Finally made the trip to find Cagle's and so very glad we did! Got lost. Turn left at the RR crossing, thank you GPS. The first thing you'll see is the charming little Old Town ranch set up. Very cute. Made hubster take a pic on the merry-go-round. Enter the door & head left - there's a sign on the wall. Open the doors & be greeted quite warmly by both the hostess & the wonderful mesquite smell! Awesome! We got seated & met our server, Zach. Zach rocks! I can see we went on a night that wasn't as busy as it probably gets, so he had time to actually take care of us & he did a fantastic job! I don't say THAT often as a former, and jaded, veteran of the restaurant industry. We started with the little bit of everything sampler. $15 gets a good amount of nibbles...cheese sticks, fried pickles, jalapeno poppers & shrooms. Also included are the bacon wrapped jalapenos. The fried stuff is your average get-it-anywhere fare, but those bacon wrapped guys are worth it if you can stand a little heat! Don't ask for marinara for the cheese - they have ranch & some cuminy/smokey other ranch. Kinda scored asking for BBQ sauce - it was good on the bacon wrapped jalapenos. Jalapenos made drink refills necessary, and Zach had that covered without being asked or flagged down - the whole meal! The menu is simple. Obviously, get a ribeye. Pick two sides - one can be a salad - and that salad can be caesar. Sweet! Hubster goes for rare & I like medium. Out comes the bread. On a wooden board with butter, it has two choices: White & Cornbread. Both were what they were & good with our salads. Steaks arrived. COOKED PERFECTLY! What?! And what is this odd sensation of flavor and seasoning? Are we really anywhere near Lubbock right now? OMGoodness good! Nice cuts beautifully done! Accompanying side for me was their potato salad. It was alright. Hubster kept it basic with a baked potato. Well, we didn't come here for the sides anyways. Ordered a peach cobbler to-go & had it for breakfast this morning. Delish! Total bill for 2 - $82. No alcohol ordered. Pricey, but the good stuff often makes it worth it. Now that we know where it is, we'll be back soon! The best part about this place was the ranch house theme and the cornbread and beans bar... We use to love comming here and would always bring out of town guests, but sadly the quality of the food have been in a steady decline for the past few years. The ribeyes used to be great, always get the thickest cut avaliable and they use a simple pepper seasoning on it. But the past few times there were more and more gristle and fat than meat....the BBQ is overrated, not even close to bigham's. The peach pie w/blue bell was still the same as before. To be fair, this is not an upscale place to begin with...not a smith n wollensky or del friscos, its more of a family mid price place like texas roadhouse Surely do miss the good old days before they got too popular. Great atmosphere, attentive waitress, and excellent food! Western themed grounds and buildings at an extremely affordable price for it all. Four friends all satisfied at $92 total bill. Had the BarBQ Ham, Turkey, Chicken, and Brisket with a baked potato and salad. Friends had Fajitas and steak and said they were very good as well. We ate here last night after a long day at the hospital with a family member and was so pleasantly surprised!! We found this place here on yelp and thought we were driving to just another steakhouse and when we finally saw the turn off for Cagle Steaks we were shocked to find out that it's also an old western town backdrop, live music, a general store, all on a huge beautiful ranch! We had to wait for a table but didn't mind as we sat in the courtyard was great live music. When we were in the dining room we ordered the appetizer sampler, and the 10oz ribeye steak. Oh my were they tender and the perfect medium!! The steak came with 2 sides and you get free (to die for) beans and choice of corn bread (which we chose) or white bread. We ended up buying the steak seasoning in the general store and a postcard for my collection. We will definitely go back and take our friends! read more

Came to Lubbock to see some family and we decided to go here for a steak dinner. My sister was squealing with excitement when we pulled in because she loves to document EVERYTHING and Cagle's is on a beautiful piece of property with some sweet West Texas charm. The staff was extremely friendly and the steaks were delicious. My dad wished there was a larger wine selection but they do have shiner bock on tap! Went to Cagle's with my wife and daughter recently and had another great experience. You can tell you're in a good place when the owner seats you and is obviously involved in the business. She is always friendly. Her husband seems to be doing some of the cooking, but also comes around some as well. Steak was great and I really like their beans. I'm not sure what other people are looking for in their steak, but theirs is what I measure everyone else against. read more

