First- I know there are several bad reviews, but if you look at the menubeforehand, and look at the prices, you should go into this, knowing that it's not a "fine dining" type of experience. This is more of a family-oriented, Texas style, restaurant experience. The GOOD- waitstaff was amazing, the complimentary bread was tasty, side salad was fresh, and for the quality of food, the price was fair. We started with the assorted appetizer-- lots of fried foods, all from a bag (it seemed). The price wasn't terrible, so didn't expect anything extravagant. I had the salmon- good flavor, but definitely overcooked. I'm sure cooking over a hot mesquite grill is tough to manage proper cooking with fish. Husband had the ribeye and said the flavor was amazing... And his steak was actually cooked pretty well! We also both had a Chilton to drink... This was a definite letdown because it was made with either tapwater or flat club soda... But again they were only $8 each, so we did not expect anything amazing. Overall- the atmosphere is super neat, and it's definitely laid-back...Go into it expecting a notch above Texas Roadhouse, but nothing like Double Nickel/Las Brisas, and you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Lubbock, Texas steaks at its finest. Ribeye steak is a can't miss. Excellent service on drinks. Nice family dining atmosphere and worth the drive outside of Lubbock. Thanks

The steak was the best steak ever in my entire life. I ordered the steak medium-rare and it was pefectly juicy. And the breads were well baked too. The waiter was so polite and tried to get our orders as fast as he could. Ambiance was pretty good. There was so many people and I had to wait 40minutes but the old guys band made the waiting time enrich.

My fiancé and I absolutely love this place. So much so that we just got engaged there this past weekend. The food is always so flavorful and steaks so tender. Lovely local place that we will forever go to on a night out. The service is always amazing and they bring the food out to quick. The free bread and corn bread is to die for as well as the appetizers. This is our #1 place to get a steak with the amount of flavor it has.

Or "I'm sorry, your server should be with you shortly" or nothing! Not ONE acknowledgement. I finally picked up my cell phone and called the main number and asked for the manager. When he came to the phone I advised him we had been there a while with no one offering to get us drinks. He finally stopped by the table and made some excuse for the server, which is fine, but why didn't he stop and say that prior to my calling. He passed us at least three times, glancing at our table and still...nothing. That's all I want. Acknowledge that we are there and will be served soon! Very frustrating. Our server, Preston, was nice and accommodating and I tipped him accordingly. The food, as always was good. Hoping this doesn't happen to us next time.

As for food... we have been coming here for YEARS, and the consistency in dishes/drinks is not there. It makes me extremely sad, especially when we pay well over $200 each visit. For example- I always get the Chilean Sea Bass- many times it's lightly seared, leaving the fish delicate in tenderness and flavor. Tonight it was like Furr's Cafeteria . It was heavy with oil and the outside was extremely crispy, like a deep fried filet- so discouraging. As for dessert, I was offered a "complimentary" one for my birthday, but was still charged $12.00 for it. I didn't say anything... but really??? I had this same dessert last week, and this week the pretzel crusted bottom was far too buttery and over-powering-- so not only did the "complimentary" birthday dessert cost, it also was not finished. Finally, the evening started with drinks- my choice, an espresso martini. At the bar, the lady asked if I wanted "creamy and sweet" and I said "neither"-- what she gave me was AMAZING! She said if I reordered at the table later to say the same to our waiter, with my name. I did, and ... yikes- not even close to the same flavor. Overall, we love coming here for the atmosphere and waitstaff, but the consistency in quality of food keeps regressing. It truly makes me sad.

While sitting in the Walmart parking lot researching places near where I'm staying for work in Lubbock, I came across The Funky Door Bistro Wine Room. I'm so glad I did. When I pulled up, I appreciated the ample parking and immediately noticed the unique wine‑glass door handles--such a fun touch. Inside, the décor is warm and inviting with wood accents, dim lighting, and a beautiful display of wines. The upstairs seating overlooking the main floor adds to the charm. The service was excellent from start to finish. I ordered a grapefruit mimosa and an egg‑white omelet with avocado, feta, spinach, and breakfast potatoes with caramelized onions and peppers. I was charged extra for egg whites, but it was absolutely worth it. Everything was flavorful and cooked perfectly. From the hostess to the server, the service and timing were spot‑on. I will give major props to the server, Mollie, and her manager for doing a phenomenal job resolving a minor issue with the order quickly, politely, and effectively. The atmosphere was fair with good music and humorous decor in the bathroom. The lights weren't for me, but others may like the statement. Where The Reserve was lacking was the food. The pepperoni pizza was pretty good, but again there are better options around town. It did taste like it had been prepared in a genuine brick oven. The tortellini was bland. The queso was good enough, but nothing to get excited about. The salsa was downright terrible. The chips were actually phenomenal. The margarita made no attempt to cover up the strong taste of tequila. The Chilton tasted like club soda and not much else. Lastly, some of the surprise fees made me feel like I was booking air travel or paying a wireless bill rather than getting a nice meal. The final charge was a few dollars more than what was shown on the ticket. I assumed this was probably due to a service charge for paying with a card, although I didn't see it with a quick glance at the receipt. In all fairness, I'm sure this was disclosed somewhere and I overlooked it. I have come to accept this as the way of the world now. Also, when we ordered the chips and queso, we were asked if we wanted salsa with it. We accepted the salsa with the assumption that it was complimentary. Granted, since we were asked, I should have assumed that there was a charge for it. The charge was reasonable, although wasted because the salsa was so terrible. I did receive approximately a 5% discount for the order mix-up, and I actually ended up with a free pizza as well. The service and attentiveness were truly exemplary. I would give this place a second chance if I were in the area, but I certainly will not go out of my way for it.
