Visited Rain Cafe awhile back while in Lubbock. I absolutely enjoyed my breakfast here and would absolutely recommend it. Logistically there is both amble parking and space inside for groups of all sizes. Very simple inside and sometimes that's all you need. The service was spot on, even if a bit on the slower side for how busy they were. We weren't in a rush, so not a big deal. They were accurate, attentive, and very friendly. The chicken fried steak was delicious, and cooked perfectly. Their gravy was very nice as well. Eggs cooked correctly and had browns crispy. All I could ask for there! The french toast was good but not great. I'm not sure what it was that they coated it in but it had a bit of an odd crispy texture that was almost like it was pik-nik sticks (for lack of a better comparison), and while it wasn't bad, tilt wasn't my favorite. Absolutely ridiculous experience. We've been sitting here for over an hour waiting on pancakes. An entire hour for pancakes is completely unacceptable. On top of that, they ran out of steak, so part of the order couldn't even be made. Then, when the food finally came out, I ordered mashed potatoes and they gave me French fries instead. At this point, it feels like nobody is paying attention to the orders. I understand restaurants get busy, but this was beyond frustrating. Seat yourself establishments and they are quick to the table once you pick your spot. Our server was very friendly. I had the country fried steak breakfast. They use real cube steak and hand bread it. Top notch! Biscuits are good, French toast is legit. All around great place. Best breakfast I've had in Lubbock. Not as flashy as some places meaning the menu is more basic than a lot of "brunch" type places but I'd eat here over them any day. Today the 806 Burger Tour had lunch at the Rain Cafe on 50th. We split their Green Chili Cheese Burger and Fries. Let me say right at the outset that the Waitress and staff were as good as we've had in the 18+ months we've been doing this! Friendly, polite and helpful. They actually cut the burger in two and served two plates with a generous portion of fries! The atmosphere was very welcoming as well. It almost smelled like rain in the dinning room! We will go back to enjoy other options on the menu as they serve breakfast all day and I love breakfast as much as I like a good Cheeseburger! The fries were really good. Crisp on the outside and hot and tasty on the inside. They had a unique seasoning on them that I really enjoyed. As I stated earlier, we shared the Green Chili Cheese Burger. This has pretty much become my go to burger and I blame one JT who 25 years ago preached the gospel of the New Mexico Green Chili! The burger was really good as well. The single patty was charred well and very juicy, the veggies were as fresh as can be. A generous portion of green chili added a blast of flavor. It came with Swiss Cheese which was a little different but proved to be a very pleasant addition . We got the single patty burger and it was more than enough for us to share for lunch. Heartier appetites may need to add an appetizer. All in all Rain Cafe proved to be a terrific choice. We give the burger . read more

Such a cute hole in the wall! My friends and I try to gatekeep it. They're always busy on Sundays after church, but the waitresses are sweet and quick to check in with you. Their food is great! I looooveee their French toast. It's like candy. They have really really good sweet tea. Reccomend this place. read more

Waiting at the non existent host stand there was a dead cockroach plain in sight should've been my sign to leave then but when you have a fussy kid who is hungry you try and make it work Requested a high chair before we sat down as we have a two year old Once sat I asked three more times for a high chair after seeing a table sat after us that received a high chair and their drinks before we did even though we were sat first. Waitress was very persistent to get our food order in but it's difficult to look at a menu when your kid isn't in a high chair and you requested one three times at this point. Finally they tell us they don't have anymore high chairs. The waitress just kept ignoring the problem and trying to get us to order our food so we decided to leave. Management never approached us or was on the floor. I really wanted to try this place since it's local and I want to support but I cannot in good conscience recommend this place to anyone with the criminal level of service I was provided with today. And the cherry on top was how filthy all the servers looked all their uniforms were stained and dirty my servers shoes were supposed to be white but pretty much were black. read more

*UPDATE: The manager gave me a full refund. Assured me that she was in the process of fixing the situation and making sure their food standards are top quality. My boyfriend and I ordered a few things. All of which were very disappointing. I ordered a Belgian waffle and got what looked like off brand frozen waffles. My bacon was so burned it hurt my teeth. My boyfriend's biscuits and gravy had no flavor. The hash browns were a bit raw and also had no flavor and the toast, well it was bread with the smallest amount of butter possible. Upped their own tip. I had horrible service and I left $1 as a tip. I ordered the Crusted French Toast (no fruit), BLT, Iced Tea, and a cup of water. According to DoorDash, it would all come up to (without taxes) 24.07, but using the menu on Yelp it would be 22.27. Anywhom, My bank charges me 33.06. How do you get 33.06 from 24.06 or 22.27 when you leave a $1 because of BAD service?!?? Lubbock taxes are 8.25. For 22.27, it would be 24.11 (tip not included but state taxes calculated.) For 24.06, it would be 26.04 (Again, tip not included but state taxes calculated.) To paraphrase: I was up charged at this location and was not notified beforehand that they would do this. This place is a scam. I was up charged around ~$5-$9. While I don't have my receipt, I'm sure one can ring this up in the cafe and see that this is an accounting mistake. However, I do have my bank statement that says what I was charged. read more

Reviews were promising, but I should have know Something was up when I saw the front door missing the glass letting in all the insects. Upon receiving my meal to my surprise there was a LIVE fly in my eggs... Sent it back to the kitchen and was promised a new plate. I could just hear all the staff laughing it up! Wow... I wish I knew of this place when I lived in Lubbock! Now it's just become my "have to go every time I visit" place. I'll just highlight the french toast which seems everyone has mentioned in their reviews. You really can't over-hype it. It's amazing... if its your first time here, get it! Food (5/5): Ughhhh the french toast is AMAZING! Get it!!! I also have to compliment their egg cooking skills. I got mine over-easy and they were cooked perfectly. The breakfast platter I ordered also came with sausage and fruit, both of which were just fair. But that's ok, the french toast is the real star! Drink (5/5): Pretty basic options. Their coffee is pretty good and they have juice, soda, water, etc. Don't think they serve alcohol, though I could be wrong. Service (4/5): I'll start by saying everyone is super friendly and welcoming! With that said... they really need to work on their wait list system. When we go there there were about 10 people just standing around with no-one at the booth. When she finally comes over I have to flag her down to ask her how the wait-list works and she has me go find a piece of paper on the little desk to write my name down on.
