Ate breakfast here with my wife yesterday. We were told by our waitress that the kitchen was backed up so she had to wait to take our order. We decided to wait and boy was that a mistake... At the 15 minute mark we finally ordered a breakfast burrito and the rachael special. We finally got our food after being there for a grand total of 1 hour and 20 minutes. The drive thru takes priority here. I do NOT recommend sit down. The kitchen can not keep up with orders for sit down with drive thru open. Food was fine. Nothing special to bring us back. The worst service ever. Ordered 4 burritos and only got one right and was one short. When I called to inform them this was wrong and I was one short I was told the only way to fix it was to bring everything back and when I told them I was on the other side of town at covenant hospital I was told I still needed to come back to fix it. I just wanted to credit back my card for the one I was missing and still was told I needed to bring everything back. So I guess they really don't care about customer service. First time here since it was rebranded from 82nd st Cafe. Came for breakfast with family. My daughter had one fav breakfast entree she liked and enjoyed today. I however ordered the migas. They were a disaster, no spice or seasoning. Just bland corn tortillas scrambled with eggs. Maybe I'm spoiled because I usually fix them at home with onion, garlic, a little tomato and salt and pepper. The refried beans came from a can or rehydrated and were actually the better part of the plate. My wife had eggs, sausage and potatoes. I saw that the sausage was a prefab patty. I suspect that they don't really fix much from scratch. At any rate she wasn't impressed. I think they try to make up for lack of skill by asking if you want their ranchera sauce on everything. I hate ranchera sauce. Next on to cleanliness. Our booth had food residue from a previous diner. The server grabbed a cloth, wiped the seat and then wiped the table with the same cloth, spreading residue from the seat to the table. The server was pleasant and attentive. Coffee was good. That's not enough to get a return trip from us however. read more

I've never had a remotely bad thing at this place. It does take a while to get your food so expect to set some time aside for that but it's so worth it, and the waitresses are extremely polite and attentive. I love this spot! read more

I really used to like this place however over the course of the year it has deteriorated to the point of I will not return. The staff mainly the cooks are the culprit here. First time I've ran across this. There is no consistency whatsoever. Now someone has changed the recipe for the beans. They have gone from great beans to beans I can't eat due to this enormous amount of chili powder. I don't get it. The burritos will vary in size to varying quality of the ingredients. Again the cook. I wanted to like this place. I always prefer eating at the small local diners. I read the reviews prior to eating here and realized that this is going to be interesting. I ordered the biscuits and gravy with bacon cuz the server said the biscuits are scratch made. These were the flattest, crumbliest biscuits I've ever seen...they just fell apart and the gravy was overly peppered. The coffee was some of the worst I've tasted. Ordered onion rings, they didn't have onions. Ordered a BLT there was very little bacon and it didn't taste right. Service was not great, we had to sit for quite a while without being waited on, then when we did get waited on and needed refills it took the waitress forever to get them. The girl who was checking us out at the end had a terrible attitude and made a sly comment as we were walking out. I addressed it with the owner who wouldn't even make eye contact as I way trying to talk to him. Not to mention we were charged $4.27 for a to go drink. I rate this restaurant as one of the lowest in Lubbock as far as service is concerned. We have been there three times and each time has resulted in the same type of service. Today, we were seated and given our drinks and after 40 minutes, the waitress had not taken our order. I went to the counter and told the employee that we no be longer want to be served. Actually didn't visit the restaurant but I had takeout which was bought by a friend of mine. This place shouldn't call their food mexican food but **Tex Mex. It's sorta misleading but living in Lubbock, TX it seems many restaurants are like that. Even for Tex Mex the food was less than mediocre. The beans and rice were pretty bland and the enchiladas were not only bland but had a rubbery texture to them. The only thing that had any flavor was the queso which just had too much going on to the point where it tasted like BBQ Fritos? I'm doing three stars because the price was fair for what you got. If you're gonna buy local mexican food I suggest somewhere like Taqueira Autlan. May be a dollar more but it's definitely worth it. read more

I was driving by Rachel's about 9AM on a Tuesday and decided to stop in for Breakfast. An older woman made her way to my table and took my order for coffee. When I asked for heavy cream, she seemed irritated and said they had half and half, which I told her would be fine. My coffee showed up and I placed my order for Chicken Fried Steak and eggs with a young woman. This same young woman came by 3 times to top off my coffee while I waited for my food. I politely thanked her each time. Eventually the older woman delivered my food in a rushed manner and took off. Probably because she seemed to be the only real waitress in the restaurant. I cut into the Chicken Fried Steak and quickly found it to be most probably a Sysco product. Delivered pre battered and frozen to save the restaurant prep time. The trouble is they taste exactly like they sound, without flavor. I ate it so that I would have something in my stomach. I wanted some Cholula or Tabasco sauce for my eggs, but the waitress never checked back with me, so I just skipped them and put a $20 bill under the edge of my plate and left. Lesson learned. Skip this place, we have several high-quality places for Breakfast in Lubbock, no need to waste your time here. read more

Got burgers and fries. They were horrible. It took forever to get our order. After placing my order they had me park around the other side. I had to bang on the door after several minutes of waiting. The burgers were tasteless and the fries smelled as if they had been fried in ancient bacon fat. They tasted even worse. Have reviewed Rachel's before for breakfast but now offering up a lunch review. Staff is extremely friendly and great to be around. Food was good as well as I had a bacon cheese burger with tots. Problem I have is it cost right at $16 for my meal. At first I thought I was double charged but when looking closer was charged $7.95 for a burger and then another $7.95 to add bacon and cheese (and apparently the tots). I was under the impression the burger order came with tots because when I ordered she asked if I wanted fries or tots, not if I wanted to add an order of fries or tots. The service was so friendly and timely. They were all extremely courteous. As far as the food goes, I ordered my favorite Huevos Rancheros. I loved it. It is one meal that I have never been thrilled with since I moved here, until now. I came with the refried beans and again, pretty much all the places in town they are pretty boring until now. Rachel's beans had great flavor. It also came with hash brown potatoes which could definitely use improvement which is why I gave a 4 instead of a 5. Needed a sit down breakfast stop before my husband and I hit the road back home! Looked on maps and this place popped up! It's printed an adorable color on the inside and out and I really appreciated all of the Americana decor inside! They also showed signs of support for local cheer teams which I always like to see in a community. We were immediately greeted upon entering and instructed to seat ourselves. We sat near the check out and I noticed that it was a really clean little spot- the entire restaurant! We were handed menus by a little boy and were then greeted by our waitress and asked for our drink orders! Drinks came back quick and a different waitress took our food order. I ordered the Migas and my husband ordered the huevos rancheros with sunny side up eggs! The migas came out a bit cold but the beans and hash browns were really hot and didn't need salt which I loved My husband also remarked that the eggs were super fresh! He also really like the pancakes! The service was quick for things like straws, hot sauce and to go cups even! A nice spot to have a quick breakfast at a reasonable price! Then choked down some very over cooked steak fingers in a dirty restaurant with no air conditioning. Paid the bill. Looked at the receipt. Realized I got double charged for the fries I didn't want.
