We were there when this DQ was built some 45-50 years ago. Grew up in that neighborhood. This was…read moreour "Hometown" DQ. I still remember sitting in those booths with our parents having Grilled Cheese sandwiches back in the 70's. But, over the last 4-5 decades, that location has really gotten nasty. The building, the fixtures, the interior, the parking lot, that place is just nasty. I even got out of my truck one day and walked around the back where the door is, where the deliveries are made, the grease bin is, NASTY. Cannot imagine how nasty it might be in the kitchen area that we do not have access to, can not see. But, I used to still stop by there every once in a while after I got back to Lubbock. Until the blow up with the Rude Manager many here has spoken about. One Friday afternoon I stayed at my Shop out in Wolfforth late to catch up on a few things before the weekend. Knowing this location was always busy on Fridays I called in an order to pick up on my way home. Called in a 4 piece Country Basket with an EXTRA GRAVY. Girl said they're busy, give them 20 minutes. Said good, I'm out in Wolfforth, it'll take me a bit to get there. Took my time closing up shop, took off. I got there probably 30 minutes after I called in my order. 12 cars in the Drive Thru. I parked and went inside. As I'm standing there waiting behind this older couple taking their ever loving f'ing time to place their order (C'mon People, you're in your 80's. Dairy Queen menu has NOT changed in 60 years, YOU'VE BEEN HERE BEFORE, you should know what you want by now!!!) I saw the Cook put a Country Basket Box up on the counter WITH MY EXTRA GRAVY on top of the box and put the ticket under the Gravy. Thought Good, timed it just right. 20 Minutes was actually 30-35 minutes. As that couple was still ordering, I watched the Kid working the Drive Thru walk over to that counter, Grab that Country Basket Box, look at the ticket, put the Ticket and the Gravy back on the shelf, and handed that Box out the window to someone going through the Drive Thru. I kind of thought Hmmmm. When I finally got to the register, Guy at Register looked back at Cook asking about my Order. Cook said it was right there. I told them that Kid at the window took it. That Kid DENIED IT. I looked at that Kid and asked, Are You Kidding ME?? I stood here and WATCHED YOU grab the Box, The Gravy, and the Ticket, look at the Ticket, put the Gravy and the Ticket back on the Counter, and hand that Box out the window. Now it was sitting at 40 Minutes since I ordered. I was hungry, tired, was tired of standing there, and wasn't going to put up with that. Manager tried to say it would be about 15 minutes to make another order since they were so busy. No apologies, even after I tried to point out what that Kid had done. How many people order a Country Basket WITH EXTRA GRAVY? That was my order sitting there, the ticket shows it was my order, and that Kid handed it out the window to someone who did not call their order in 45 minutes ago like I had done. F That. I walked out, have not been back since. I still stop by 7/11 every once in a while to get an Arizona Tea while out running errands. I look over at that Building and still see how disgusting that entire property is today. How it is still open amazes me. I will never step foot on that property ever again. Or, not until that Building is torn down and I walk across that Vacant Lot reminiscing back to the time when we walked across that Vacant Lot to get to the 7/11 that was where Scooters is now.

I just went to order a burger and fries to take home after work…read more I sat at the bar top to order to go, and I had a tall beer as I waited. The burger took 25 minutes. I figured thats why it was so dry. Because it was done very WELL. I asked to have it a little pink, not so DONE! Then she asked if I wanted all the vegetables....I guess that just meant the piece of lettuce, a tomato slice and two onion pieces. I told her I wanted mayo and ketchup only. I found like 3 packets of mustard, mayo, and ketchup in the bag! So, are we to not only pay & tip them, but we are to put our own burger together? The only thing good was the fries (although a little too salty)....and the very OVERCOOKED burger. No wonder irs a bar, you need to drink all that beer to wash down the DRY OVERCOOKED BURGER PATTY! NOT IMPRESSED. Its just a burger and a "show" kind of place. Twin Peaks has a much better burger than this place! Even Burger King has better burgers...save your money, don't go here unless you just need to boost your ego, (I mean, its your tip, for the view)...lol Dry burgers. Get rid of the cook!

