The service was rude told me to sit in my car when it's a 103 outside to wait for my order would barely let me get a water

Really good. Wasn't expecting it to be so good. Clean and modern. Very close to our room.

Ordered two rolls an hour and a half before closing and came to pick them up and was told by the host to go to the bar to pick up the order. I was seen by three employees who didn't even acknowledge or assist me after standing there for three minutes. Had to go up and ask someone that wasn't in the front of the restaurant for assistance. Never coming back. read more

Summary Review: Bad service at this location. Special Note: Even the hours posted on their front door are often incorrect. The first 3 times I attempted to eat here, they were closed for one reason or another. Full Monty: After three experiences here, I feel prepared to rate this Hayashi location. Sushi Bar Chefs - 5 stars Sushi - 3 stars Waitstaff/Servers - 2 stars Sushi is acceptable for Lubbock (or any landlocked area), however the service from the waitstaff is abysmal. My server today had so much perfume on, that it permeated the air and I could almost taste it. On my visit 5-27-22 (12:41pm). I asked to sit at the sushi bar. I sat one down from the end (on the right - Bar 1 B). The server took my order and came back promptly with a water and a napkin wrapped fork. Being that I sat at the sushi bar, I would have expected to also be given chopsticks. Side note, I did not use the fork. About 5 min after ordering, I noticed that the sushi chef had just made my order. The chef looked at me and nodded to let me know that it was my order and I had permission to take the 2 plates. BTW, my server was nowhere near. Immediately after getting my food, my server poured my hot sake and proceeded to push it across the large counter....to me. She wanted me to lean across the empty char and lean forward to maximum stretch capacity to get my hot sake? Um excuse me, are you to lazy to bring it to me? The young female server did not want to walk around the bar area to hand me the sake. After getting my sake, she rushed off into the kitchen without asking if I needed anything. 5-7 min later she appeared on the other side of the restaurant and I was able to catch her eye to ask for chopsticks, a napkin and a soy sauce dish. She located those items and...yes she pushed it across the bar again....stretch #2 for me. I typically tip 20-25% for service, on this visit it pained me to leave 15%. read more

Horrible management and customer policies! There were very few people in the restaurant and multiple open booths yet the management refused to allow us to sit in a booth because it was not the correct "server rotation". So we left and will never return again.! read more

Excellent Japanese food, very fresh, cooked from scratch, great servers - very welcoming! Very clean, from the tables to the floors to the bathrooms. Highly recommended! read more

I have to give this a 2 star because of the service. I've eaten here so many times over the last few years and the overall average review is this; I can expect decent whatever-I-order... and I can expect a water/waitress that could practically let grass grow beneath their feet. IF I could review the kitchen and sushi chefs differently, I would. But the FOH staff sets the mood. I continue to eat here because their placement is pretty brilliant- it's in a convenient place, close to my work, close to where I live, and on the way to the places i like to spend my time. We had a party of four. We ordered 6 sushi rolls accumulatively- one of which was incorrect when it came out, another was missing entirely. After waiting 45 minutes. Maybe it's something we wouldn't have particularly noticed while reconnecting in conversation over drinks, but we had plans to be elsewhere at a certain time... and we should have had AMPLE time to make the other reservation. One of my friends was going to order another roll during the meal and by the time we got our food and they had misheard her order and brought out the wrong one, well, at that point you just have to leave a little hungry if you want to continue on to our other plans. I ordered a flavored sake, cold, and it came out hot. I was "reassured" that it was "room temp"- but I've had the same hands attached to my body long enough to know that 1. IT WAS WARMER THAN ROOM TEMP and 2, It's not what I asked for- AND it wasn't offered to be remedied when I mentioned it was incorrect, instead I was told it wasn't the temperature I claimed it to be...as if I (and everyone else at the table) was hallucinating. Cool. Thanks. Color me "meh". If you're nearby and wanting sushi, go for it. But don't expect much by way of service. read more

I live in Houston and you would know the night I was in town the Red Raiders were playing the University of Houston out of Town. I graduated from TTU in 2017 and love all Tech sports. I was able to watch the basketball game and have 2 dirty Martini's a Sushi Roll and the Regular Sushi option. All was fresh and on point. I am always impressed by the local vibes in Lubbock. read more

The last time I came here, I waited literally for 30 minutes just to get someone to take my order. The food is okay, but the staff is lazy, disrespectful, and slow as hell. I won't be coming here again. Management needs to do their job and read the reviews of this place. The customers are telling you what's wrong but they never do anything. read more