Heard a lot about this place. Great western ambiance but food was just so-so. Our son's ribeye was so peppered he had 2 large waters. And his baked potato was cold. "Baked potato on campus is awesome. This one is room temperature and kinda hard". My chicken fried ribeye was terrible. Over fried and crunchy. The sliver of steak was dry inside. Valentines dinner is busy when you don't make reservations ahead of time. That said we were prepared to wait our turn because the steak is good at this place. We arrived at 7:00 and waited 15 minutes in line just to put our name on the wait list. We were told the wait was an hour and a half and that was ok with us. We walked across the restaurant to wait in the area where music is played. Lots of tables with empty beer bottles that needed to be bussed. The daughter of the owner was the only one in there and she was bar tending. The band was playing some very eclectic music from many genres. I noticed people who were in line behind us were leaving but I didn't think anything about it until I had to go to the bathroom then I saw those people eating. On my way back I stopped to ask how much longer our wait was and then this is where everything went south. The owners wife flipped through 3 pages of the steno pad to find our name. There were a lot of names with beeper numbers beside the name crossed out and our name was the only one not crossed out that was left. Without hesitation, she looked at me and said everyone else had reservations so she had to work them in first. I pretty much surmised she was not being truthful and told me it would be about 15 minutes. No sooner did I get back to the music place when my beeper started buzzing. As we walked into the restaurant it was pretty much empty at 9:00 pm. We were sat at a table for 8 despite there being a lot of empty booths. It's upsetting to say the least. We went for our first time and could not be more disappointed! I ordered the brisket plate and after waiting a hour and 15 minutes it finally arrived (we showed up at 5:45 on a Saturday evening). It was literally NOTHING but fat! I tried to take a couple of bites and it was like chewing lard. The hush puppies on my fathers plate were brown on the outside and raw dough in the middle. I usually just bite the bullet but considering it was 18$ , i decided to say something. The waiter got his manager and she introduces herself as the owner. I explained the problem and she hatefully stated 'that is all meat from the outside of the brisket' and stormed off. Next thing you know, we had our check. Will NEVER return! My steak was perfect (even though I'm leery of going with the thin steak, my Jake was cooked PERFECTLY). All of the food for our table of 6 was above par. Was heading to the Panhandle for a funeral, decided to stay the night in Lubbock and went to Cagle Steakhouse for dinner. Seated promptly, the wait staff was professional and attentive. Ordered my ribeye steak, RARE with the baked potato and a side salad. The steak was wonderful, tender and flavorful, also partook of the pinto beans. After I paid the check and headed out the door, an unassuming man walked up and asked me how was the food. I told him the honest truth, the food was outstanding and the staff excellent. After a few minutes of talking, he introduced himself - John Cagle, owner. This was an AWESOME experience and I will be back any time I am in Lubbock. read more

Not the place to go for large parties. We had a large group and made reservations so they would be prepared. Sadly they were not. The menu stated with the 3 meat you get 2 sides so people ordered that way. None one mentioned that one of the sides were beans that were in another room so people were charged for an additional side. And the worse part was the waiter when asked about the charge on the ticket said " Oh yes that is a typo on the menu'" I had the salmon which was terribly dry and my mashed potato was the baked potato cut up with a fork. Big miss for the whole group and the when the owner asked about our meal was not very kind when we gave our feedback. read more

