Two foodies from Houston. We are visiting family in Lubbock and we're looking for a breakfast place. When you walk in you are welcomed with warm smells of pie. All types of pie. Yes, we ordered two slices to go. Will come back to let you know. You seat yourself at least at breakfast. The place was full of hungry customers, but we found a seat. Our wait staff was professional, friendly, and personable. While our food was fresh and hot, it was not my favorite breakfast. However, if you grew up eating cafe food, this is a great place. Consistently good food and service. Order is always right, never takes too long even if they are busy and staff is always friendly. It does get a little loud at lunch, but nothing crazy like Dirks (IYKYK). Chicken friend steak is good, probably #2 in Lubbock. read more

Dropped off our truck and picked up rental car. This place was recommended and just down the street. Great service by really nice ladies. Lots of funny signs on the walls. OK, this is COMFORT FOOD heaven. No lo-cal, vegan, gluten-free stuff here. It's what you used to get in diners and cafes across America. Incredible homemade and fresh breakfast as usual. Made it on a Monday around 9:30 am and we weren't too late to have the fresh biscuits and gravy this time! Fried okra was the best I've ever had. Hand breaded and delicious! Onion rings were amazing too!! Thanks for the homemade ranch! This place is great. Service is good, food is wonderful. It's a little loud, but it's worth it. The only problem is their hours. I don't think they're open on weekends. Otherwise I'd probably weigh about 30 more pounds than I do. I love this place. You will, too. A Lubbock staple. read more

The sight and smell of fresh baked goods are magnificent to behold especially first thing in the morning. I arrived just as cups of banana pudding were being filled, pecan pie being dished out sending cinnamon and vanilla scents wafting through the air. The week of Thanksgiving is probably not the best to review but I was there today so here it is. There were hundreds of pies near the entrance because everybody wants one, and they're great. I just wanted lunch. A little disappointed because they were out of onion rings and the fries were old and hard. The burger though, magnificent. Our service here was good, and we were seated pretty quickly. The food was okay, they serve decent portions. They ran out of dessert while we were there, so that was a disappointment. It was really over crowded, and hard to hear each other in the facility because of how loud it was. I'm glad we tried it out, I don't think we'd be back though. read more

For a Monday afternoon the place was packed. I was able to get a seat at the bar and was served right away. The staff were all very nice. So- came for breakfast -as our usual place (The Pancake House)-was closed. Well, this was great! I had egg whites, and a short stack, while my husband had the breakfast sandwich. The pancakes were FAR better than our usual. They were moist and soft, and my husband said his sandwich was amazing. Milli was our server, and she was super sweet and attentive. Cast iron grill is home style perfected. The food is incredible, you would have trouble ordering something off of this menu you didn't find delicious. Always have the best desserts up front on display. The wait staff always have such a welcoming and comforting demeanor. It feels more like when you were a kid and you would go over and eat at your best friends house who had the mom who could really cook and was always happy to see you, that kind of welcoming feel if that makes sense. read more

This place is delicious! Waitresses are extremely friendly, food is great. I travel a ton for work, so finding that "home cooked meal" is always a treat. I think I've been here 5 times in 3 weeks. What a wonderful surprise! Came here for lunch during a work trip and will be back next time I'm in Lubbock. Great food at a great price. The place was very busy for lunch but we got our food super fast. Great Texas decor inside as well. I got the grilled chicken with mashed potatoes and broccoli cheese rice. If this is Lubbock's premier breakfast place--we are all in a (canola oil drenched) heap of trouble. I couldn't get the cooks / wait staff to use anything but unhealthful canola oil on the eggs. They were drenched in it. Boring Wonder bread. Despite asking for no mushrooms, the omelette was chocked full of them. I left 80% of the food behind and will go to a bagel place to patch things up. Low grade orange juice. No thanks. Wow. Sooo disappointing. I wish I could say that I was warned. read more

History

Established in 2007.

The CIG was started from a simple prayer in 2006. "Lord use me to make a difference in 1 person's life." I was a stay-at home mom that loved her job. The Cast Iron Grill sort of fell into my lap exactly 1 year to the date of me praying this prayer. I was armed with my brother-n-law, he was my experience and my knowledge. We started in a little place on 18th & K. For 5 years we were an ever changing restaurant. I became sole proprietor in 2009 and by 2011 we had gone from 55 seats to 167 seats. We have been blessed! In 2012 the Lord starting showing me it was time to change locations, I was of course being drug with this new change kicking and screaming. We opened up the doors to our new location January 2, 2013 and wow what a ride it has been. The last 5 1/2 years has been an incredible journey. The CIG is full of amazing food, an amazing staff and the most amazing guest that we truly do life with everyday. It is a place of love, ministry and celebration. BLESSED is all I can say!!

Visiting the rest room was an interesting experience. You have to go behind the counter and into the kitchen where the food is being prepared. I didn't mind because that's what everyone else was doing. I liked walking past the tables and seeing all the dishes other people got. The food looked really good, especially the blueberry pancakes. My granddaughter got French toast, one egg and sausage. The rest of us got breakfast burritos. I got a side of ham for my dog, Baxter. Our burritos were delicious and huge. Baxter liked his large serving of ham and was disappointed when he finished. I had a bite of ham and I can affirm it was delicious. My only complaint about the menu is that they don't offer a choice of bread with the breakfasts. The traditional egg and meat and omelette breakfasts all come with toast. You can get pancakes or biscuits but that's in a different section. You can always order something from the biscuit or pancake section and add a side of eggs and or meat. This is a unique restaurant and well worth checking out.