To be this far from the ocean and get solid sushi is special. The people here are full of positive energy and food hits the spot. It's an elevated environment without feeling fancy. Recommend! read more

The sushi here is really good! I don't particularly eat raw fish, but even their cooked sushi is really good. I've been here a couple of times with friends and it always hits. I would recommend getting the salmon skin sushi; the bento box is also really good! read more

I was attending a training session in Lubbock and a high-ranking city official recommended Hayashi as his favorite Asian restaurant in town. Disclaimer: I am a bit of a food snob, so it is really hard to impress me. The food was certainly good, but not mind-blowing. The menu pretty much had the standard selection of rolls, appetizers, and all the other dishes one would expect. I had an Ahi tower and shrimp shumai. I found it odd that the tower was served in a bowl rather than a large plate, which made it difficult to mix up before eating. Also, the shumai were served with a pile of lettuce, which was strange. I'm all for creative presentation, but neither of the above added anything to their respective dishes. It all tasted good though! The area this place shined brightest was the service. I was in and out quickly. My waitress, Carissa, was top notch... friendly and attentive. Not a life-changing experience, but I would not steer anyone away from here. Lubbock is not exactly known as a sushi Mecca, so... read more

Hayashi Midtown - Great service at the bar - Japanese Near Me - Lubbock, Texas

They always cook my hibachi steak perfectly and the veggies are well cooked, flavorful while still having some bite to them. The ginger and mustard sauces are a must. And their service is always attentive and kind. I always feel welcome there. I will be a repeat customer and may explore the menu a little more, everything I have had is so good from the hibachi steak to the clear mushroom soup which I could eat a gallon of probably, and the salad which was crisp and flavorful. Plus the to go containers can be washed and reused. So that's always a plus as well. And the portions are great I personally tend to need to take the rest Togo, additionally it heats up well especially if you have a wok and a splash of water at the bottom to help keep the moisture in the rice. This would be a great place for a date or celebration of some kind! read more

Bento Boxes are the best Here. They do still serve Hibachi for those who like it but without the table theatrics but it's still just as delicious. But alas my go to meal is the bento boxes. Sushi selection here is amazing too. All around great food and ambiance. Service is always friendly and they are very attentive. read more

This place is pretty average; nothing is that good, but nothing is that bad either. The service is fast and the servers are nice, but the plates were dirty. The food was ok but nothing that special. We got the poke and the soft shell crab for our appetizer. The poke was good, it had a nice dressing and it was fresh and light. It doesn't come with rice though, but if you ask for some, they'll give it to you. The soft shell crab was ok. I felt like there was a bit too much breading and the crab felt too heavy when combined with the dipping sauce, a sort of spicy mayo. I would have preferred a sauce with a bit of acidity to cut through the greasiness of the crab. For my entree, I got the Bento Box A which comes with 4 pieces of sashimi (or 6 pieces of sushi), shrimp shumai, fried rice (or steamed rice), salmon teriyaki, and shrimp and vegetable tempura. I did not enjoy the sashimi very much, except for the salmon sashimi. The salmon sashimi was very fatty and rich. The other sashimi were pretty tough and a bit chewy. The shrimp shumai was good. It isn't steamed like regular shumai, it is fried which makes it oily, however, there is a sauce that comes with it with a touch of acidity which helps balance out the oilyness. The fried rice had no flavor but that was ok because it let the flavor of the salmon teriyaki shine. The salmon teriyaki had a really nice flavor but the salmon itself was dry. The shrimp and vegetable tempura was pretty good, it was my favorite part of the bento box. So while I wasn't particularly thrilled about my visit, I thought it was pretty average and I wouldn't be against trying it again. If I were to eat here again, I would probably get a tempura dinner or a bunch of salmon sashimi. read more

Worst Customer Service!! Walked in and nobody to seat you, servers will ignore you and had to ask for a menu. Server takes over 10 mins to even care to ask if you want a glass of water or much less ask to take your order. Either they are horrible at their jobs or Racist of serving Latinos because they do serve Caucasian must faster than me. Either train your staff or clean house!! read more

I think the location by HEB is better. This one had too much going on. But otherwise the sushi is great!

Very yummy. Pretty pricy but it's the best sushi place in Lubbock . Great workers and even better environment.

