Are here for the first time with my daughter. I had the patty melt with fried green beans. The sandwich was really good and they made it correctly (with rye). I started with the house coffee which was perfectly served in a warm mug and perfect temperature. Had to try the hand breaded Chicken Fried Steak with fresh house made gravy, and topped with two perfectly cooked over medium eggs and hash-brown potatoes. My bride ordered the western omelette with hash-browns. What was a pleasant surprise was that a pancake was included with both entrees. I remember what I ate this time, the Cast Iron Club and a cup of the green chili stew, the wife had a chicken fry. The wife and I thought the service, food and atmosphere were all excellent. There's more pie in this place than you can shake a stick at, all kinds too. My nose would get to twitching and sure nuff, here would come another piece of pie by our table headed to another table. Texas size menu with all the breakfast trimmings! Our group had BLT's, pancakes, bacon, green chili omelette, sweet tea, and banana pudding!! Our server Audriana was as sweet as pie, patient, knowledgeable, attentive, and funny!! We enjoyed our brunch and will definitely be back!! Our first visit to the Cast Iron Grill did not disappoint. From a comfy, casual atmosphere that felt plenty spacious despite being quite crowded at the lunch rush on a a Friday, to our smiling and gracious waitress, Heather. After ordering, when we inquired about her recommendation for pie, Heather was quick to fill us in on todays choices and also let us know that many people order their pie at the beginning of the meal to ensure they don't sell out before getting any. We did just that! Our chicken-fried steaks were served quickly and were delicious; crispy with cream gravy. I also tried the fried green beans as one of my sides & they were wonderful! The Texas Cream pie was a homemade masterpiece. We will definitely be back here the next time we're in Lubbock. Maybe we'll try their burgers next because those looked good too. Ate here for breakfast today. Have heard good things about the Cast Iron Grill but just never ventured off to that part of town. BreaKfast was AMAZING. My wife had two egg breakfast with sausage and potatoes. She is not normally a big eater but she cleaned her plate today. I had the chicken fried steak with eggs and potatoes. Without a doubt one of the BEST chicken fried steaks I have ever eaten. It was oh so tasty and fork tender. Service was wonderful. My coffee cup stayed filled. Also had the pleasure of meeting Teresa, the owner, on this visit. She was an absolute delight to get to meet and visit with. We picked this place based on great reviews and we were blown away! As soon as we got there the parking lot was filled but we were able to get one of the last open tables, before we left the line was out the door! We noticed everyone....I MEAN EVERYONE has a slice of pie on their table even before their meals came out. We asked the table next to us and they said if you don't order the pie as soon as you sit down, they'll run out! We ordered 2 of the best pies I've ever had (Texas Surprise & Coconut Cream). The food was giant and the pies were to die for. There isn't a single thing I would change about this place, thank goodness I don't live closer cause I'd have their pie every day! Food was good. If I was rating off food alone I would probably go higher. Unfortunately it's the full experience. The good: the flavor of the food was pretty good. My chicken fried steak was a little chewy but it happens. The kids chicken strips were large and my wife enjoyed her philly cheese steak. The bad: The appetizer came out about 90 seconds before our food so we never got to enjoy it. There was fried okra in the queso and in my kids gravy. Just looks like a lack of care. The ugly: the service was bad. Bad bad. We waited 5 minutes before even being greeted when we were at hostess stand. Drinks were placed quick but took another 10 minutes to get our food ordered. Once food was delivered (which was surprisingly quick) we never saw our waitress again. I ran out of drink halfway through lunch. We finished and waited because we were going to get dessert. After my wife watched our waitress stand at the food window talking to the manager/owner or whoever she was, we decided to just skip dessert. Our kids were disappointed. When she stopped and said she'd bring our check it was another 5-7 minute wait to get it. The entire lunch took about an hour or more and from Placing our food to finishing eating was about 15-20 minutes. The other 40 was waiting for our waitress. Overall we were excited to stop here because of reviews and were extremely disappointed. Try your luck, maybe we just got a server who was ready to go home or thought we wouldn't tip well because we have young kids. Either way there is a 0.0% we'll be back. read more

We had ribs that fell off the bone. The green chile chicken fried steak was worth writing home about. The sawdust pie was so decadent that I will dream about it for years. This needs to be a stop on your tour of Lubbock. Excellent food, staff, and place...plus, it's next door to the Buddy Holly museum.
