I don't understand how this score isn't 5.0. When I read through the hits of bad reviews all I can see and hear is entitlement. Low energy people playing low energy games! About Doc's and my personal experience. I've been going here at least once a week for the past 6 weeks or so and I can't say enough about how good the food is here. I'm always chatting it up with staff and the owners as much as I can, they're always so busy! This family and their extended family "staff" really do knock it out of the park in Lubbock! So many places have gone downhill post the COVID era but these folks have leveled up! It was my first time going to docs cafeteria. I invited a friend to meet me there at 11 AM because that is what they have posted is they're opening time at 11 five still not so I called and she said yes we will be open in a few minutes I see y'all standing out there. When she did come to the door at 11:10, she unlocked the door and I said good morning. The employee was very rude and then we went in and you could not see the food because there was condensation all over the glass so at this point, we just walked out and went to cast-iron Grill, which is always well well worth it! I will never go back to docs cafeteria! First of all, if you run a business open on time second of all, don't be rude to the customers. I could go on and on, but I won't. The Good: 1. Customer service was great! Everyone was pleasant and I felt very welcomed. 2. My favorite side of the six was the green beans. 3. The price point is inexpensive. The Bad: 1. Majority of the sides were extremely bland. 2. The Mac and cheese was overcooked and didn't really have a cheesy taste. 3. The greens were cold--not like warm, but actually cold. 4. The fish was the most disappointing because it didn't even look like what I have seen in other customer's pictures. The fish was very salty and was cooked too fast, yet had a little of burnt look on the exterior. It had multiple bones even though I specifically asked for fillet. The Ugly: 1. When I walked into the establishment and looked at the food in the cafeteria's line, most of the food did not look appetizing. I don't believe anything was fresh, but I wanted to support a locally owned business. 2. There were customers eating in the restaurant, but ironically they left so much food on their plate as if they didn't quite enjoy their meal. I only write reviews of either the best or the worst restaurants in which I have eaten. My folks have been in Louisiana for many generations. We love to grow, cook and eat southern cuisine (AKA Soul food). I was shocked to discover that "Doc's Cafeteria" in Lubbock, TX serves food as if it came right off my grandmother's, my mother's or my wife's dinner table! They offer a big variety of meats, vegetables and deserts. The tea is southern sweet! Their portions are huge for a price that will satisfy anyone. Second visit to Docs don't know when they reopened here but I sure am glad they did. I visited here the fri before Christmas with the family and food was great. Today's visit I was looking for some healthy quick food. Ok maybe sorta healthy b ut great tasting. Lunch specials 11-2 Thurs - Sun choice of meat w 2 sides drink and bread for $9 beats all the fast food out there. If your really hungry they have their 1stop Buffett your choice of meat w up to 5 sides, bread & dessert for $13. As a Mississippian native and Houston resident, I love some good soul food, especially at a reasonable price!!! This place is the definition of a home cooked meal! What I also appreciate is how they offer a variety of food. There was so much to choose from. And they offer different combo options so you can get as many sides as you want! The staff were very kind. I believe they were all family. You can tell that the community really enjoys this food by the way people were constantly coming in. I got their chicken dressing that came with a chicken thigh. For my sides, I got their collard greens, glazed carrots (so good!), mac & cheese and an extra side of broccoli rice & cheese casserole. It came with cornbread, a dessert, and ice cream. You can feed a family with that. And it was all under $20. Houston would never! The quality of the food was delicious!!! He approached a lady, (who identified herself as the owner) and asked if he could please have another meat selection because he didn't like his. And she literally yelled "I'm not giving you something else just because you didn't like what you got!" My husband said okay and sat down. I then approached asking why she couldn't just give him another meat, she then began to yell at me in front of the whole restaurant telling me that she's been in business over 10 years and that she's not worried about 1 person who did not like her food. VERY TACKY!! I then proceeded to leave the restaurant and all of the other employees behind the counter then began to yell "bye bitch" as I walked out the door. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL!
