First- I know there are several bad reviews, but if you look at the menubeforehand, and look at the prices, you should go into this, knowing that it's not a "fine dining" type of experience. This is more of a family-oriented, Texas style, restaurant experience. The GOOD- waitstaff was amazing, the complimentary bread was tasty, side salad was fresh, and for the quality of food, the price was fair. We started with the assorted appetizer-- lots of fried foods, all from a bag (it seemed). The price wasn't terrible, so didn't expect anything extravagant. I had the salmon- good flavor, but definitely overcooked. I'm sure cooking over a hot mesquite grill is tough to manage proper cooking with fish. Husband had the ribeye and said the flavor was amazing... And his steak was actually cooked pretty well! We also both had a Chilton to drink... This was a definite letdown because it was made with either tapwater or flat club soda... But again they were only $8 each, so we did not expect anything amazing. Overall- the atmosphere is super neat, and it's definitely laid-back...Go into it expecting a notch above Texas Roadhouse, but nothing like Double Nickel/Las Brisas, and you'll be pleasantly surprised. read more

It literally took the kitchen 3 tries to cook my steak (biggest and most expensive on menu) to medium rare as ordered. Both retries were served completely rare with a little crisp on outside. The waiter even said no way let me get that fixed for you. Date was done with her meal far long before I was able to even eat my steak. Her mashed potatoes were horrible as well. I actually made the suggestion for the cook to use a thermometer to make sure. Asked if the waiter would consider a discount on my meal and he asked the manager. He came back with I can't give you a discount but dessert is on us. ridiculous! The manager didn't even come to apologize until I asked to see if he would reconsider his stance. The managers response was, "well, you ate it didn't you?". The steak was actually medium cooked at this point and almost 1/2 the size of the original served. Never ever coming back to this stupid place. Which is pretty sad because I first came here in '96 and came back while I lived in 806 as a young man many times. Oh! Almost forgot you can't even order an old fashioned at the dinner table. Ridiculous! It doesn't take much to realize that if the manager has an attitude like that towards guests, the place is not in a good spot and improperly managed. We have been a few times in the last two years and keep giving them another chance but they need to revamp their menu to include some healthier options for those of us who know the seriousness of seed oils and who eat more veggies. Our food took 45 minutes to come because we were told my salmon had been frozen, and when it came it had clearly been cooked in the microwave because it was so dry and my husbands chicken fried rib eye had also been microwaved to reheat it. And charging $8 for a side salad that is only lettuce, two tomatoes and carrots and one or two slices of cucumber is a shame. Everything was great until I found plastic in my Mac and Cheese - after I nicely said something alerting them to the issue, someone at my table asked if there was anything they could do to make it right, and they denied the request and refused to offer anything to make up for the issue. The steak was the best steak ever in my entire life. I ordered the steak medium-rare and it was pefectly juicy. And the breads were well baked too. The waiter was so polite and tried to get our orders as fast as he could. Ambiance was pretty good. A short drive from Lubbock, this place is a treasure! Their steaks have so much flavor you want to lick the plate. (I resist, though. Ha!) Since this first review I have been back to Cagle's several times and only get a ribeye. Every steak has been awesome and cooked perfectly. The beans are also awesome and a great start to the meal. However the break and cornbread are still always dry and cold. I just don't eat them so it's no bid deal. Staff are always great, friendly and helpful. Solid choice for a steak night out! I feel like Cagles tends to get forgotten these days-please consider them when you are pondering where to go. Hardly ever a wait (which is rare in Lubbock), friendly service, fair prices and pretty solid quality. My husband always gets a ribeye with a baked potato and salad and I always get the ribeye fajitas with fries we always leave happy and full and with warm cobbler to go. Cagle's is probably my favorite steakhouse in The Lubbock area. We make it a point to go there whenever we are in town and we've never been let down! Cagle's is not your traditional steakhouse. Rather, it's an experience of its own kind. It's definitely off the beaten path, but they have an entire "campus' of different buildings which makes for a really unique experience. You feel like you are stepping back in time about 30-40 years. The service has always been 5stars and their food is delicious. The portions are typically very generous. My father in lawn once ordered the country-fried steak and that probably could have fed 4 people! I'd like to keep this place to myself because it's so awesome, but it seems the secret is already out. Be sure to make a reservation, especially if you're headed there on a weekend. read more

Service is good. But the ribeye I fit was very thin, I would have use that thin of one for chicken fried steak. I paid MORE $29.00 for a SMALLER thinner ribeye at Cagles a 10 oz than I did for a BIGGER THICKER cut at Texas Roadhouse with their 12 oz ribeye.$21.99. Also a lot of Cagles was fat inedible. That's ridiculous. Cagles also lacks seasoning and was TOUGH to cut through. This placed USED tone good but has gone downhill lately. I'll stick to Texas Roadhouse. read more

This place is very Texan. Extra large property and lots of space to park and lo g walk to the restsurant. We were greeted by the wife of the restaurant owner. Very nice lady. The had our table ready because we were 12 people. Tbe waiter greeted us and got our drink and appetizer orders. Apetizers were spunach diil, mozzarela sticks and poppers. Next order was our meal. I order3/4 inch rib eye steak eith salad. The stesk was very well vooked as i ordered and the salad just a regular salad no big deal. Steak was excellent.
