excellent steaks and I won't have a problem taking him there on our next trip to Lubbock. read more

I attended a family reunion that was held there. Usually we had barbecue which was never very good, so the family in charge this year had steaks. I had heard a lot about the steaks so I was excited. However, bar none, it was the worst steak I ever tried to eat in my life. I broke 2 plastic knives trying to cut it. It was so tough that you couldn't chew it. My wife got the chicken because she is not a big steak eater (except the filet mignon's I cook for her at home), took one bite and threw it in the trash. The sides were green beans and a roll. I would hate to think what a baked potato would be like, but that is a different story. Anyway, we were very dissappointed and will never eat their again. Also, without asking I went to the small bar and asked for a Coors Light. It was warm and they said they were all the same. They had already opened it and then told me it was $5!! It was dry and tasteless cold fries not even steak fries.You would think you get steak fries at a steak house that charges $12 for burger with no pickles and no tomatoes. The worst was the service server never gave us his name nor did he ever ask is everything ok. Great server will say hello and his or her name and tell you I am here to make you dinner a good one. Well our server got us our food 55 minutes after we ordered mind you just 2 burgers we waited 55 minutes for and was charged $1 for cold chilis. All together my bill was $30 dollars for 2 dry burgers and 2 cold fries with 1 water and 1 tea what a joke. Nobody said by or comeback to see us.