There being about 20-25 people there, how was our meal prepared with no culinary attention to detail? For example: my wife ordered the chicken fried steak, mash potatoes and salad. Her steak was so "bland and lukewarm" that it literally removed all sensitivity of taste from our tongues..., no seasoning or flavor whatsoever. On our drive home that's all me talked about. Mash potatoes were likewise "lukewarm and bland"..., then factor in the gravy..., exactly the same. Her plate obviously sat at the window too long or perhaps her food was simply "sitting there" waiting for us to order it. Her salad: there was nothing "green" about it, it was "all the white stalks" of the lettuce, literally 4 olives, a sprinkle of shredded cheese, 3 half slices of tomatoes with "gigantic croutons (that was interesting)". My "blackened chicken salad"..., salad was the same as my wife's; double-dang because I love salads and being type 2 diabetic and having high blood pressure this would have been the perfect meal for me. HOWEVER; the chicken was the worst ever because it was saltier-than-a-1820's-sailor..., horrible..., and drier than a camel's hump in the Sahari. I never knew that a chicken breast could be abused like that on purpose. So, how does such a nice looking place sell someone "absolutely ridiculously horrible food".

I was back in Lubbock visiting my girlfriend after she had come to see me in Austin the last few times, and we were planning our weekend. I had previously taken her to The West Table to celebrate her graduation, and since we loved it, we knew we had to go back. Last time we went was an amazing experience. We had their arancini as our shared appetizer. She had their Roasted Beet Salad and the Grilled Rack of Lamb, while I had their Caesar and their Cast Iron Seared Duck Breast, which was amazing. We also enjoyed their specialty drinks. This time we arrived for our 7:00 reservation and were greeted and sat immediately. We both ordered a drink to start the night. I started with the Hibi-Jibi, a hibiscus and gin drink, while she had the Peach Ring Margarita. West Table is a farm-to-table scratch kitchen concept, so it's very important that you order all your food from appetizer to main course up front to give them time to craft it at the right pace. The West Table is at the floor level of the luxurious Pioneer Condos. It sits right across from their sister location, The Brewery LBK, and even serves their current brews on location. However, opting for their brews and not their cocktails is a mistake in my opinion because their specialty cocktails are truly one of a kind. The restaurant itself is beautiful. It feels like a ballroom and all the tables are well spaced out. In the back is the open kitchen where you can see all the chefs putting in hard work and mastering each meal. All around, there is great energy. We started with their Roasted Bone Marrow. I was worried about the idea of eating bone marrow since that was something I had never had before, but my girlfriend assured me it would be great. The bones were filled with an onion jam and lemon caper vinaigrette that were placed inside the bone. You could spread the jam and vinaigrette on their grilled bread, which was fantastic as well. It was purposely charred and really added to the jam's flavor profile. We then split their Caesar Salad, and it was a needed divider between our appetizer and entree. Their salad is a good portion for one person, and it was still satisfying being split for two. It was the perfect amount of salad. We got our next drinks ordered to go alongside our main entree. My girlfriend ordered their Fig Old Fashioned, while I got the "C" Monster, a celery-infused vodka drink with a name that sounds so stupid saying out loud that I almost changed my drink after saying it. Can I get the C Monster? WHAT A FOOL. The drink was really solid. The celery flavor was super noticeable, but in a good way. It balanced with the vodka quite nicely. For our main entrees, my girlfriend got their Salmon over Angel Hair pasta, and I got their Pork Chop over mashed potatoes and asparagus. The noodles with the salmon were strong with a very heavy Cajun kick, which complemented the crispy salmon piece, but my pork chop was the star of the show. They recommended it medium, so I got it medium, and it was delightful. Portions of the pork chop were nice and fatty, while others were lean and tender. I was a big fan of its flavor, and the sauce and mashed potatoes really added to it. Perfectly fluffy mashed potatoes. We closed the night with no dessert, but dessert drinks. My girlfriend got The Cold Fashioned (a mix between a smoked old fashioned and coffee liqueur), and I got the Buenas Noches, which mixes coffee liqueur, chocolate liqueur, and orange liqueur. Of all the "nice" restaurants in town, West Table stands alone. It has a price tag but still feels fair. Everything we had was top notch, and I still think they've made the best duck I've ever had. Their waitstaff is attentive and amazing and really sells the experience. At the end of the night, she was happy, I was happy, and West Table proved itself to be the LeBron of Lubbock restaurants. RIYL: Specialty cocktails that make you go "Ooo that's interesting" and some of the best New American in West Texas