The salmon roll wasn't salmon. Not bad, but clearly not salmon (I've caught enough to know; flesh was grey, not pink/red-orange). Salads were swimming in enough dressing for 3x the greens. Lettuce was fresh and crisp, but drowning. Only one fork for salad and main entree. Disposable bamboo chopsticks. The dinners were a saving grace. Both the hibachi teriyaki beef and hibachi steak plates were very good. Beef was tender and flavorful and veggies were firm but not crunchy. Very good. Might've been a one and done for us but the main plates were good enough to repeat. Update: I discovered the morning after my visit my credit card was missing. I returned to Hayashi Midtown (last place I used the card) 15 minutes prior to them opening for lunch. They let me in and returned my card which they'd secured overnight in their cash register. The card had not been used. Extremely pleased with their collective integrity. Plus a star. read more

I placed an ordered today and everything was so disgusting I had lost my appetite... I had ordered the edamame, tofu, and fried rice. The edamame and broccoli that came with the tofu was unseasoned and tasted like tap water. The tofu was slimy and undercooked causing me to gag all while the rice was overcooked. I have been here in the past, but it was never this bad. I will never step foot in here again... read more

I love the food at Hayashi, especially their sushi and sashimi. Their Lychee Sake is to die for. For this particular night though, I must say, really am disappointed at the service. Our server was nice but got all our orders wrong. Had to send our ramen back coz it was the wrong one. When it came back, the Miso ramen was bland and did not even fill the bowl. Ordered a tall sake, and got the short one. Normally, a restaurant would give discounts for getting orders wrong and making customers wait. Not this one. Such a shame coz I really like this place. Not sure if I'm coming back. read more

The food is great. However the hours are not correct on this website. They close at 10:00 PM.

Terrible. Teriyaki chicken was so DRY like STRAW!!!! As a Japanese restaurant, this is a very basic cuisine, but they CAN'T HAVE IT DONE WELL. Also, the sushi WAS NOT FRESH at all, and the rice WAS NOT seasoned rice as they described on the menu. I WILL NEVER COME BACK AGAIN. read more

Pricing was great during lunch hour. 3 rolls for ~$13. Got chicken fried rice. While the rolls were not bad, they were edible at best. Chicken fried rice was decent. For context I am the least pickiest person and will eat just about everything. Sweet tea was great. Ambiance was good and place was clean. However, as soon as we finished eating, all 3 of us had our stomachs aching immediately after and had us sprinting to the restroom when we got home. I also had a long white hair that I took out of my mouth while chewing on the food. That grossed me out. Nevertheless, very nice employees and were quick to attend and check in on us. read more

Scallops were cold so actually didn't try the steak or eel sushi. Beef egg roll had no beef.

Portions are rather small for the price (this was hibachi steak with fried rice and soup - no salad) for $15.67. I've never tried anything else here, but this is fairly tasty. Soup is "meh" on flavor, as expected with broth. My biggest word of caution? Do not pay with cash for a carry out order. Today I went in and handed the bar staff a $20 for this. I received $4 back. I LOATHE when restaurants provide themselves their own tips!! I'm a good tipper - don't assume I'm not. So I said, "Hey - can I get my change?" Guy behind bar: "We don't carry change." Me: "You don't 'carry change'??!??" So he just glares at me, opens the register, and throws me another dollar bill. Niiiice. Real classy, a-hole. So, in summary: Food = 3.5 stars. Price = 3 stars. Wait staff = 0 stars. read more

Hayashi Midtown - Hibachi Steak, fried rice and soup, no salad - $15.67. Rude wait staff - no charge. - Japanese Near Me - Lubbock, Texas

Meh. 3 stars because the service, while not competent, at least tried and the food was edible. The food was very underwhelming. Tempura appetizer came out hot and crisp but tough. The sushi wasn't even rolled together but was more like a taco. It made it hard to eat. And the sushi was pretty flavorless. I will not be back of my own accord. read more

We came in from out of town to grab Japanese food for my husband's birthday. Food was delightful, portions were enormous, and the restaurant was clean! We will definitely be back. read more

Came here for lunch yesterday and ordered off the lunch specials menu. I got the combo sushi which was California roll plus a roll of your choice. I decided to get the Spicy Tuna Roll. For an appetizer, my friend and I ordered the shrimp shumai (steamed dumplings). Our food came out in 10-12 minutes. Everything was good, but not the best sushi or dumplings I've ever had. These rolls were pretty average compared to some of the other ones I've tried in Lubbock. However, if you do come here, make sure to ask for eel sauce! It's the best thing to dip your sushi into! Probably won't come back here for sushi unless I do the two for $22 deal and get the more gourmet style sushi rolls. I've heard the West Texas roll is pretty good. read more