My family and I were deeply disapointed with this steak house. Everyone my sister talk to recommended it because the steaks are great, which is true, but it's a little too kitschy in the cowboy vein. It's feels like eating at a theme park's mess-hall. The bar and restaurant, facing side by side, are nothing more than warehouses crudely decorated with Texan bric-a-brac, Christmas lights and beer signs. Margaritta's are served in Styrophome cups and sides are served in small styrophome bowls. I could deal with this but as soon as my sister's boyfriend requested bread-plates for our appetizers, the waitress said, "Um, we usually don't give out bread plates but I'll see what I can find." Since I don't eat steak I ate the "buffet fixins" - a major letdown. The beans and cole-slaw were bland and somewhat generic, although the potato salad was okay. We used to love going to Cagle's for their nicely cut and cooked steaks, but the last visit was a big disappointment. The steaks were smaller and the prices were higher! The steaks were fatty and the pinto beans had absolutely zero spices. Not even salt. It is hard to find a place in Texas who forgot to use salt. Last but not least, the prices of their margaritas went up to $12 for a regular size glass. This has got to be the most expensive margarita in town. That's right, as good as it gets. This place 'is' steaks' served in a cowboy setting. The specialty cuts are all ribeye served by size 3/4 inch 1 inch ++, etc. I laughed pretty hard at the two 1 star reviews. One said it was expensive (pretty much all you can eat for $21!). The other didn't like the barn decor, lol. When you drive onto the Cagles Ranch and see a 1800's general store you really should know what to expect. The taste/texture of this steak was as good as I've had at Sparks or Peter Lugers so put that in your pipe and smoke it. Ps. I can't believe the bill was only $25 all said and done (each). read more

I read the previous post and chuckled a bit as she never even tried the steak! You'd think they'd try the steak before reviewing a STEAKHOUSE, right? I will agree that the decor of the place needs work- if you want fine linens, crystal glasses, and quiet atmosphere - you definitely should go elsewhere. But the steaks and BBQ are easily in the top tier of Lubbock. Its almost as good as Las Brisas and Double Nickel(IMO The best steakhouse in Lubbock) but at more reasonable prices. For bang for the buck, this place rocks. Texas Roadhouse is pretty good too. But if you want to take a date to a "nice" steakhouse, try Double Nickel or Las Brisas. read more

Pros: the restaurant has a great atmosphere on a good size of land. They have a barn outside that has a bar and live music so you have entertainment while you wait. Cons: We called earlier in the day and made a reservation for dinner. We were told they wouldn't take reservations during the busy part of the evening but we could have a reservation for 8PM. We had 7 people in our group. When we got to the restaurant they didn't have our table ready, which was okay considering they had the barn and we weren't in a huge rush. We sat in the barn for about 30 minutes until our table was ready. After being seated and getting our drinks it took the waitress 10 minutes to come back to the table to order. Once our order was put in it took another hour to get our food. Our orders were all BBQ and catfish so I know it was all already made and just needing to be put on a plate. There was another large table that was seated after us that received their food and finished eating before our food was delivered. Overall, the service was terrible. The food was average. Nothing stood out. The catfish was tiny little pieces (probably because it was the last bit of crumbs they had left in the kitchen). read more

Cagle's is kitchy, but hey- it's Texas! The place is family run and beloved by many in Lubbock for good reason. You'll want to order the STEAK- don't bother going if you are on a budget or on a diet. Initially nervous about ordering the 9 oz ribeye and having it cooked properly (my husband and I usually split a thick steak), I was delighted when it was indeed cooked medium rare. Their seasoning is fantastic, service very good, and the accompaniments pretty standard. Just a few wines by the bottle but they are very reasonably priced. We have been eating here for years and enjoy it most of the time. Tonight was much different. We had a 8oz filet. This was the worst filet I have ever eaten. It was pieces of meat put together, wrapped in bacon and held together with a tooth pick. To add insult to injury it was over cooked. The cost of one steak with only one side item is $30.00. I was not happy with the party room we had requested! I am aware the the party room could fit 25 people we had 1 extra person. But, when sitting the party we could only seat 22. When we talked to the manager, she pulled up 2 small picnic tables that we could use that she recommended we not eat off of? Why suggest these tables then? We ordered salmon with rice pilaf and the salmon tasted old and the rice was cold! We also ordered a salad with oil and vinegar dressing and we received plan distilled vinegar for our dressing!! I'm from TN, so when in TX you have to get BBQ or steak. I decided to get some brisket and ribs. Sort of wish I had gone with the steak. The brisket was dry and the ribs were not as good as hoped. The French fries and pinto beans were fantastic. And I can't say enough about how well the service was. But just disappointed in the BBQ. I'll give the place another try if I am back in the area and stick with what they apparently specialize in....steaks. read more
